Good afternoon families!

We enjoyed a special activity for our last day before break.  Volunteers from our older group helped bake pumpkin muffins for our snack this afternoon.  We measured the ingredients, stirred them together, baked them, and of course ate them!

Good Afternoon!

We began our Tuesday by Going On A Bear Hunt with our stuffed teddy bears.  A friend asked that all his friends and teacher join in.  Another friend then requested that we read the book, Row, Row, Row, Your Boat by Iza Trapani while sitting in our plastic blocks that we turned into boats.

IMG_8611(4)IMG_8612(4)IMG_8607(3)IMG_8625(4)IMG_8628(4)

We then headed into the kitchen to engage with pegs and pegboards.  We filled each of the holes with a peg and built tall towers to see how many pegs we could stack before it leaned too far over and broke apart.  Eleanor sorted her color pegs and built towers using the same color pegs for each one.

IMG_8635(2)IMG_8642(3)IMG_8645(3)IMG_8647(4)IMG_8649(3)IMG_8652(4)

Miss Bekah then reintroduced 2 songs, Animal Action 1 & 2 by Greg and Steve.  The animals we acted out were elephants, lions, snakes and spiders to name a few.

IMG_8657(4)IMG_8659(4)IMG_8664(4)IMG_8656(4)

Miss Tina, Charlotte and Eleanor were all matching in Bluey t-shirts/sweatshirt today.

Good Afternoon!

*We will have a pajama day on Wednesday!

Our day was filled with color as we combined art and science to make these beautiful paintings!  We followed a process to create water color salt artwork.  First, we covered our water color paper with a coat of water.  Next, we used an eye dropper to add drops of liquid water color.  We observed as the drops of color spread like blooming fire works on our paper.  It was quite mesmerizing for some.  Last, we sprinkled salt onto our paintings and watched the slow reaction of the salt forming fractal patterns in the water color.  We spent all morning emersed in this project.

Happy Monday!

We started off our morning by bringing out the plastic blocks and sitting in them. We used our imaginative skills to pretend that they were boats as we read “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” and several other books.

IMG_8539(4)IMG_8540(4)IMG_8543(3)IMG_8545(4)IMG_8548(4)

We then made our way into the kitchen to engage with playdough. Today is a friend’s birthday, so we pretended the golf tees were candles. We used other tools to manipulate the playdough and some of our friends rolled the dough in their hands to make different shapes.

IMG_8552(2)IMG_8554(4)IMG_8555(4)IMG_8557(4)IMG_8559(4)

We then headed outside to mainly play in the sandbox with leaves and shovels. Charlotte practiced her balance skills with Miss Mindy on the beam course. Cece joined us outside and snuggled with Miss Ashley.

Good Afternoon!

**We will do a pajama day on Wednesday!

This morning we enjoyed sensory play in the art center as we used paint brushes or our hands to draw pictures with shaving cream on aluminum foil.  Most chose to use their hands and dove into the sensory experience finger painting circles and lines again and again.

Our oldest kids have been very interested in making tiny people.  As a special activity, they got to experiment with colored craft clay to further build on that interest.  They made several little people as well as some flowers and a jellyfish.  It was impressive to see how intricately detailed they were able to make their miniature creations! Our kids enjoyed the process of making and baking the clay so they could take their creations home.

PREK2: Today we read the story, ‘Tomatoes for Neela’.  It talked about a family tradition of making tomato sauce together.  This was how Neela helped her family.  After the story, we each chose what we could do to help in our own family.  We picked from picking up toys, making dinner and washing dishes, as a way we liked to help.

Happy Friday!

Today we worked on sorting our shapes and working to find the spot they fit in, in the roof of the house.

IMG_8472(4)IMG_8473(4)IMG_8477(4)

We then made a walking course with our textured stepping stones, Bounce Blocks and liquid squares around the front area of the classroom.

IMG_8488(4)IMG_8493(4)IMG_8496(4)IMG_8502(4)

We then looked through our colored squares and Miss Bekah shared the name of the colors we were looking through.  Eleanor then decided to build with them.

