Good afternoon!

We had a very busy morning. We started our day by exploring the liquid squares with our feet. We also made music with shakers and bells.

We then made our way to the kitchen to engage with some playdough. We were given both an uncolored playdough piece and a red playdough piece to play with. Some of us chose to mix the pieces while others chose to play with them separately. We used a variety of tools to manipulate the playdough.

Outside, we rode our bikes down the hill, practiced our throwing skills in the grass area, and expressed our creativity at the art center.

Good afternoon!

It was a color mixing morning!

Today we explored freshly made yellow and blue playdough.  Several friends exclaimed “the play dough is still warm!” which added interest to their experience.  Everyone enjoyed the possibilities of using the two colors.  Some friends wanted to keep the colors separate so they could make multicolored creations. Others loved kneading and mixing the dough, delighted to see it turn green.  Adrian was especially interested in the color mixing side of things.  In addition to making green he also wanted to make blue/green and yellow lime green.  He enjoyed having a multitude of colors and hues.  Mixing the colors works well when the dough is squished, squeezed and rolled together.  This activity not only allows us to explore color science but also gives those fine motor muscles a great work out leading to strong hand writing skills later on.

We also enjoyed exploring open ended loose parts play opening our imaginations to unlimited possibilities!

IMG_3439IMG_3447

Many of us experimented with rubber bands and peg boards allowing us to explore a multitude of geometric shapes.

Happy Friday!

Our friends began their morning engaged independently in an activity.  Arthur used the loose part bowls and balls and added a ball to each of his bowls after lining them up.  He then took the ball to the mixer in housekeeping to use while mixing them up.  Emily was engaged in dress up adding a scarf first and then a patient gown to wrap around her head.  Eleanor explored rings in each of her hands and her crinkle book.  Arthur and Eliza were climbing together on the habi-trail by walking up the slide, around to the stairs and down repeatedly.

Friday’s are always a special day when you can watch the lawn being mowed.  Everyone enjoyed watching it happen.  After a bit, Emily asked for the drums.  She, Eliza and Eleanor engaged in making beats and sounds on those, while Arthur and Dax continued watching out the window on the lawn mowing process and all the different tools he would use.

IMG_1651(1)IMG_1652(1)IMG_1655IMG_1658IMG_1656IMG_1659

We then headed outside.  We enjoyed water play on this very warm morning.  We had a variety of sea animals to use in our water at the table.  We also added water to the upper sandbox and Dax was excited to add sand to his to make wet sand to mold into something and feel the different texture in his hands.  Eleanor engaged in her toys on the blanket.

Good afternoon!

To start off our morning, Miss Bekah invited our friends to go into the kitchen and play with our bird seed/rice sensory table. We took turns hiding a plastic ant and a salamander in the mixture and having other friends find them. We also used different cups and scoops to scoop or pour out the mixture.

IMG_1559IMG_1561(1)IMG_1557IMG_1568IMG_1564

After we finished with our sensory play, we made our way back to the reading steps to engage with some silk scarves. Emily helped Eleanor take the scarves out of the box. Friends laid out the scarves or held them up to their face since they are see through.

IMG_1586IMG_1580IMG_1587IMG_1582(1)IMG_1588

We then went outside to do a variety of activities. We played in the sandbox with different materials like a ramp and scoops. We used chalk to decorate our sidewalks. We also rode the teeter totter, which is always a favorite activity.

Happy Thursday!

It was an experimental morning making bubbles!  We mixed colored water and soap and then found different ways to aerate the water to make bubbles.  We could use an eye dropper to pump air into the water making larger bubbles.  We also could use a whisk to whip up a bubble foam.  Most of us found the foam particularly appealing so worked on this technique.  Several of us at the table decided our mixtures were starting to look like a witches brew, so played an imaginative game of brewing witches potions.

Good Afternoon!

We had an engaging indoor morning in imaginative play using moon dough explore new ideas.  Several friends created a bakery which Milllie named “Carl’s Café”.  They pretended to make all kinds of delicious desserts pressing the dough into shape molds and cutting them up to serve!  Not everyone was a baker.  We had a couple of hard working pasta chefs as well!

IMG_3115IMG_3124IMG_3129

Outside there was a lot of help in the garden!  Many friends helped to pick vegetables for lunch.  We got our first zucchini today and everyone was excited to try it at lunch.  The zucchini was the only veggie that made it to lunch since the kids chose to eat all of the green beans and pea pods straight away!

IMG_3156IMG_3165IMG_3157

We collectively decided that the radishes were too strong a flavor for us so we decided to play with them in the mud kitchen.  We washed the veggies and prepared them for imaginary soups and stir fries.

Breakfast: Oatmeal with fresh watermelon

Lunch: farm fresh scrambled eggs with fresh pineapple, banana, red peppers and fresh picked zucchini from the garden

Good Afternoon!

Sorry for the accidental send earlier without a description of our activities for the day!

Today our friend Hannah chose to engage in the musical instruments.  She began with the shakers and bells.  Several friends joined in the activity and we were busy shaking our bells and shakers to make beautiful sounds.  Ben and Eliza engaged in making beautiful sounds on the pianos and xylophones.

IMG_1513IMG_1514IMG_1518IMG_1523IMG_1524

We then headed into the kitchen to work on many skills with the pegs and pegboards.  Everyone used a variety of different colors and if they knew the color they said it to a teacher or if they are still working on their color recognition, a teacher said the color they were adding to their board or tower they built for them.

IMG_1531IMG_1533IMG_1535IMG_1530
