Good Afternoon!
Our PREK1 group came to the sign in board where they completed a complex AABBCC pattern using shapes! Not only did we dive further into patterns, how to identify them as well as creating them but this also allowed us to work on shapes and identifying varying characteristics of each.
K.CA.5: Create, extend, and give an appropriate rule of simple repeating and growing patterns with numbers and shapes.
In the reading area this morning, we read a book about adjectives called “Hairy Scary Ordinary”. It launched into a discussion about descriptive words. Kids enjoyed thinking of descriptive words like “Red” or “Big” and sharing them with the group. One older friend was able to tell the group that an adjective is a word that describes something and went on to give examples. What an impressive understanding of grammar for such a young child!
Several kids explored literacy at the art center though writing and sounding letters. Everyone worked at their own level and their own pace as each child followed their own interest in writing.
In other parts of the classroom, kids were engaged in sensory exploration paired with imaginative play. Materials were open ended so kids could use their imagination to explore through play. Kids practiced social emotional development, fine motor, as well as higher thinking that takes place during imaginative play schemas.
Even though it was chilly out this morning, children were excited to get some fresh air! We chose to get out the hoop with the balls which lead into children diving full force into their gross motor skills—a whole lot of throwing, catching, and kicking was happening in the backyard! ![]()
