Good Afternoon!
PREK1 friends came to the board where we worked with rhyming words. Each child was given one word and they had to share a rhyming word. We wrote the word on the board and repeated the rhyming word pair.
K.RF.3.1: Identify and produce rhyming words.
This morning, the kids got to explore the gooey results of their mixing experiment from earlier this week. We kept it in the fridge to find out what the chia seeds would do as they set up. They created a gel which added a stretchy, sticky squishy element to the concoction. Everyone was surprised that they were playing with the same substance they had made, which was much more of a liquid before.
We added a loose parts activity to the round table this morning allowing kids to explore new and different ways they could use shapes. We also added color components which encouraged sorting, pattern making and color matching. They had lots of ideas. They found that squares could build a road, rectangles could make a bridge. One friend found that a combination of them could build a “comfy jail”. Kids are always thinking outside of every box!
Outside, our kids have been enjoying the log area, a naturalized space that allows kids to build and imagine with logs, sticks and natural materials. They wanted to pick leaves to make a stew in their “fort”. Since we can’t have them picking the landscaping bushes, I did a little pruning in the area to open up more play space, which gave us a bunch of leaves for the stew. The kids got to learn about the phrase “two birds one stone”
.