IMG_8512(4)IMG_8515(4)IMG_8517(4)IMG_8520(4)

We then headed into the kitchen to draw with white and colored pieces of chalk on chalkboards.  We were also given a towel to erase what we had drawn to clean it off so we could draw something new.

IMG_8521(4)IMG_8526(4)IMG_8528(4)IMG_8530(4)

Breakfast:  Whole grain brown rice cakes with peanut butter and bananas.

Lunch:  Hummus, whole grain wheat tortillas, fresh red bell peppers and bananas.

Our PREK1 sign in had three steps in it today! First, children had to find their name on a domino. Once they found their domino, they counted each side of the domino and added each side together. Finally, they found their addition equation on the sign in board that matched their domino and wrote the total of their equation and signed under the equation.

K.CA.1-2: Solve real-world problems, objects, or drawings that involve addition and subtraction within 10. Demonstrate the equation (e.g. 5=3+2 and 5=4+1).

This morning most of the class enjoyed some time creating and playing in “box town”.  Some friends painted boxes and made dolls to play with inside of them.  Others used empty plain boxes to build “sky scrapers”.  The group added magnetic tile roads and toy trucks to the town.  Everyone had a great time playing together!  Yet another use for recycled materials!  There’s no end to the possibilities!

IMG_7611(5)

IMG_7618(3)IMG_7640(4)

Several friends enjoyed loose parts sensory and building activities at the round table.  Some chose to use the activity for calm focus or pattern making.  Others worked with a partner and enjoyed imaginative play making birthday cakes.  Everyone was able to create what they needed from the materials provided.

IMG_7649(4)IMG_7599(5)

PREK2 journals continue to advance.  Drawings are becoming more sophisticated along with the stories and descriptions.  Its wonderful to listen to all of these ideas coming to life as pictures and stories! There has definitely been a contagious rainbow theme lately :).  Everyone has a different take on that theme however, and creates something unique!

Breakfast– Brown rice cakes with peanut butter and banana.

Lunch– Melted cheese quesadillas on whole wheat tortilla, fresh pineapple/pears, and fresh broccoli/pepper.

PM snack– Pretzels, block cheddar cheese, and fresh pineapple.

Wee Sprout– Fresh broccoli/pepper.

Have a lovely weekend.

Good Afternoon!

We incorporated UNO cards into our PREK1 sign in this morning! Children came to the sign in board where they chose two UNO cards and were asked to add them together. They could make the choice of using the colored counters as an aid in their addition problem or a few friends chose to just try and add it in their head.

K.CA.1-2: Solve real-world problems, objects, or drawings that involve addition and subtraction within 10. Demonstrate the equation (e.g. 5=3+2 and 5=4+1).

Group activity was the theme of the day today!  Everyone went from one activity to another, working together!  A group of friends worked on a “box town” project making fire stations to play with together.  Later, a group built a road and bridge system with cardboard loose parts problem solving as a team and practicing compromise.  There was a group that read stories together and another that practiced yoga together.  It was great to see so many cooperative and collaborative experiences unfold throughout the morning!

Happy 1st snow day of the season!

We started our morning by making music with instruments. We played the pianos and xylophones to hear the sounds they made.

IMG_8361(4)IMG_8366(4)IMG_8368(4)IMG_8373(3)

We then built with BounceBlocks. Our friends stacked them to make small towers they could stand on. We had 4 friends standing on towers by the habi-trail rails and we counted the number of blocks each friend was standing on.

IMG_8376(3)IMG_8378(4)IMG_8380(4)

Our friends made their way to the kitchen to help Miss Bekah make one of our favorite sensory items- play dough! Miss Bekah showed our friends the recipe. Our friends learned about the different ingredients and the measurements we needed to make the dough. We enjoyed being involved in the process and helping pour in the ingredients into the container. We manipulated our old batch of playdough while the new dough cooked on the stove. After it cooled, we all got a turn to engage with the new play dough!
