Good Afternoon!

We began our morning by building with Magna-Tiles.  Friends were very focused as they were creating their Magna-Tile building creations.  Several friends added Little People to their buildings.

Eliza and Hannah were busy rolling/tossing their balls with Miss Bekah.

Since the air temperature with the real feel was too cold for our little bodies, we brought snow inside for us to experience.  We added animals, Little People, vehicles and a bowl to enhance our play in it.  Several friends mentioned their hands were cold when they were finished playing in it, so we warmed them up.

It is cold outside!

IMG_3489(1)

Despite the cold, our friends were eager to go out as soon as they could. They had more fun with making a snowman, riding the sleds, and rolling it into snowballs.

IMG_3415(1)IMG_3417(1)

A few of our friends got out the puzzles this morning to start their day. It is fun watching them slowly work their way up to the increasingly difficult ones. You can see them trying to problem solve on their faces.

IMG_3481(1)IMG_3474(1)IMG_3456(1)

We brought a little bit of the beach inside through our kinetic sand play. Our friends selected gems and beads to add for decorations. There were cups and measuring utensils they used to form shapes into their creations.

Breakfast: Cheerios & banana

Lunch: Brown rice w/ beef, green beans, & pineapple

PM Snack: Triscuits & peanuts

Wee Sprouts: fresh green beans

Happy Snowy Wednesday!

This morning we began by going in several different directions in the classroom.  Hannah and Paige engaged with the bulldozer and airplane.  Paige added Little People to hers and was having them do cannonballs into the basket.  Dax engaged with tossing the balls, Eliza was busy putting the color rings over her head and Ben and Emily were engaged looking at books on the reading step.

IMG_5528IMG_5531IMG_5524IMG_5510IMG_5521IMG_5539

We then danced to several songs that had us Freeze our bodies when the music stopped.  We love those songs and they were:  Freeze dance by Greg and Steve, The Wiggy, Wiggy Wiggles by Hap Palmer and the Party Freeze Game.

IMG_5542IMG_5543IMG_5544

Eleanor was focused on her brother, Arthur while he was sitting near her shaking her rattle on her playmat.  She also was listening to the crinkling sound she was making with her hands as she felt her book.

Terrific Tuesday!

K.RF.3.1: Identify and produce rhyming words.

Our Kindergarteners practiced their rhyming words this morning through their sign-in. They had a container with eight objects in it. They picked an object, and then came up with a word that rhymes with it. Some of the words they selected were real words, but some were made up. They channeled their inner Dr. Seuss.

“It is not what you do for your children, but what you have taught them to do for themselves, that will make them successful human beings.”

-Ann Landers

Our friends were drawn to the table today to explore the tubes, elbows, and pompom balls set out for them. They quickly became little inventors. They experimented with creating different structures, and even working together to make a large creation. Over time, they discovered they could blow into it to make musical instruments. With continued play, they also found out they could talk into it for their friends to hear.

This activity is a prime example of the power of letting children learn and explore on their own. They came up with so many creative ways to build and learn.

Good Afternoon!

This morning we created a colorful drawing of dots with our dot markers.  We all loved the loud noise we made as we dabbed the markers onto our paper on the trays.

IMG_5465IMG_5467IMG_5468IMG_5470IMG_5471IMG_5473

Miss Tina brought out the waffle blocks from the kitchen for the friends to use for building.  We worked to connect them together to make a line, a cube and create a pattern with them.

IMG_5477IMG_5478IMG_5479IMG_5481IMG_5483

We then bundled up into our winter gear and headed outside for some fresh air. Our friends love to see and interact with their siblings outside.  We explored the little bit of snow we found and went down the slide.

IMG_5492IMG_5494IMG_5498IMG_5499IMG_5501

Good Afternoon!

This morning we began by taking care of a need for our baby dolls.  We worked at getting them dressed or wrapped up in a blanket.

IMG_5407IMG_5408IMG_5416IMG_5410

We then headed over to climb into or on top of the plastic blocks.

IMG_5434IMG_5435IMG_5436IMG_5437IMG_5438IMG_5439

Most of us engaged in an alphabet puzzle with Miss Bekah.  Several friends noticed the alphabet on the wall.  We sang the ABC song as Miss Bekah pointed to each letter.  She then went into the kitchen and we worked together to complete an alphabet puzzle by matching the picture on our letter with the picture on the board.  Once complete, we went through the letters again to work on identifying the object on each piece.

Ben and Dax engaged with the cars and drove them down the ramps with Miss Tina while the rest of us were working on the alphabet puzzle.

IMG_5440IMG_5441IMG_5442

Breakfast:  Whole grain wheat bread toasted with butter and cinnamon/sugar mixture and fresh oranges.

Lunch:  Whole grain wheat pasta with butter and red beans, fresh oranges/apple slices and peas.

Afternoon Snack:  Whole milk yogurt and watermelon.

Wee Sprouts:  Cucumbers.

Have a great evening!

Marvelous Monday!

IMG_3125(1)IMG_3140(1)

We are discussing shapes this week. We brought out the shape manipulatives for our friends to practice identifying. A few of our friends took the activity farther by sorting and creating images with the various shapes.

IMG_3118(1)IMG_3133(2)

The snow outside has inspired us to bring the joy of it inside too. We covered our trays in shaving cream. Ms. Linsey added cars and Magna Tiles to the trays to recreate what it looks like when snow falls and covers our world.

IMG_3158(1)IMG_3161(1)

The snow has been few and far between this winter. We had to take advantage of it before it melts again. We had friends who threw it up in the air, but eating it is their favorite snowy pastime.

Breakfast: Whole wheat English Muffins w/ PB & Pears

Lunch: Whole wheat pasta w/ beans, carrots, and watermelon

PM Snack: Whole milk yogurt & graham crackers

Wee Sprouts: Fresh carrots

Happy Friday!

Emily and Dax loved watching Eleanor share smiles and enjoyed talking to her.

IMG_5355IMG_5401

Our friends gathered in the front to build with Magna-Tiles. Arthur created a cube out of various square tiles and inserted different animals inside!

IMG_5357IMG_5364IMG_5362

We made our way over to the kitchen to paint with primary colors. Miss Bekah explained to them that they could mix their paint colors to create new ones, just like in “Mouse Paint” by Ellen Stoll Walsh! Eliza and Ben loved getting to participate in creating art with their friends.

IMG_5380IMG_5383IMG_5381IMG_5382IMG_5385IMG_5384IMG_5387IMG_5391

Yay It’s Friday!

It has been a very grey week, but our friends have stayed busy with plenty of activities.

IMG_3042(1)IMG_3043(1)

Ms. Linsey pulled out a measurement activity. They selected a card that had pictures of a pencil, snake, and worm that were all various sizes. They lined up cubes next to the picture to see how many it would take to be the same length as the object.

IMG_3054(1)IMG_3070(1)IMG_3058(1)

Our friends used their exploration and investigation skills. We brought out the light table. Millie and her friends laid down a circle mat and found a jar of gems. They filled each circle with the gems to discover how many would fit in each.

Meanwhile, Daniel and William examined our paperweights with their magnifying glasses. William discovered that he could make his eyes appear larger when he held his magnifying glass to his eye.

Breakfast: Brown rice cakes w/ PB & pineapple

Lunch: Whole wheat flatbread w/ hummus, cucumbers/sugar snap peas, bananas

PM Snack: Goldfish, string cheese, & banana

Wee Sprouts: Sugar snap peas
