WF Wednesday 6/4 HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEL!

012

Our fabulous Mel turns 29 today. And WEE love to celebrate birthdays!

We kept busy on this rainy day. We studied a new library collection of safari books. We painted and worked on the crocodile. That activity morphed into creating (“sticking the guts back in”)paper fish. We cleaned, gutted, seasoned and grilled a Pompano fishy. Many of our friends loved the grilled fish and gobbled it down. We read a book about giraffes which led us to measuring our own necks, and then the croc’s neck. We played a game in which we tried to use our human necks to reach down far enough and pick up fruit.  A few friends built a picnic table out of big wooden blocks.

Good Afternoon!

To start off this Tuesday, music was turned on and we let loose. Friends spun and turned in circles while singing ‘Wheels on the Bus!’

To add to the music, friends requested shakers along with different musical instruments. Maya was quite protective of her favorite blue tube Smile.

As Tate, Lucy, and Maya went down for a nap, Nora, Naia, and Saskia headed out for a lovely walk. We passed by different colored flowers, the mail truck, and a BIG tractor! We also each got to pick a dandelion.

Once we got back to Wee Friends, we stayed outside since it was b-e-a-utiful!

WF Tuesday 6/3 Nicole the Rolly Polly

024

Today was Emerson’s first official day at Wee Friends! Welcome, Emerson, Nicole and Jerry! We are so glad to have in the Wee Fam.

One of the big works today was the creation of a rolly polly habitat. As it turns out, Emerson is also a big fan of our beloved potato bugs. Well into our habitat hunt, Emerson expressed “I still miss my mom.” “Would you like to name one of the potato bugs after her?” asked a teacher. “That way, when you feel that aching for mom again, you can visit Nicole, check on her, and give her lots of love.” “SURE!” exclaimed Emerson in a high pitched voice filled with glee!

036

And so begins the creation of our first summer habit. We welcome our newest lovely namesake, Nicole the Rolly Polly. And her dear Emerson, of course.

Wee Sprouts: Cucumbers. Breakfast: Cinnamon toast with bananas. Lunch: chicken and avocado on flat bread, strawberries and carrots. Snack: Homemade fresh fruit/yogurt pops and nuts.

Happy Monday!

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

Between going outside, a little music play, and watching the rain come pouring from the sky, our day was filled with a little bit of everything! Well rounded days are the best! Smile

This afternoon, Nora brought up a discussion about what happens to the ground when rain falls. Nora’s statement was, “Look! The ground is melting!” We talked about how the ground doesn’t melt but that it just gets wet. After the rain stops, the ground will become dry again. We also sang, “Rain, rain, go away. Come again some other day!” Our song was unsuccessful.

We are always moving in the Wee World. We began today with the Blue Bus.  We are toying with the idea of taking an imagined safari this summer and we’ve begun our journey by collecting information from our Wee Friends. “What do you know about African Safaris?” was the question we posed. Our resident expert/world traveler, Marta, has been an invaluable resource. We’ll keep you abreast of our itinerary as the ball keeps rolling. –Laurie

Wee Sprouts: Carrots. Breakfast: Cereal and orange slices. Lunch: whole wheat pasta with marinara, orange slices and celery sticks. Snack: Apple slices and cottage cheese.

WF Friday 5/30

004

This morning, Elliott rode 2.9 miles from his house to Wee Friends.

013

Around 9am, we moved our classroom outdoors and kept very busy with all that our backyard offers Wee Friends. We weeded the garden, squished and washed with shaving cream, read books, built a fort, and saw a bee. When we headed indoors, we read The Bumblebee and the Robber by Eric Carle. We listened to and sang along to Laurie Berkner’s “Bumblebee Song”.  We created a bumblebee from linking shapes and again at the art table with clothespins. Celestia was back sneezing on her friends and enduring the many attacks that a crazy puppet invites.

Have a great weekend. –Laurie

Wee Sprouts: Carrots. Breakfast: Cheerios and bananas. Lunch: Farm fresh egg casserole, cauliflower/sweet peppers and strawberries. Snack: Rice cakes and peanut butter.

Happy Thursday! (Already?!?)

Today we say “Happy Birthday!” to our friend Naia! She turned two years old today! Smile

IMG_0419

Miss Melinda started off the morning with a little ‘follow the leader’ using shakers. We shook the shakers by our knees, belly, and arms! Friends listened so intently!

IMG_0392IMG_0406

Miss Laurie stopped by with Celestia (one of her many puppets). She had a cold and couldn’t talk very well. Lets just say that some of our friends were a little weary of a puppet who talked. Tate, however, enjoyed the closeness and conversation that Celestia had to offer. The longer they stayed, the more we accepted her Smile.

IMG_0409IMG_0413

Nora let everyone know that, “I love sun hats!” while Tate and his sister Sloane had some one on one time on the bench outside.

IMG_0432IMG_0436

There was not a cloud in the sky this morning. A few of our friends sat on the swing to take it all in.

IMG_0465IMG_0438IMG_0447

For breakfast, children had toast with butter and banana. Lunch consisted of rice with black beans, apples, and corn/green beans. PM snack was Colby Jack cheese and pears.
