Good Afternoon and Happy Friday!

We were all very excited to see the leaf truck come our way this morning. We didn’t have any homes that needed their leaves picked up, unfortunately but we were still very excited to see the large truck drive by!

Hello!

Our kindergarteners sign in and K group exercise matched up as we dove into verbs, specifically action verbs!

During their sign in experience, they had a word bank of four action verbs that they had to plug into a sentence that made the most sense. They used the context clues throughout the sentence as they chose what action verb to insert into the sentence.

We took it one step further in K group as we read five sentences and worked together to identify the action verb in each sentence. Every group member was able to identify the action verb after I read the sentence!

K.W.6.1b: Verbs– Writing sentences that include verbs.

In PREK2, Miss Kim read the story titled, ‘Thankful’ which lead into their message board. Children answered the question “What or who are you thankful for?”

“It’s the sort of thing caring adults too often do: the kids were working together to solve a kind of puzzle, but they were robbed of an opportunity for independence, collaboration, and perhaps even epiphany by a well-intended adult.”

I found this short Teacher Tom blog post today that focuses on giving children the opportunity to explore new things and situations, instead of giving them the answers or ‘bursting their bubble’.

Good Afternoon and Happy Veteran’s Day!

This morning Nesta and I were playing with the pegs and their boards that have specific shapes to them. We were working on the heart shaped board and Nesta kept calling it a star. That led she and I into a more detailed conversation about shapes.

I drew various shapes on a piece of paper and we worked on telling the difference of what those shapes actually were. I was very happy and surprised Nesta was so interested. Smile

While Miss Rebekah was reading stories to our friends, the song/story, there were ten in the bed… came into conversation.

Miss Bekah got out our fun big comfy pillow so that we could all act out the song by rolling off of the pillow.  We had a GREAT time.  (There were ten in the bed and the little one said, roll over… roll over!)

Good Afternoon!

First and foremost, we want to send out a big happy 4th birthday to Daniel! We are so glad we got to spend your 4th birthday with you!

DSCN5997DSCN6004

The kindergarteners had to write the number that came before and after a specific number this morning for their sign in . For example, they wrote the numbers 12 and 14 as they came before and after the number 13 that was the focus. This theme rolled over into our K group time where children got the opportunity to write a number that was missing in a number line from 0 to 20.

K.NS.3: Find the number that is one more than or one less than any whole number up to 20.

DSCN6056DSCN6059DSCN6054

In PREK2, children worked with addition problems, specifically when adding 1 to a number.

Good Afternoon!

We read, ‘There’s a Wocket in my Pocket!’ in K group. During kindergarten sign in, we focused on creating word families so that lead our group chat today. After we finished up the story, we created three different word families that focused on the words wit, candy, and pin. We identified the similarities in each word family such as ‘in’ in the pin word family.

K.RF.3.5: Add, delete, or substitute sounds to change words.

DSCN5980DSCN5982

In PREK2, children created a rhyming word with their name! They talked about rhyming words and how you can create a rhyming word by removing the first letter of the word and replacing it with another letter.

DSCN5974DSCN5975DSCN5978

The rest of our morning revolved around activities such as magnatiles, art easel, art table, and puzzles. And yes, we did get out some holiday toys for the housekeeping area!

Happy Friday!

In K group, we read, ‘What Happened to Patrick’s Dinosaurs?’ which is a fiction story about a brothers theory of what really happened to the dinosaurs. We thought their theories were very funny! (think spaceships!)

Afterwards, each friend had to the opportunity to add a singular or plural noun to the missing space in a sentence. For example, Z had to fill in the sentence, ‘I have one ________ at my house.’ She filled it in with baby sister creating the sentence, ‘I have one baby sister at my house.’

K.W.6.1a: Nouns/Pronouns- Writing sentences that include singular and/or plural nouns (e.g., dog/dogs, cat/cats).

DSCN8856

In PREK2, children worked with laminated pumpkins with various numbers of each pumpkin. They had to match the number to the correct number of orange gems!

DSCN8859DSCN8858

Friends took turns this morning exploring the light table and various manipulatives. Mostly, friends took the toys and sorted them by color into groups around the light table.

The sensory table was made available as friends moved colored rice around the bin. Children used scoopers and different utensils to fill and dump the rice.

“Respect all the reasonable forms of activity in which the child engages and try to understand them”
