Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a terrific weekend.

Today, we welcomed back Ellie! She’s going to be joining us for the next two weeks!

DSCN9607

Our imaginations were flowing this morning as many friends sat and created with magnatiles. There was an absolutely amazing tower that was built! Using their listening and communication skills, children worked together to build a tower that was as tall as Miss Rebekah! The group counted down from ten before they leveled the tower!

DSCN9608DSCN9626

Owen and Elliott worked on a 2-dimensional creation that spanned the length of the carpet. They made sure that each side was a mirror of itself.

DSCN9627DSCN9613

We were quite exploratory as we headed outside this morning. Many of us carried bug containers around, looking for different forms of life.

DSCN9634DSCN9641

We took this ‘nature’ aspect of our morning and transferred it to large group. Elizabeth expressed interest in reading a story that she brought from home. So, we read it! After learning about different ways to help the Earth (in the Lorax’s words..), we brainstormed ways to help our Earth and make sure we keep it clean. A couple keys points that were made:

1. “Don’t smoke! It’s bad for your lungs and it stinks!”

2. “Honk at someone if they’re littering.”

3. “Throw your popsicle away.”

Happy Friday!

*Second Reminder: Wee Friends will be closed starting Thursday, June 30th and will reopen on Monday, July 11th for our summer vacation. Thanks!

Today was Miss Katelyn’s last day with us! We are so thankful for everything that she contributed to our class over the last four weeks. We’re definitely going to miss her but we wish her all of the best!

DSCN9458

To start our morning, friends headed into different parts of the classroom. Often times in the morning, children go to their favorite spot of the house to get into their day!

It was pizza Friday! We started by separating all of the ingredients that children got to pick from. Something as easy as making homemade pizzas allows for a fabulous teachable moment.

There are many teachable moments here at Wee Friends when it comes to food. Everyday, we have Wee Sprouts which are offered after breakfast, all throughout the morning. A few of our favorite vegetables include but are not limited to cucumbers, peppers, and cherry tomatoes! You can never have too many vegetables so children are welcome to sit at the island and consume as many vegetables as they’d like.

Today, we made homemade pizzas. Children had the option to add sauce or have no sauce; cheese or no cheese; vegetables/fruit or no vegetables. We found that pineapple was quite a hit along with ham!

Healthy food habits are something that we try to display every single day.

“Food is not just fuel. Food is about family, food is about community, food is about identity. And we nourish all those things when we eat well.”

-Michael Pollan

Our before and after pictures of our pizza! I would’ve put an after picture of our plates but 95% of our plates were wiped clean; including our bananas and peppers! Wow! We have been a hungry bunch of children lately! Smile

We read a story out of the Angelina Ballerina storybook and discussed it afterwards. In the story, Angelina chooses to go against her mom and babysitter. She knows what she’s doing is wrong but goes ahead with it anyways. So, after the story was finished, friends raised their hands and relayed what they learned from the story. The overall consensus was that when you don’t tell the truth, there is a consequence (and ALWAYS listen to your parents! Winking smile)

Breakfast– Rice cakes with no nut butter and plums.

Lunch– Our homemade pizzas, banana, and peppers.

PM snack– Whole grain crackers and cheddar block cheese.

Wee Sprout– Peppers

We hope everyone enjoys their weekend! We’ll see everyone Monday.

Today we rolled out a bubble wrap runway! The classroom was quickly filled with the sounds of popping, crinkling, and giggles! Our friends enjoyed walking quickly from one end to the other or standing in one spot and stomping their feet. They learned that they could also achieve the popping sounds by squeezing the bubble wrap in their fists. Franklin worked at popping the bubbles under his fingers and said “pop!” every time he was successful!

Good Afternoon!

Elizabeth walked in and showed us her teeth! She lost two teeth in two days. She headed to the table where she illustrated how she saw herself Smile.

DSCN9344DSCN9345

The light table was requested today but this time, the colored gems were used! A group of children gathered around the light table and by working together, they separated the gems by color.

