Look how these two cuties have grown in the past year!

Daniel and Bo thought it was a good day to do yoga. They got out the yoga guide and tried out the poses. There was a lot of giggling and falling down. Future practice may be in order.

We discovered a magnet kit downstairs. Our friends came to the table to explore all the components on the tray. With their magnets, they were able to make a chain of paperclips, watch how metal shavings move through the sand, and discover how a magnet can make a compass spin. In experimenting with the magnets, they also discovered how some parts of magnets will repel each other instead of sticking.

Good Afternoon!

This morning we began with our musical shakers.  We shook them to make music together.  Miss Bekah then sang the song, Shake Your Sillies Out as we shook our shakers.

IMG_5324IMG_5326IMG_5325

It was time to explore a different bin in our sensory table.  The teachers switched the corn/bean sensory bin out for the moon sand bin. We were busy scooping, pouring and making molds with the different scoops.  We also explored the variety of sea animals in it.

IMG_5332IMG_5333IMG_5328IMG_5331

We then headed outside for some fresh air.  We were busy going down the slide, driving trucks around on different surfaces and cooking in the housekeeping kitchen.

Good Afternoon!

Several friends began their morning, sitting on the reading step looking at a book independently or with another friend.

IMG_5280IMG_5281

A few of us grabbed a bean bag to shake while listening to music and dancing.

IMG_5292IMG_5295

Arthur asked Miss Bekah to play with a ball with him.  A couple friends joined in at first, but everyone joined in eventually.  We worked on our listening, turn taking and patience as we waited to hear Miss Bekah call our name letting us know it was our turn to roll our ball to her and then she would roll it back to us.

IMG_5312IMG_5313IMG_5310IMG_5314

While we were waiting for lunch to be ready, we sat and listened to Miss Tina read us The Napping House by Audrey Wood.

Good Afternoon!

Throughout the morning, our three kindergarteners came to the island to sign in where they tested their syllable knowledge! They each had twelve clip cards that they worked with. Once they figured out the number of syllables for each word using one of the two methods, they clipped the number using a clothespin.

K.RF.3.2: Orally segment words into syllables.

Making catapults was on the agenda today for our K/PREK1 group friends! Making a catapult proved to be challenging but they persevered and once they were done assembling with their catapult, they tested it out using a variety of materials from around the classroom that were smaller in size!

IMG_2838(1)IMG_2843(1)IMG_2842(1)

Miss Kim documented how far each item went using the catapults. The chart is on the front door if you’re curious to see which item made it the furthest!

Good Afternoon!

This morning we danced to a song by Hap Palmer called The Wiggy, Wiggy Wiggles.  The friends loved it so much we danced to it several times.

IMG_5256IMG_5254IMG_5260

We then headed into the kitchen for a sensory experience with playdough.  Friends used cookie cutter to cut the shapes of them out, used their rolling pins to poke holes into it and used their craft stick to pick up their entire ball of playdough off of their tray.

IMG_5243IMG_5244IMG_5249IMG_5248IMG_5241IMG_5250

Even though, it was cold and dreary looking outside, we bundled up and headed outside.  We were happily engaged with the Little People and trucks, climbing up the climbing house and exploring the small trucks in the rock area.

Hello Busy Tuesday!

We had a ton of fun exploring and experimenting with all sorts of items.

IMG_2731(1)IMG_2761(1)

Our friends have been interested in making jewelry. Today, we got out the costume jewelry to explore. This never gets old because there is always something new to discover hidden on the trays.

IMG_2741(1)IMG_2735(1)IMG_2736(1)

Water exploration has also been a big fascination with our friends. Ms. Linsey was very kind to bring in items from her home to enhance their play/learning. Each of them were given a container of blue water. They added rocks to their cups and discovered the phenomenon of water displacement. Ms. Linsey explained this to them as they continued to add their rocks. Of course, they used the various containers to transfer the water back and forth. Although this seems like play, they are learning about volume while experimenting. They could have easily done this activity all day.

Breakfast: Whole wheat English muffin & apples

Lunch: Whole wheat tortillas w/ shredded cheese, watermelon, & carrots

“If we are going to empower our kids to truly ‘be the change,’ then they have to understand that change involves a lot of risk-taking, mistakes, and hard work.”

-Martin Luther King Jr.

It is one of our missions here at WF to empower our children to explore, and test the limits of what they are capable of doing. Mistakes too, are everyday learning opportunities to grow. We hope these experiences will embolden them to become the change in the world they will someday inherit. We know it will be better with them in it.

Breakfast: Oatmeal Squares & Oranges

Lunch: Whole wheat pasta w/ marinara sauce, cucumbers/bell peppers

PM Snack: Yogurt w/ granola

Wee Sprouts: Yellow bell pepper & cucumber

Happy Friday!

This morning we headed into the kitchen to engage in the corn/bean sensory table.  We explored the gourds and corn cobs in it as well as working on our scooping and pouring skills with the variety of cups and scoops.

IMG_5174IMG_5173IMG_5172IMG_5175IMG_5176IMG_5177IMG_5178IMG_5179

Arthur and Dax were busy building with the wood blocks.  They would use their hollow block and put something inside and then cover it up.

IMG_5185IMG_5186

Emily and Paige were using their imaginative play skills as Emily was doing Paige’s nails using the doctor’s syringe.  Emily then said she was “writing” with it.  Hannah was intrigued and watched intently to see what she was doing.

IMG_5187IMG_5188

Our friend Eliza is working on her balance skills as she stood with out assistance. It won’t be long before she is walking.

IMG_5183

Breakfast:  Whole grain brown rice cakes with peanut butter and fresh apple slices.

Lunch:  Turkey lunch meat on whole grain wheat tortillas, watermelon and sweet potatoes.

Afternoon Snack:  Whole grain Goldfish crackers, mozzarella cheese stick and fresh apple slices.

Have a great weekend!

Happy Friday!

One of our favorite stories in our MACK collection is the ‘Tortoise and the Hare: A Fairytale To Help You Find Balance’—we read it for K/PREK1 group today. It’s the classic story of Tortoise and the Hare but with a twist. Each character lives their live very differently. The Hare moves fast in everything she does while the Tortoise takes his sweet time moving throughout his day. At the end of the story as they are finishing their race, they realize that they can take aspects of each others life and adapt it to their own life. We love the moral of the story and enjoy watching their relationship evolve throughout the story. If you’re looking to add a new book with a great story line, we highly recommend this book!

Watercolors occupied our morning! As children came to the art table, they got the opportunity to use crayons and water color on their paper. First, they drew with crayons and once they were done, they put water color over their drawing which brought out the crayon drawing! Most friends did this on several pieces of paper—we had so many creations that were done!

IMG_2614(1)IMG_2608(1)IMG_2591(1)

Several children explored the welcome activity throughout the morning. Friends took pictures of animals and sorted them into three different categories based on where the animals lived: zoo, farm, and house.
