Good Afternoon!

We talked about days of the week for our PREK1 sign in activity. Children came up to the board where we filled in the day of the week that will be “tomorrow”. We talked about the terms yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Later on in group, we read ‘The Apple Pie Tree’. The author shared what happens to apple trees in each season. We also talked about how there are specific steps that we must follow before placing a pie into the oven!

K.M.2: Understand concepts of time, including: morning, afternoon, evening, today, yesterday, tomorrow, day, week, month, and year. Understand that clocks and calendars are tools that measure time.

This morning we explored the pegboard with begs and rubber bands.  As kids worked, several became interested in the difference between a square and a rectangle.  With the pegs and boles it made it easy to see.  We counted the begs or holes along each side of our shape.  If they were all the same, it was a square.  If there were two different numbers on the parallel sides, it was a rectangle.  Other friends had a great time working together on an imaginative project.  Hannah and Milo enjoyed working together to make a “trampoline”.

At the art center three friends began a child lead collaborative art project all by themselves.  They were all making rainbow butterflies.  They talked about how to make them as they went so they could all make the same thing!

PREK2:  We read the book “Cows Can’t Fly”.  As we read, we talked about what things in the book were fictional and couldn’t really happen, and what things were non-fiction and could really happen.  We sorted it all out on the board at the end of the story.