DSCN9335DSCN9337

Elliott took out the magnatiles and used his imagination to make a tower! Owen and Eren joined him and started working on their own creation. We’re always so proud of our work whether we’re at the art table or building with different materials. Friends often ask, “Can you take a picture of this please?”

DSCN9357DSCN9366

Even though the sun didn’t grace us with its presence, we had a splendid morning outside.

DSCN9375DSCN9380

The sandbox was a popular place as friends called, “Who wants ice cream?” Maddie was selling strawberry and chocolate which had her peers flocking to her!

DSCN9393DSCN9401

Clara continued her yoga theme by practicing her cartwheels and summersaults.

DSCN9414DSCN9416

In large group, we read a story from ‘The Classic Fairytale Treasure.” We read the first story which was ‘Beauty and the Beast’. Once we were done, we talked about what we had just read. I put two words up on the chalkboard: beauty and beast. Friends started raising their hands to voice their opinions about each character. As a group, we talked about different characteristics that both of these main characters exhibited.

I read the last sentence of the story which was, “And they lived happily..” to which the group finished, “Ever after.”

DSCN9451

Breakfast– Whole grain cheerios and PPC raspberries.

Lunch– Brown rice with chicken and butter, green grapes, and broccoli.

PM snack– Whole grain crackers with sunflower seed butter.

Wee Sprouts– Red pepper and green beans.

Have a lovely night!

Good Afternoon!

**Nice weather approaching—>please make sure that your child has weather appropriate clothing (shorts and t-shirts) AND a swimsuit as we will be having water days in the near future! Thank you!

Today, we welcomed Emma and Sophia back! They are going to be visiting today and Friday! It was great to have them back at Wee Friends.

Clara and Addi requested the light table where they chose to manipulate colored shape pieces. They decided to try and put all of the pieces together to cover the entire surface of the light table!

DSCN9287DSCN9291

The more they worked on it, the more friends ended up coming to help! We were able to use our trial and error skills along with our estimation skills. I heard things like:

“Do you think this piece will fit?”

“Look what I did here! The shapes fit together.”

“Oops. I don’t think that worked.”

DSCN9298DSCN9307

Our finished product!

“It’s about the process; not the product.”

DSCN9316

When we headed outside, we moved our bodies around quite a lot!

Miss Katelyn started a game where she used dice to determine the actions that friends had to do. For example, ‘run like a chicken’ or ‘crawl like a pig’.

DSCN9321DSCN9317

Clara started up her own yoga class where she demonstrated how to stretch and do certain yoga moves. Her peers watched as she switched from move to move.

DSCN9324DSCN9325

A few of our friends chose to do their own moves!

DSCN9326DSCN9328

Our large group was LARGE today so we bypassed the large group area and headed outside to the bridge where we read two different stories. This way, everyone was guaranteed to have their own personal space. Plus it was gorgeous outside!

The second story that we read was titled, “Beach”. We closed our eyes and listened to the words of the book. We imagined what it would be like to be at the beach today. One child said, “I can hear the waves crashing!”

We each shared a ‘beach’ story that we wanted to tell. Numerous votes were taken such as, “Raise your hand if you go straight into the water? Raise your hand if you go SLOWLY into the water?”

It was nice to read stories and feel the sun on our faces.

Lunch– Scrambled eggs with shredded cheese, whole wheat bread, oranges/apples, and cherry tomatoes.

Have a lovely evening. Hope everyone is able to enjoy this weather!

We tried a new sensory experience today: sea foam! It’s made with water, dish soap, corn starch, and liquid watercolor. We combined all the ingredients and mixed them in a blender. All the kids stopped what they were doing to watch and listen to the blender. It was a new, loud sound in our environment!

Our friends were hesitant to touch the mixture at first, but once they did they really got into it! They all loved dipping their hands into the tub, seeing how the foam stayed coated on when they pulled them back out, and then rubbing their messy hands together. Franklin enjoyed clapping his hands together and watching the foam splatter out. When they swirled their hands through the foam, it became even bubblier. Sophia looked for big bubbles in the tub that she could pop!
