Good Afternoon!

We had an engaging indoor morning in imaginative play using moon dough explore new ideas.  Several friends created a bakery which Milllie named “Carl’s Café”.  They pretended to make all kinds of delicious desserts pressing the dough into shape molds and cutting them up to serve!  Not everyone was a baker.  We had a couple of hard working pasta chefs as well!

Outside there was a lot of help in the garden!  Many friends helped to pick vegetables for lunch.  We got our first zucchini today and everyone was excited to try it at lunch.  The zucchini was the only veggie that made it to lunch since the kids chose to eat all of the green beans and pea pods straight away!

We collectively decided that the radishes were too strong a flavor for us so we decided to play with them in the mud kitchen.  We washed the veggies and prepared them for imaginary soups and stir fries.

Good Afternoon!

Sorry for the accidental send earlier without a description of our activities for the day!

Today our friend Hannah chose to engage in the musical instruments.  She began with the shakers and bells.  Several friends joined in the activity and we were busy shaking our bells and shakers to make beautiful sounds.  Ben and Eliza engaged in making beautiful sounds on the pianos and xylophones.

IMG_1513IMG_1514IMG_1518IMG_1523IMG_1524

We then headed into the kitchen to work on many skills with the pegs and pegboards.  Everyone used a variety of different colors and if they knew the color they said it to a teacher or if they are still working on their color recognition, a teacher said the color they were adding to their board or tower they built for them.

IMG_1531IMG_1533IMG_1535IMG_1530

We then headed outside to engage in many of our favorite activities.

Good afternoon!

We started our morning by dancing to “Slippery Fish” with different hand motions. Our friends pushed different vehicles down wooden ramps. Eliza and Ben flipped over plastic blocks to use as boats.

IMG_1410IMG_1414IMG_1426IMG_1425IMG_1432IMG_1433

We were engaged in using ramp wood pieces in our play with our shape train cars, that Miss Bekah thought of a ramp we could use for painting with balls. We rolled balls down the tiny turf slide to make colorful prints as our balls made their way down the paper.  Those of us who were waiting for a turn, sat and cheered and clapped for our friends.

We made our way outside to scoop sand in the sandbox, engage in water play, draw under the shade, play in the housekeeping area, or scoop rocks with a shovel.

Welcome back!

It’s been an exciting Monday with new friends!  We are happy to welcome Paige and Asher to the Wee Friends family!  Both have fit seamlessly into their new classroom environment, enjoying play dough, painting as well as fostering friendships!

IMG_2999IMG_2969IMG_3007IMG_2951

Indoors this morning, we used new building manipulatives at the circle table and let our imagination flow at the art table.

IMG_2954IMG_2960

Outdoors we were surprised to see how big the garden got while we were on break.  Several friends helped to pick and eat pea pods and green beans.  We discovered that our zinnias have started to bloom and we spent time finding how many different colors there were in the blooms.  We also discovered a zucchini and cucumber growing.  We looked at the flowers on the plants talking about the process of flowering, pollination and the fruiting that the plants go through.  It is a wonderful treat to watch these processes unfolding naturally and in real time.

Welcome back!  We hope everyone had a great summer vacation.  Our friends were so happy to see all of their friends and teachers.  We jumped right in to many favorite activities.  The housekeeping area was a popular area as we were busy placing the food out onto plates, accessorizing our clothes with items from dress-up and laying a baby doll onto a blanket.

IMG_1368IMG_1370IMG_1374(1)IMG_1382

We then enjoyed listening to Miss Tina read to us and building with the shape train and car carrier and driving them around on the carpet.

IMG_1390IMG_1381(1)IMG_1380

We then headed outside and Emily painted with watercolors on the easel, Ben scooped up rocks in his hands and put them in the bucket, Dax used a spoon to make a leaf salad in housekeeping and Arthur, Ben and Eliza sat at the table under the tree to explore some sticks.

Happy Tuesday!

Today is Paige’s last day in the WWF class before she transitions over to the WF classroom. We have loved seeing her grow from an infant to a toddler. We will miss her!

IMG_1328

We had a very busy morning engaging in different activities. Emily and Paige enjoyed reading a book together on the reading steps. Ben was smiling as he looked through the Magna-Tiles. Eliza used a blanket to wrap her baby doll. Arthur worked on stacking different shapes on his wooden train. Paige’s goal was to make Eleanor laugh by making silly faces.

IMG_1322IMG_1326IMG_1332IMG_1333IMG_1340

We then made our way outside to go down the slide, push around trucks in the rock area, play in the sandbox, and sit at the table with our siblings.

Greetings!

It was a delicious morning of picking and eating from the garden!  We harvested a large radish and enjoyed the opportunity to taste it!  Most of us felt the flavor of the radish was too strong for our taste, but there were a few friends who asked for more!  The favorite garden veggies were the yellow and green pea pods!  Many friends helped to harvest them in the garden.  We talked about how to carefully hold the pod at the base and snap it off.  We looked at how the pea plant holds its self up with its small tendrils and how to be careful not to pull it down.  Everyone was very mindful of the plants…everyone wanted the plants to keep making pea pods!  We ate a full bowl of pods straight off the vine!  So nutritious!

IMG_2826IMG_2836IMG_2842IMG_2844

Indoors this morning it was all about playing school!  Several friends took turns playing teacher and reading to their friends while recalling story lines and story sequence.  As the school make- believe continued, many friends happily practiced spelling and writing letters.  What an educational make believe game! This was a great example of play based learning, child driven and teacher supported.

IMG_2786IMG_2797IMG_2814

In the art center several wee friends worked on collaborative paintings.  We put up a large paper which covered the entire easel.  Sets of partners worked together making large paintings and finding the joy in team made artwork.

IMG_2804IMG_2817

In the science center a few friends began a bridge making project using magnetic connectors.  As the bridge grew, we decided to measure it.  Of course this was great motivation for making it even longer.  At its maximum length, the bridge spanned the entire science area and measure 72 inches or 6 feet.  Everyone involved enjoyed using the tape measure and finding the length of the bridge!

Good afternoon!

This morning we engaged in reading books independently on the reading step, dressed up in the dress up clothes and accessories of our choosing, watched the fish swim around the tank, made music with the bells, danced to Frozen songs and felt the texture of the ball between our hands.

IMG_1293IMG_1303IMG_1306IMG_1309IMG_1294IMG_1302

We then headed into the kitchen to paint at the easel.  Miss Bekah gave us red, turquoise and yellow watercolors and a medium bristle brush.  We filled our papers full of colors and even made some new colors when mixing them together on our papers.
