Good Afternoon!
The sign in board was full of PREK1 friends comparing shapes. There were four shapes that children observed and they had to choose one shape to write their name under that didn’t belong to the group. They all wrote their name under the circle as the other shapes had four sides while the circle has zero sides!
Later on in group, we read a book from our science area titled Dogs. We talked about nonfiction books and what they look like and what they offer us as a reader.
K.DA.1: Identify, sort, and classify objects by size, number, and other attributes. Identify objects that do not belong to a particular group and explain the reasoning used.
K.RL.3.1: Recognize familiar narrative text genres (e.g. fiction, nonfiction, fairytales, poems).

Our journals continue to evolve as kids develop. Even our youngest friends are moving into figurative representation, creating more diverse imagery and increasing vocabulary when talking about their journals.

We had a discussion about “imagination” this morning and how we can use it to create play spaces and story lines. We offered an “imagination table” today with a variety of loose parts to see if we could create imaginative places and stories with our play. Everything added was in the category of “loose parts” which means they are open ended without a specific purpose. This entices kids to use their imaginations in order to decide what the objects will become and how they will use them in play. This kind on imaginative play leads to creative thinking and social development.

We hope you enjoy a few more pictures from our day!
