Good Afternoon!

This morning a friend asked to play with the bells.  We engaged in shaking them while singing, If Your Happy and You Know It.  We then shook each of the different bells we had to see what kind of sound each one made; a softer sound or louder sound.

A friend decided to place both of the rainbow mats in front of the habitrail ladder.  We then used those as a tunnel to crawl through to make our way under the habitrail to crawl over the star stairs and slide mat.

I found a quote by Albert Camus that I feel fits perfectly with these pictures… “Don’t walk behind me, I may not lead.  Don’t walk in front of me; I may not follow.  Just walk beside me and be my friend.”

Good Afternoon!

This morning, our day began by using our gross motor muscles while climbing and crawling on the habitrail before sliding down the slide.

While looking for the trash truck that we see on Mondays, we saw a different truck with a bucket.  Friends were very excited to see it parked on our side of the street. We unfortunately did not see any workers working nearby.

We added something new and exciting to our sensory bin today…Moon Sand!  Friends used shovels, measuring spoons and cups to scoop the moon sand.  We noticed how it looks different and has a different feel/texture than regular sand.  We also found out we could make the mold of the cup the same way as when we make sand castles with the sand outside when it is wet.  We then added some of our rubber water animals for friends to be able to bury in the sand and then find them again.  We had a blast!

Happy Monday!

This week’s focus will be on calendars: why we use them, what we can find on a calendar, and the terms that we use.

For sign in, children answered the question: ‘Why do we use a calendar?’

We continued this conversation into K group as we read, ‘A Child’s Calendar’ which focuses on the twelve months of the year. On each page, one month is the focus. Illustrations and words tell what the month is filled with. For example, in July, fireworks and celebrating America were the main event!

Social Studies: K.1.5 Explain that calendars are used to represent days of the week and months of the year.

In PREK2, children read and chatted about cicadas! They identified the life cycle of a cicada and dove into each stage a little bit.

Children got their sensory fix this morning in the sandbox! Right as we headed outside, the sandbox immediately became full of friends chatting with one another about what to make. My personal favorite? Sand ice cream!

There were several children who were hunting for bugs. Using a bug jar, they placed the bugs into the jar. Millie and James quickly realized that the bugs needed food so they went around the yard looking for weeds for their bugs to eat. Not only did they keep their bugs fed but our yard now has much less weeds Smile.

Good Afternoon!

This morning a few friends worked on their stacking skills.  One friend used a stacking pole to stack his triangles back onto it, while the other friend independently stacked his blocks together to make a tall stack.

We then headed into the kitchen to do some painting with watercolor ice cubes. We had a discussion about how we had to put them into the freezer for watercolors  to freeze into ice cubes. Friends loved watching them begin to melt as they moved their ice cube across their papers.   Friends shared the ice cubes were “cold and looked like candy;” because of  the variety of colors they saw.

The chalk was brought out for us to draw on the chalkboard.  Friends were drawing in a circular motion with their chalk which is a pre-writing skill that will help them when they are ready for writing the alphabet letters.

Good Afternoon!

Today is our friend Paige’s 1st birthday!  Happy Birthday Paige!  We are so glad we got to celebrate your birthday with you.

P5122554

We engaged with our musical instruments this morning.  We enjoyed playing them to sing Happy Birthday to our friend Paige.  After singing to her, we playing while singing other familiar songs; BINGO, Old MacDonald Had a Farm and Shake or Sillies Out.  Instead of shaking our sillies out we tapped our sillies out using the instruments.

Friends were busy outside filling their dump truck with sand.  They used a shovel to scoop the sand and put it in the truck.  When they were ready to scoop the sand out of the dump truck, they said they were using their “excavator hands” to do it.

P5122579P5122583

Another friend was playing with the sea animals.  He decided to sort the animals by kind and place each kind separately using the stools.  The frogs he also sorted by the colors on them and skin type; bumpy skin and smooth skin.

Good Afternoon!

Kindergarteners tackled addition problems using cents and money today for their sign in activity and group activity. We identified the four main coins and also talked about how much each coin is worth!

Social Studies: K.4.1 Explain that people work to earn money to buy the things they want. Introduce money names and values.

In PREK2 group, children played a version of BINGO: money bingo!

New additions were placed in the housekeeping area this morning! We added materials that centered about being a vet: animals, pretend tools, clipboards with check-in sheets, and other materials. Friends loved exploring the new additions!

DSCN3558DSCN3548DSCN3529DSCN3525

Before heading outside this morning, Sophia and Mack worked together to build a SUPER tall magnatile tower! We can easily say it’s the tallest tower that’s been built (at least lately!).

It was such a gorgeous day that children took full advantage of our balance bikes! Our three year old’s are becoming more confident when riding the bikes—they can be quite challenging! Smile
