Good Afternoon!

It was a collage day today! Indoors this morning we added to our big paper collage we have been working on.  We used black torn paper to create a border and then added beads.  Many of our friends liked adding the beads as part of the border.  It was a wonderful collaborative effort!  Our friend Cassie was instrumental in the collage work today!

Outside we worked on individual nature collages using objects we found in the play area.  Many of us used the helicopter like maple seeds.  As trees had been trimmed today we had the opportunity to use a variety of leaves and sticks.  We even had leaves that came in a lovely shade of maroon!

Several friends explored unfix cubes this morning.  We practiced adding from one to ten.  We put the lengths of one through ten  together in a line which gave us the visual aspect of what numbers look like as real units.  These kinds of explorations help us recognize groups of numbers at a glace.  We develop a more in depth and real life concept of numbers and amounts when we have this visual information as a reference in mind.

Good afternoon!

This morning we used our hammer to pound on the Duplo counter, read books on the reading step, stacked the wooden blocks on top of each other, pushed our truck around the classroom, placed a band aid on our stuffed animal, and practiced sitting up some more.

IMG_0068IMG_0077IMG_0080IMG_0084IMG_0089IMG_0091

We then made our way to the kitchen to manipulate some play dough. We used different tools like popsicle sticks and cookie cutters to cut into the dough. Paige shared that she was “making a nest for the eggs”.

IMG_0102IMG_0101IMG_0098IMG_0099IMG_0103

While we were outside, we used our imaginative skills in the play kitchen. We also rode the teeter totter with our sibling and on our own. We also exhibited our artistic skills by drawing with markers on our papers.

Happy Monday!

*Wee Friends will be closed Monday, May 29 for Memorial Day.

**FIRST REMINDER: Wee Friends will be closed for Summer Vacation starting WEDNESDAY, JUNE 28 through FRIDAY, JULY 7. We will reopen Monday, July 10.

We read one of our favorite books during K/PREK1 titled, ‘A Child’s Calendar’. It goes through each month of the year and what happens in each month. This week, we’ll focus on calendars and clocks and why/how we use them!

One of our wee friends has been asking if we could set up a rain forest habitat play area, so today we tried to base our round table activities on this idea.  Each tray was set up in a unique way for water play with the idea of rain forest in mind.  Our friends could create imaginary interactive play with the animals or containers.  They could sort colors or practice fine motor skills using the eye dropper.  There were all sorts of pretend games going on from snake families swimming in a pond to potion making.  The table was simply designed to foster creativity and sensory stimulation using a theme that our class room was interested in.

Happy Friday!

We enjoyed a variety of activities today both inside and out!

IMG_1020(2)IMG_1013(2)IMG_1031(2)IMG_1036(2)IMG_1034(2)

This morning we enjoyed the beautiful weather and made some outdoor water colors!  While we painted maple tree seeds (helicopters as the kids call them) were floating down from the trees onto the art table.  Millie asked “Can we paint these?” to which I replied “Of course!”.  Everyone at the table gathered the seeds after that so they could paint some too

The hunt for bugs continued.  There was an exciting moment when one of “our”  lady bugs was spotted in the garden!

We tasted purple and yellow cauliflower wee sprouts today which was a hit for many Wee Friends!

Happy Friday!

This morning we had a dance party in dress-up clothes.  We really love dancing to the Frozen song, Let It Go, especially while we are dressed up.

IMG_9958IMG_9962

We then headed into the kitchen to engage in a sensory experience with corn starch and water.  We poured our cup of water into the corn starch and watched to see what happened.  We found that we could see the water, our liquid on top, but then when we felt it with our hands in our bowl it was solid at the bottom.  When we pulled up the solid mixture, it would run through our hands like water. We loved exploring it!

IMG_9973IMG_9976IMG_9977IMG_9978IMG_9979

We then headed outside to engage in our favorite activities and enjoy the sunshine.

Happy Thursday!

This morning at the round table we explored loose parts.  We had four trays, each with a different shape theme in its components.  two trays were all round things, another square and rectangular, a third hexagonal shapes.  The imaginative play these things were used for was open ended.  Some sorted by color, notifying others that they had “organized the tray!”, some bought and sold goods, others created home made food items.

IMG_0983(2)IMG_0928(2)IMG_0940(2)IMG_0931(2)IMG_0934(2)IMG_0932(2)

Several friends enjoyed a game of “Simon Says” outside today!  This was a game both Wee and wee wee friends could all play together.  The game continued for that majority  of our outside time with different friends coming and going.  Its amazing to see this level of social maturity among children so young and of such varying ages!  They took turns being Simon and were able to problem solve without need for teacher regulation!

IMG_1007(2)IMG_0995(2)IMG_0990(2)

It was finally time to free our lady bugs.  Everyone loved watching to see when they would find the open hole in the top of their habitat!  One found the hole right away, which was very exciting!  Friends followed the ladybug as it explored all over the garden box.

Good afternoon!

This morning, our friends engaged in all different kinds of activities. Paige was busy using her imaginative skills in the play kitchen. Emily asked Ms. Jena to help her tie the scarf around her head. In the front area of the classroom, Arthur played with the rainbow, Eliza went down the Habi-trail slide, and Ben tossed the ball with friends. Eleanor continued to practice sitting up with support and is doing great!

IMG_9888IMG_9895IMG_9898IMG_9901IMG_9902IMG_9915(1)

We made our way over to the kitchen to paint with Q-Tips and watercolors! We all made beautiful drawings with strokes of all sorts of colors.

IMG_9927IMG_9925(1)IMG_9923IMG_9952

We then headed outside after we were done with our paintings. We played in the sandbox with different containers, scooped pea gravel in the rock area, threw balls in the grass, played Simon Says with our friends, and gave hugs to our older sibling.

Good Afternoon!

We started our morning on the habi-trail.  Almost all of the friends enjoyed sitting together before going down the slide.

IMG_9836IMG_9839IMG_9840

Eleanor rolled from her left side to her back and then back again to her left side to play with her toys on her playmat.

IMG_9848IMG_9847IMG_9846

We then engaged in the rice and bird seed sensory table.  We all worked on our hand-eye coordination, scooping and pouring skills as we used a variety of different scoops/containers to scoop up the mixture and pour from into one of the bowls or cups.

IMG_9862IMG_9864IMG_9865IMG_9870IMG_9869IMG_9876

We then headed outside to engage in more scooping and pouring of sand, riding bikes and exploring a worm with a few of our senses.

Good afternoon!

This morning we worked on a collaborative collage in the art center.   We got to choose from an assortment of patterned paper and used scissors to cut it into pieces of many different shapes.  We glued the paper to a large piece of cardboard working together to create an interesting collection of shapes and colors.  We also added colored glue, tracing the shapes and lines with it or creating new shapes on top of our collage.  It turned our big and colorful!
