Good Afternoon!

We worked with shapes today in K/PREK1 group. Each friend had three shapes that they had to identify and place under the shape name. We talked about how many sides each shape has as well as similarities and differences between shapes. For example, we talked about how a square and rectangle are similar and different: they both have four sides but a rectangle is longer than a square.

K.4.1: Identify and describe geometric objects: circle, triangle, square, rectangle, diamond, trapezoid, hexagon, octagon. parallelogram, sphere, and cube.

IMG_3728IMG_3732IMG_3733

In PREK2, children played a game using hexagon pieces and a gameboard. The main object of the game was to work on rhyming words! Miss Kim started a conversation about rhyming words and what rhyming words sound like.

IMG_1173IMG_1172IMG_1175

‘Peanut’ was the star of our art activity this morning! Friends had various interpretations of what she looks like.

IMG_1108IMG_1100IMG_1117IMG_1123

We got some fresh air by going for a short walk before lunch. We even got to see a train that was on the tracks down the road!

Good Afternoon!

The kindergarten sign in required children to draw a line from a shape to the shape name. We talked about the number of sides on each shape as the lines were being drawn.

K.4.1: Identify and describe geometric objects: circle, triangle, square, rectangle, diamond, trapezoid, hexagon, octagon. parallelogram, sphere, and cube.

IMG_0981

We played a round of memory game with rhyming words in K/PREK1! Cards were placed picture side down and we went around the circle so everyone could have a turn. We played until all of the matches were spoken for. Not only did children have to decide if the two words rhymed but friends had to pay attention to where the cards were which was the hardest part!

K.RF.3.1: Identify and produce rhyming words.

IMG_1070IMG_3714IMG_3713

In PREK2, children were given one shape. They looked at the shape and using sticks, made their own shape!

IMG_1074IMG_1078

IMG_1089IMG_1085

A fun, interactive activity was set up on the backdoor. Miss Annastecia created a contact paper snowman! There were various materials that were set out for friends to put on the snowman including puff balls, foam pieces, wooden sticks, and crinkle paper. Children LOVED adding to the snowman.

IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A NEW WINTER TIME ACTIVITY, THIS WAS A BIG HIT!

“Children learn as they play, and more importantly in play, they learn how to learn.”

We switched out the swings in the habitrail area. We got out the green bar which proves to be a little more challenging for friends to get up on the bar. BUT it offers a great opportunity for perseverance and hard work.

Good Afternoon

We started our day off pretty excited about breakfast! Our little ones LOVE Kix cereal. Smile

IMG_0681IMG_0682

Ms. Bekah brought in a matching activity from her house that our two year old’s could engage in today! The matching objects were footballs that had different colors on them. Friends could utilize their cognitive skills to try and recall where the same colored football match was from a prior flip of the ball. Our color recognition skills are also an added in skill that we work on.

IMG_0717

Meanwhile, our younger friends manipulated puzzles that were age appropriate for their age group.

IMG_0722IMG_0726

IMG_0728IMG_0729

After we were all done manipulating the puzzles we went over to the sensory table to engage in scooping, pouring and cleaning up sand that we had spilled onto the floor.

Good afternoon and Happy Monday! I hope you all had a fantastic weekend.

We were very happy to have all eight of our friends back with us at school today! Smile

One of our two and a half year old friends asked teachers if we could paint today! We all love to paint so we decided that this was a great idea. We painted with snowflake stamps with the colors blue and white!

IMG_0616IMG_0644IMG_0657IMG_0646

We then had a great time utilizing our gross motor skills. We used our body and balancing skills to walk up and then down the soft star climber. We also learn how to work with our friends on taking turns and waiting patiently.

IMG_0642IMG_0650IMG_0652IMG_0662

Miss Emma was very found of the Frosty the Snowman book today! She carried it around the  classroom most of the morning. However, she did take a quick break to sit down and read it/look at the pictures.

Happy Monday!

Evie and Mack explored uppercase and lowercase letters for their kindergarten sign in. There were blank spaces where they had to write the missing letter.

K.W.2.1: Write most uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet, correctly shaping and spacing.

