Good Afternoon!
PREK1 kiddos came to the sign in board where we working with rhyming words. A snowman helped us match rhyming words using items from the snowman himself!
Each child picked a word from a tray and had to match it to something on the snowman. For example, Arthur picked the word ‘south’ and as we went through the makeup of the snowman, Arthur was able to identify ‘mouth’ as the rhyming word match to ‘south’! He taped his word next to its match and then wrote his name.
We offered a special project for older friends today. Since we have noticed a lot of interest in maps, we created a “make your own world map out of play dough” project. First, kids made the oceans out of blue playdough before they rolled out their green playdough and cut out the continents. They studied a world map and arranged their continents on their own. We talked about the name of each continent. As friends asked questions, we learned that we live on the North American continent, that Egypt is on the African Continent, India is on the Asian continent, our friend Milo is on the South American continent right now, Antarctica is not really long and skinny because the world is really round not flat and that a Mom once saw koalas in Australia!
PREK2: During our older kids map project this morning, there was a lot of talk about Antarctica. At group, we read “Ten Animals in Antarctica”. After the story, we tried to remember one animal that the book talked about.
