Good Afternoon!
We kicked off the week by using one of our favorite books called ‘Save It’ to help us sign in. Using the cover to assist us, children signed in under who they thought the main character would be.
Later on in PREK1 group, we read ‘Save It’. We talked about three important things that you need to create a book or story: characters, setting, and events. Each day this week, we’ll read a different book for group and add these three things to our chart after we read the book. Children to quick to start conversing about the characters and the order of events that took place in the book. One friend even added, “There can be more than one setting in a book!”.
K.RL.2.3: Identify important elements of the text (e.g. characters, settings, or events)
Today we practiced sorting and counting at our welcome activity. Younger kids sorted their buttons by color and then tried counting a few of their sorted buttons. Older friends sorted and then searched for the number they got in the number cards. Some kids placed a number card next to each of their groups of sorted buttons to represent how many they had in the group.
In the art center, several kids became interested in one of our drawing books. The books showed a variety of ways the kids could used their hands to make drawings. Many of the kids worked were very motivated to reproduce every detail of the pictures displayed in the book. This interest develops skills in the area of fine motor and attention to detail. At the easel, one friend was interested in using the paint to create patterns. It’s fun to see math skills merged into artwork!
