Happy Friday!

We ended our week with our PREK1 sign in by looking at a pie to help us solve a subtraction equation. Children identified the pieces of the pie that had been eaten as well as the leftover pieces. Once they solved the problem, children identified the number 7 from the options available.

K.CA.1-2: Solve real-world problems, objects, or drawings that involve addition and subtraction within 10. Demonstrate the equation (e.g 5=3+2 and 5=4+1).

This morning we offered a loose parts peg board activity for all those kids interested in tools, hardware and fitting things together.  Kids chose from the options that best fit them developmentally.  Younger kids added golf tees to the peg board, while older kids figured out how to push a bolt from the bottom to attach a door knob to the board.  Some friends got imaginative using magnets to make screwdrivers, drills and even a telescope!  This activity is designed to practiced fine motor skills and creative problem solving using an interest that kids in this classroom have expressed.