IMG_0877

During K/PREK1 group, we read, ‘Dinosaur Alphabet Book’. Afterwards, we played ‘Shape-ing-o’ which is a shape bingo game! We helped one another throughout the game. There were a mixture of 2-D and 3-D shapes. We’ll play again later in the week to see if our knowledge of shapes has grown after exploring them in various activities.

K.4.1: Identify and describe geometric objects: circle, triangle, square, rectangle, diamond, trapezoid, hexagon, octagon. parallelogram, sphere, and cube.

IMG_0921IMG_0920

In PREK2, friends worked together to match shapes. Children took the shapes and found the match on the sheet that was provided. As they found the match, they talked about the name of each shape.

IMG_0929IMG_0934IMG_0924

One of our favorite books in our MACK collection is ‘What Should Danny Do?’. It’s an interactive game where children get to make Danny’s choices for him. The choices that we make for Danny will affect his day. At each stopping point in the story where there’s a dilemma, two choices are made available: a good choice and a poor choice.

We love reading the book multiple times, making different choices to see how it changes his day!

IMG_0880

We switched out the sensory bin to colored rice! Friends were quick to explore the bin and the materials that were put in there as well.

IMG_0914IMG_0902IMG_0904

Happy Friday!

Mack and Evie looked at our groups on their kindergarten sign in: 1 syllable, 2 syllables, 3 syllables, and 4 syllables. We read several words that were written on notecards and when they determined how many syllables each word had, they placed the card onto the correct group.

K.RF.3.2: Orally segment words into syllables.

IMG_0791IMG_0793

We read two ‘Frog and Toad’ stories in K/PREK1 group. Afterwards, we formed a circle where laminated cards were placed face down in the center of our circle. Throughout our activity, friends got to choose three cards that had an image on it along with three numbers. Evie chose first. She got a picture of a flower and determined that ‘flower’ has two syllables. She found the number 2 on her card and clipped that number using a clothespin.

K.RF.3.2: Orally segment words into syllables.

IMG_3652IMG_3655IMG_3658

We put shaving cream out for our morning sensory experience. Most friends enjoyed working their hands around in the shaving cream while others used their finger to draw pictures or write their name!

IMG_0757IMG_0767IMG_0763

After the shaving cream experience came to a close, water color palettes were made available for friends to use. Brushes with small tips were given to friends who wanted to explore the palettes. Our watercolor creations turned out beautiful!

Good Afternoon and Happy Friday!

Our friends were all about engaging with the baby dolls again today. Most of our morning was spent getting the babies to sleep, feeding them and even lying down and going to sleep with them. How sweet!

IMG_0555IMG_0551

IMG_0557IMG_0568

Paige and another friend wanted to sit on the stools and watch our fish, Hey Diddle Diddle and Orangie swim around their water home.

IMG_0597

A few friends noticed the many letters on the wall. Then a conversation started about what letters were seeing. Then friends moved onto looking at the wall abacus and how they could manipulate the balls all around the paths.

Good Afternoon!

Evie and Mack counted three different configurations. Once they figured out the total, they circled each group with a certain marker color.

K.NS.5: Count up to 20 objects arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle. Count up to 10 objects in a scattered configuration.

IMG_0635IMG_0633

After reading, ‘A to Z Have You Ever Felt Like Me?’ in K/PREK1, we worked together to identify uppercase letters and put them in order. C started by finding the A, followed by Evie who found the B, and so on. There were a few letters that proved challenging and friends were quick to help one another!

K.RF.2.4: Identify and name all uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet.

IMG_0716IMG_0727

In PREK2, children were asked to pull out a certain color of puff ball out of the group. When they pulled out every puff ball of that color, they had to count how many they had!

Good Afternoon.

We were happy to see a couple more friends join in our classroom fun today!

IMG_0374IMG_0434

Today we were excited working with glue. Some of the older friends enjoyed squeezing glue from their glue bottle while our younger friends attempted but still needed some guidance. Once our glue was placed onto our construction paper we put down white cotton balls. We pretended the cotton balls were snow balls. Smile

IMG_0392IMG_0382

IMG_0399IMG_0410

Since we had warmer weather today, we bundled up in our snow pants, boots, hats and gloves and headed outside for some fresh air and to have fun playing in the snow. We enjoyed sledding down the small hill, eating the snow and just walking on snow hearing it crunch underneath our feet.
