Good afternoon and happy first day of December!
For our kindergarten sign in activity, we used a 2-D map where we focused on our city and state as well as surrounding states that touch Indiana! All three kindergarteners live in different cities so it was fun to talk about that. One kindergartener wanted to write a lower case ‘i’ for Indiana which prompted a conversation about using uppercase letters for all cities and states. At this age, it’s challenging for children to distinguish between cities, states, and countries (such big and vast ideas!). So, we’ve been working on becoming familiar with these words as well as identifying each.

We brought out ‘Here and There’ again today for K/PREK1 group but today, we focused on ‘nature’ for various countries such as Peru, Canada, Morocco, and Borneo. We found all of these countries on the map and were able to see where they are in comparison to the United States! Friends were curious about anacondas so looked them up on the internet and found a few pictures—wow! Let’s just say that no group members would want to come face to face with an anaconda!
