I am very unhappy to report that AEP is estimating that it will be Thursday before our power is restored at Wee Friends.  I will keep everyone posted as I continue to call AEP each day to see if that changes any sooner.

I’m sure you have all heard in the news that Riverpark was very badly hit by the storm.  I am following the damage on our Riverpark Neighborhood Association Facebook page and the pictures are astounding. Just in our section of the 700-800 blocks (Jefferson to Wall), we had a line of winds that took down many large trees and the power lines with them.  So AEP is not just working on one issue, but I know of 3 separate power lines down within just a few block of us.  And there are more lines are down throughout the area.  There was a house on 23rd completely destroyed by the storm.  The pics are all from our neighborhood.

As a reminder for those with YMCA swimmers, Tuesday swim starts at 10:00 for those who can transport their own children to the class.  The YMCA class will not reimburse you for a missed class.  The Blue Bus was canceled today and Jennifer, will however, tack the class onto the end of the session so that you are not paying for a missed class.

Once again, I am so sorry for the inconvenience of this situation.  Thankfully, this is the first time we’ve ever experienced an extended closing due to weather related issues and we are blessed with just losing power and clearing debris.

Tami

WF/WWF Weather Policy and Vacation Reminder

Good Morning!

Wee Friends recognizes that delays and closings are horribly inconvenient.  However, we balance that with the safety of getting our staff to work and being able to get the street, sidewalks and stairs safe for our clients.  Hence, the 10:00 delay for nearly all public school snow days rather than the close.

Please note that parents are responsible for checking the news for school closings on snowy/icy mornings.  If the schools are closed for odd reasons (cold), please check to blog as that is going to be our means of communicating any delay or closing information.

I have tweaked our weather policy slightly so I wanted to share it:

Inclement Weather/ Emergency Closing Policy

Wee Friends will delay opening until 10:00 on any day that Mishawaka OR South Bend Schools are closed or delayed for weather.  If we feel it is necessary to CLOSE FOR THE DAY, we will post the closing on the blog by 8:00 a.m.

VACATION DAYS

We are closed:

Thursday and Friday, November 28-29 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Monday, December 23rd through Friday January 3rd for our 2 week Winter Break.  We will re-open on Monday, January 6th.

This information, as well as a handout outlining other WF policies as a yearly refresher, will be in your children’s cubbies tonight.

Thanks you for being part of Wee Friends!

Tami

Good Afternoon! Happy last day of September!

Tate and Maya started off their morning with floor time! It’s amazing to watch our baby friends interact. We’re growing every single day Smile.

Emma, Eren, and Eve ventured up the log house together this morning. This is the first time that all three friends have been up at the top without teacher help! They were so proud of themselves Smile.

We had a lot to choose from!

We ended the day by having Emma demonstrate what her new puppy does! Emma and her family got a brand new puppy over the weekend! Emmie sure had fun talking about her new doggie, ‘Gus’. Smile

Happy Monday!

The plan for farm this week is that Tami and Mindy will take Group C on Wednesday.  (This is tentative as we have a sick teacher today and we do need everyone well and a full staff to do field trips.)

Group C is:  Zoi, Clara, Leo, Eve, Emma, Eren and Daniel.

WF had a wonderful morning mixed with some teacher directed and child initiated explorations in Halloween math, life skills with Lizette our very large puppet, stories, and lots of building!  We also had a special guest as Zoi’s Great Grandma shared our morningSmile

We also had the blue bus this morning.

As we headed outside, the trampoline was an option for kids to partake in.

IMG_8855IMG_8853

We did a great job waiting for our name to be called.

Good Afternoon!

Our day was full of smiles and laughter. Our numbers were lower than normal which allowed friends to bond with one another. Even with the age difference, our older friends LOVE to interact with the babies. Eren gave numerous kisses to the babies all day long.

WF Thursday 9/26 Math in the House

061

We honed in on math FABS today. Lisa offered friends a basket filled with plastic skulls, spiders, pumpkins, snakes and mini-cauldrons. Using ice cube trays as a graph,  they counted, sorted, identified more and less, one/many and counted up to ten objects. Some friends wrote the numbers on paper. Math FABS: K.1.7 – Find the number that is one more than or one less than any whole number up to 10. K.1.6 – Count, recognize, represent, name and order a number of objects (up to 10). K.1.8 – Use correctly the words one/many, none/some/all, more/less and most/least.

037

022

Elizabeth and Sophie built a long road that led to a castle.

044

Typically, Aislinn and Owen begin their day bonding over Magna-Tiles, Trios or other building/counting materials.

004

Max and Elliott spent much of their morning work time designing 3D creations.

041042

048057

Another example of great math work happening through play: Marina led her friends as they sorted, stacked and organized familiar household materials. And then they worked on their laptops.

060

How do work on math at your house?

Wee Sprouts: Cassie’s tomatoes. Breakfast: Oatmeal and apple slices. Lunch: Brown rice with beef, broccoli and orange slices. Snack: Homemade wheat bread and peanut butter.

WF Wednesday 9/25

*FYI-There will not be a farm trip this week!

048

Yesterday a friend asked “What is goop?” We discussed goop. It’s texture and feel. We compared and contrasted goop and other not-goopy things. Today the answer revealed itself as friends gooped it up at the art table. With goopy glue, cardboard and bottle caps, friends created art.

024

In the music area, we read Margie Palatini’s  Piggie Pie and created goopy soup. Using our imaginations (and the rain stick as a spoon),  friends cooked up some pretty goopy soups!

034

Friends are still interested in matching letters to words.

022

Lone Star Lizette made a visit and joined her friends as they listened to Lisa read Hands Are Not For Hitting. Lisa, Lizette and friends discussed lots of ways to use hands in a safe and friendly way.

050

We use hands to build together.

051

And write.

053

And play.

Wee Sprouts: Carrots. Breakfast: Corn Flakes and bananas. Lunch: Refried bean quesadillas, tomatoes and apple slices. Snack: Peanuts and Craisins,

Have a great day.

Good Afternoon!

Our morning was spent outside where friends gathered in the sandbox and did cannon balls from the top to the bottom! It was fun to watch as children took turns jumping down into the sandbox! We all had smiles on our faces Smile

IMG_8693IMG_8707

One of our favorite activities is to ride the small cars down the hill. We made sure to watch out for our other friends as we came rolling down the hill. Our balance and control were sure tested a few times Smile.

IMG_8718IMG_8743

For breakfast, children had cheerios and apples. Lunch consisted of hummus on tortillas, cantaloupe, and corn. PM snack was string cheese and whole grain crackers.

Have a great night!
