Happy Friday!

We ended the week by reading, ‘Froggy Plays In The Band’ in K/PREK1 group. At the beginning of the story, Froggy decided to start a band that would march in a parade. The winner would be given a prize and together, we brainstormed about what the prize might be offered! We came up with a trophy or medal and sure enough, the prize was a trophy!

K.RL.2.4: Make predictions about what will happen in a story.

After the story was done, we used a food scale to measure three things: a rock, glass container with gems, and glass container with nails. Everyone got a chance to hold each item. They each made a guess as to what item was going to weigh the most: and everyone was right in their guess!

We talked about the different types of scales and ways to weigh things after Mack said, “I have a scale at home but it’s for your body!”

K.M.1: Make direction comparisons of the length, capacity, weight, and temperature of objects, and recognize which object is shorter, longer, taller, lighter, heavier, warmer, cooler, or holds more.

Colored water was placed in bins this morning for a sensory experience. Children used various sized spoons to move the water as well as explore fall materials such as bones and eyeballs.

An extensive game of Simon Says took place this morning. A few of the commands we heard were:

“Simon says…smell your shoes.”

“Simon says…do downward facing dog.”

“Simon says…do a pushup!”

…we have to work on our pushup form just a little bit! Smile

Good Afternoon and Happy Friday! I hope you all have had a great week.

Miss Emma climbed up onto the habi-trail and found the wall abacus. She really enjoys manipulating the small beads on the board and working her fingers and hands to get them to move to different areas. This activity enhances Emma’s cognitive, fine motor and hand-eye coordination skills. She does a great job! Smile

A friend asked Miss Annastecia yesterday if she and her friends could play with shaving cream for today’s sensory activity. So that was just what we did! The Little People dolls were added into our play to make it more fun and interesting.

Good Afternoon!

In K/PREK1, we read ‘Lion Lessons’. Right away, every member of our group shared that they had read this book before so throughout the story, they shared a few sneak peaks as to what was coming up next.

We started a conversations about lions which sparked a wider discussion about animals and comparing weight. Each friend got to add one animal to the ‘light’ category and one animal to the ‘heavy’ category. When everyone got a turn, children immediately started sharing, “We forgot giraffe!” or “We should’ve added fish!”

K.M.1: Make direction comparisons of the length, capacity, weight, and temperature of objects, and recognize which object is shorter, longer, taller, lighter, heavier, warmer, cooler, or holds more.

In PREK2, children worked with volume. There were test tubes with various volumes and they had to figure out which test tubes had the most liquid as well as the least.

DSCN4924DSCN4918

Playdough was requested this morning and instead of using regular playdough tools, children used bones, eyeballs, and snakes in their playdough! We’re definitely getting into the fall spirit over here!

Happy Thursday!

This morning our little friend, Emma was engaging in the tiny Duplo people. She was working on taking them out of  their basket and placing them on the green board. Her hand-eye coordination skills were being put to full use during this fun activity.

Our friend, Paige was happy at the habi-trial gross motor center. She loves to balance her body leaning on the ladder and then walking down the slide vs sliding on her bottom or belly.

PA140070PA140076

Evie, from the preschool classroom absolutely loves our little Wee Wee’s. She and a couple other Wee’s take our little ones by the  hand and walk them around the outdoor play area. What a sweet sight!!!

Good Afternoon and Happy Wednesday.

This morning we engaged in leaf painting with vibrant Fall colors. We had a great time putting our leaves into our wet paint to then placing them on our papers to make leaf prints. We then really had fun painting with our hands and fingers to end our sensory experience. Smile

PA130023PA130025

We then went into the classroom and listened to Halloween music and danced away with shakers.

We were then happy to be heading outdoors for some fresh air, to see our friends/siblings from the preschool classroom, enjoy all the pretty colors the leaves are turning and of course…. play with the baby dolls.

Good Afternoon!

After reading, ‘Pooh’s Halloween Parade’, we made two lists: a warm/hot list and a cool/cold list. Mack and Evie’s sign in specifically dealt with foods that were cold and hot this morning but for K/PREK1, we opened it up to all possibilities. Each group member came up with one example for each category. Several of the responses had to do with water and the water temperature which brought about a conversation about water and its different forms.

K.M.1: Make direction comparisons of the length, capacity, weight, and temperature of objects, and recognize which object is shorter, longer, taller, lighter, heavier, warmer, cooler, or holds more.

DSCN9514DSCN9525DSCN9527

In PREK2, each group member was given a ruler. They each got a turn to roll the dice and identified the number that they rolled. If they rolled a four, then they put together four cubes along the ruler to see how long the cubes measured!

DSCN9522DSCN9519DSCN9518

Children split up into several different areas throughout the classroom environment this morning. Four or five children occupied the housekeeping area where rounds of ‘family’ and ‘doctor’ were played while a group of younger peers gathered in the habitrail area, chanting, “We are doctor weasels! We are doctor weasels!”

DSCN9456DSCN9460DSCN9463DSCN9476

Mack and Daniel put in work at the art table, marveling at how well the new markers work! They were helpful as they reminder their younger peers how we treat our markers, stating, “We don’t want them to run out!” Smile

After breakfast we played in the classroom for a little while and then headed back into the kitchen for a fun chalk and sugar water activity. Chalk is added to warm sugar water to make the colors of the chalk more vibrant when used on paper. We loved this activity! Please check your child’s art cubby for their creations to take home.

Happy Monday!

We read, ‘Hey, Little Ant’ in K/PREK1 group which is one of our favorites from the MACK collection. This week, our MACK is:

Children will learn about kindness and the power of positive words.

In the story, a child contemplates stepping on an ant. They have a conversation throughout the story about the act and how each would feel if the rolls were reversed.

After we finished the story, we identified one of our FAB’s for the week which revolves around comparison words. Today, we focused on length. We used a tape measurer to measure four lines. Before we measured the lines, I asked the group to tell me which line they thought would be the longest/shortest. Once we were done measuring the lines, they looked at the numbers and put the lines into order from shortest to longest!

K.M.1: Make direction comparisons of the length, capacity, weight, and temperature of objects, and recognize which object is shorter, longer, taller, lighter, heavier, warmer, cooler, or holds more.

DSCN4695DSCN4711DSCN4710

In PREK2, children used a scale to measure certain items. The items varied in weight. Each member got one item and they placed two items on the scale at a time, guessing which item was going to weigh more.

DSCN4702DSCN4700

Earlier this morning, an activity was made available at the art table that required children to use spoons and tongs to move water and items from one container to another. Children love working with tongs and challenging their fine motor skills!

Happy Monday!I hope you all had a fabulous weekend.

Today we swapped out our moon sand sensory bin for our festive Fall bin. Friends were all very happy and excited to see the difference in what was in the bins and play with it. The mixture had black beans, corn, corn stalks/husks and pine cones.

Friends had a great time in the colorful big blocks. They love to climb in the blocks and pretend they are rowing boats. We can initiate talking about the bold color of their block and its shape as well.

PA113962PA113963

One of our older Wee Wee’s has really been into sweeping inside and outside here lately. We caught her in action today in the outdoor environment sweeping the rocks off of the cement. This is a great way to learn about being helpful.
