Good afternoon!
We kicked off our week by talking about opposites in PREK1 group. Children chose a card from the bottom of the board. We read the card aloud and matched it to the matching opposite word. A few friends used their knowledge of letter sounds to find their matching word. For example, Arthur’s card read ‘big’ so he searched for the word ‘small’. He knew the sound that an ‘s’ makes so he searched for the word ‘small’.
K.RV.2.2: Identify and sort pictures of objects into categories (e.g. colors, shapes, and opposites).
One of our kids was interested in making a “boat that could really float” this morning. We offered some tin foil to try some different shapes to test in a pool of water. Other kids joined and tried making boats too. We talked about trial and error, which is a great way to test ideas and improve upon them with what we have learned. Projects like this build higher thinking skills like executive planning and creative problem solving.
Younger friends were not quite ready to make boats, but were interested in the tin foil. We offered for them to use tin foil as an art material which they were eager to try!
We spent lots of time outdoors this morning drawing with chalk, riding bikes and playing in the sand. What a beautiful day for fresh air and gross motor exercise!
Breakfast: Whole wheat toast with peanut butter and fresh clementines.
Lunch: Whole wheat pasta with kidney beans, fresh kiwi/pineapple/apples and fresh cucumbers/peppers.
PM Snack: Whole milk yogurt with granola.

Have a great day!
