Good afternoon!

This morning we engaged in different kinds of dress up. Some of our friends, like Hannah and Dax, tried different hats on. Other friends, like Paige and Emily, put on a fancy dress and silk scarf to dance while listening to the Let It Go song from the movie Frozen.

We had a great time using the Habi-trail slide as a huge ramp to slide our bears and balls down.  We also used the rails of the Habi-trail to hold onto, to help us maintain our balance while standing on our big blocks.

Outside we enjoyed playing in the sandbox, exploring the playhouse, and riding the teeter-totter with our friends.

Breakfast: Whole grain Cheerios with fresh pear slices.

Lunch:Whole grain brown rice with shredded turkey, watermelon, and orange bell pepper slices.

Afternoon Snack: Sunflower seeds with Wheat Thins crackers.

Good Afternoon!

Our 12 week FAB cycle has come to an end so we’ve taken this week to go back and extend or reteach FAB’s from earlier on in the school year. Today’s kindergarten sign in focus was shapes, specificially the number of sides on a shape. There were four groups: shapes with 0 sides, 2 sides, 3 sides, and 4 sides. They had to draw as many shapes as they could in each category. When they came to the 2 sided shape category, a few of them shared, “There aren’t any shapes with 2 sides!”

The welcome activity was popular as children took turns sorting holiday colored manipulatives. Using a plate that was split into three sections, friends sorted the materials by color.

Later on in the morning, magnatiles were put out at the circle table but with an added feature: bells! Several children built a magnatile structure but used the bells to add detail to their creature.

Breakfast– Toasted oatmeal squares with fresh apples.

Lunch– Brown rice with shredded turkey and butter, fresh watermelon, and fresh pepper/cucumber.

PM snack– Birthday treat: homemade banana bread, starfruit, and cheese slices.

Wee Sprout– Fresh cucumber/pepper.

Good Afternoon!

Today we celebrated a birthday!  Our friend Arthur turned 2 years old.  We are so happy we got to celebrate your special day with you.

We were engaged this morning with the Zany Zoo Activity box, going down the slide, building with Duplos, watching the fish swim and talking to them and playing music while shaking the jingle bells.

We then headed into the kitchen to build with pegs on our peg boards.  Friends were busy creating tall colorful towers.

Breakfast:  Kix cereal and fresh pear slices.

Lunch:  Peanut butter on whole grain wheat bread, fresh apple slices, corn and a slice of cheddar cheese.

Afternoon Snack:  Goldfish crackers and sweet gherkins pickles (Arthur’s birthday treat) and mozzarella cheese stick.

Good Afternoon!

This morning we were busy manipulating playdough.  We used our hands to squeeze it and pull many small pieces from our big piece of playdough.  We also used several tools to flatten it or make lines in it using rolling pins and hammers.  We then used a cookie cutter to cut it into shapes.

We then headed to the block area to build with Magna-Tiles.

Happy Friday!

The effort put forth by the three kindergarteners this morning was amazing! Each child sat at the island, adding places to their map for anywhere from 10 minutes to 30 minutes. They had one job: add places to their map that they’ve seen in the community. Places that were added to their maps ranged from fire stations to restaurants (McDonalds, Chicory, Buffalo Wild Wings) to the zoo and pool and a tree farm. These were places that had meaning to them so they added great detail to their drawings. They all added their house onto the map so they talked about ways to get to each place from their house.

Social Studies: K.3.2 Identify maps and globes as ways of representing Earth and understand differences between a map/globe.

In K/PREK1 group, we read ‘All The World’ before adding words to our web. I asked the group members to share some places that we would see on a map. At first, they added places like McDonalds and the doctor but later, extended their reach by sharing places like Atlantic Ocean, Smokey Mountains, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and the Artic!

Earlier in the week, children painted a paper towel roll white and today, we continued to add things to it! Children could add a scarf, eyes, nose, and mouth to their snowman. We can’t wait to hang them up!

We were finally able to get outside this morning which our bodies loved! It was a great way to end the week.

Good Afternoon!

This morning we were busy exploring the different animals and using our imaginative play skills while engaged with some beanie babies Miss Tami brought in for us to add to our classroom.

Dax, Emily and Hannah then went to build with the variety of loose part wooden pieces on the stackers and balance.  They would fill their stackers up with a variety of pieces, take them off and start all over again.

Eliza was exploring what was inside each of the Peek-a-blocks and shaking them, while Paige was flying her Little People to go on a trip.
