Good afternoon!

In the art center we created snow paintings using round sponges to add to our classroom.  Our kids are creative, so their snow pictures varied.  Some wanted to make snowflakes, others used the sponge to draw the snow blowing in the wind while others made snowmen, mountains and snow covered “boulders”.  Open ended art projects with only a loose idea about how to start, allows for free thinking and creativity! When kids make artwork authentically, using their own ideas and their own exploration, deep learning can happen!  Also, if kids want to make more than one piece of artwork, we encourage that.  Usually the second and third images are the ones where kids have gotten a feel for materials and are able to formulate creative exploratory ideas.  When kids make one image and are told to stop, they often skip the part where the magic happens!

PREK2:  Today we read “Bears on Chairs”.  We talked about how the bears in the story showed kindness by sharing their chairs so everyone would be included.  After the story, we picked a card from the basket.  Each card had one kind thing we could do in our classroom written on it.  Our teacher read our card and then we talked about why it was kind.
