Happy Monday!

Yesterday, Maggie turned 3! We celebrated her birthday today and now, all of our friends are 3 years old and up! –happy birthday, Maggie!

After we read, ‘The Rainbow Fish’ in K group, we talked about singular and plural nouns. Each friend had to finish one sentence that had a blank space. The first sentence read, ‘I have two ______ at home. They bark a lot!’

Using context clues from the sentence, Z figured out that the missing word was dogs! We talked about whether the word should be dog or dogs. We did this for each sentence and chatted about adding an ‘s’ when we’re dealing with more than one thing.

K.W.6.1a: Nouns/pronouns- Writing sentences that include singular and/or plural nouns (e.g., dog/dogs, cat/cats)

For kindergarten sign in, children took five strips and sorted them in the correct order. On each strip, were numbers: 0-10, 11-20, 21-30, 31-40, and 41-50. After children placed them in the right order, they used their one to one correspondence skills by placing their fingers on each number and saying it aloud.

K.NS.1: Count to at least 100 by ones and tens.

In PREK2, children took plastic eggs that each had a letter and placed them in alphabetical order!

Last Friday, Miss Annastecia took oranges and lemons and dried them out in the oven. Today, friends took the dried fruit slices and made garland with them! They also incorporated beads into their garland! They turned out fantastic and are now hanging on the tree branch in our classroom!

Good Afternoon. I hope you all had a fantastic weekend.

Today we engaged in very fun sensory activity… GOOP. This is a mixture of cornstarch and water, but some of our friends said it looked like milk. The GOOP will harden then as it lies still in your hand for a second or two, it turns watery. It was so much fun. Smile

Happy Friday!

Today, we celebrated James’ birthday: he’s three! We are so happy that we were able to celebrate his birthday with him!

DSCN9365DSCN9393

Our six kindergarteners have time in the morning to sign in. It’s a great time for activities specific to each child’s developmental level. Today, we focused on animals and sorting them into the correct category: house, zoo, and farm There were several animals that could’ve went into two categories such as turtle (I shared that I had a pet turtle when I was little) and bird. Children were very descriptive when it came to defending their position to put the turkey in the farm as opposed to the zoo, for example.

K.RV.2.2: Identify and sort pictures of objects into categories (e.g., colors, shapes, opposites).

IMG_0154IMG_0156IMG_0159

Good Afternoon.

This morning we enjoyed doing an art activity in a different kind of way than we typically do. We dot painted with our dot markers! We love to dab, dab, dab all over our papers.

We then decided we wanted to engage ourselves in the sensory table. This activity is always a fun way to scoop, pour and pick apart the corn cobs as well as explore all the many other items in the table.

Good Afternoon!

This morning, our kindergarteners tackled their sign in where they had to write the numbers 0 to 10. After they were done writing their numbers, they had to match the number to the correct number word. They used their knowledge of letter sounds when trying to distinguish between the number words.

K.NS.2: Write whole numbers from 0 to 20 and recognize number words from 0 to 10.

DSCN9148DSCN9156DSCN9184

In PREK2, children were given an UNO card with a specific number of in. Each child had the opportunity to take a marker and draw the number of dots that matched the card.

DSCN9201DSCN9200

The morning activity drew kids in all morning! Friends used tongs to transfer various sized puff balls to glass jars. While it was a simple activity, children were able to extend it by adding in different variables and creating new games.

DSCN9107DSCN9123

DSCN9140DSCN9134

Friends took turns at the art table where they used glue to attach string to their paper. Once they were done gluing the string, friends were able to paint the spaces around their picture. They all turned out FANTASTIC and were all so different.
