Good Afternoon!

**We will need updated shot records by the end of the year for each child. If you’re unsure of whether or not your child needs them, feel free to ask a teacher.**

Daniel solved three word problems for his kindergarten sign in. He used puff balls to help him figure out the total of the addition problems.

K.CA.1-2: Solve real- world problems, objects, or drawings that involve addition and subtraction within 10. Demonstrate the equation (e.g. 5=2+3 and 5=4+1).

IMG_0209(1)IMG_0214(1)

Each K/PREK1 member got their own laminated story problem. We read the story problem together and afterwards, we wrote the two numbers in the problem that they were either going to add together or subtract. They used unifix cubes to help them add the two numbers together or subtract them.

K.CA.1-2: Solve real- world problems, objects, or drawings that involve addition and subtraction within 10. Demonstrate the equation (e.g. 5=2+3 and 5=4+1).

An activity was opened at the art table that allowed children to practice their pouring skills. As children came to the table, they were given a few cups, a measuring cup, and a water dropper. They were able to take the water and pour it from glass to glass and when they did get water on their tray, they used the water dropper to get most of the water up!

The welcome activity involved pegs and peg boards. Children took this activity in several directions. A few kids made peg patterns that involved color while other children attempted to make tall peg towers! A few towers ended up being super high which required a ton of team work!

Good Afternoon!

This morning Dax and Paige were engaged with our textured ramps watching as they pushed their cars to see how they moved differently on each of the different textures.  Arthur and Emily worked together to build a train track to drive their train cars on.

IMG_3721IMG_3723IMG_3728

Ben and Eliza were busy climbing on the habi-trail.  Ben stood up holding the bars and looking out the window.  Eliza stood up holding onto the ladder and then looked at her reflection in the mirror and gave herself a kiss.

IMG_3736IMG_3733IMG_3735IMG_3732

We then brought the snow into us at the kitchen table for our sensory experience.  We added Little People, tow trucks, a dump truck and cars to it.  Miss Bekah asked us if it felt warm or cold in our hands? Paige said it felt “cold” in her hands while Emily said it felt “cold” to her as she put some on her chin to feel it.  We also watched what happened to it the longer it was inside.  We noticed that it came in white from outside, and as it melted Miss Bekah asked us what color it was turning now?  Emily shared it was turning the color “gray.”  Ben and Eliza enjoyed using their senses of taste and touch while they explored it.

Happy Monday!

Kindergarteners kicked off their week by completing a sign in that focused on long and short sounds of the five main vowels. There was one short sound and three long sounds that children had to figure out. Hearing long vowel sounds are usually easier because the letter says its name (Eagle).

K.RF.4.3: Recognize the long and short sounds for the five major vowels.

Each K/PREK1 member solved a word problem. C’s word problem was, “C was outside playing in the snow for six minutes in the morning and then five minutes in the afternoon. How many minutes total did C spend outside in the snow?”. I wrote down the two main numbers that we took from the word problem and each friend had to solve their problem.

K.CA.1-2: Solve real- world problems, objects, or drawings that involve addition and subtraction within 10. Demonstrate the equation (e.g. 5=2+3 and 5=4+1).

Throughout the morning, children scattered into different areas of the house such as art table where we saw detailed drawings of tooth fairies. Others spent their time on the building rug where children either built with various materials or read fall books.

Happy Friday!

First off, a big happy birthday to Daniel who turned SIX today! How time has flown! We loved getting to spend the day with you!

IMG_0043(1)IMG_9996(1)

Kindergarteners had ten clip cards that they had to complete. They had to either find a number that comes after or a number that comes before. It is definitely more challenging to figure out what number comes before versus after! We love a challenge!

K.NS.3: Find the number that is one more than or one less than any whole number up to 20.

IMG_0059(1)IMG_0072(1)

We started turning our housekeeping space into our newest theme: grocery store! A few of our kindergarteners and older preschoolers sat at the art table where they talked about prices at the grocery store. Their job was to put a price on each grocery item before we placed it into housekeeping.

IMG_0002(1)IMG_0004(1)

Children took turns exploring the new grocery store all morning long! They were able to use bags to go shopping.

IMG_0022(1)IMG_0028(1)IMG_0027(1)

Somehow, friends got talking about height and Daniel requested a tape measurer to measure his friends. A few older children took turns with the tape measurer, measuring each other and eventually things throughout our environment. We weren’t just measuring: we were comparing heights: “I’m 44 inches and you’re 40 inches so I’m taller than you!”

IMG_0054(1)IMG_0081(1)

Happy Veteran’s Day to those who have served and are serving! We appreciate you!

Good Afternoon!

Our kindergarten sign in focused on verbs today, specifically action verbs! We read three sentences and each sentence was missing a verb. Using their prior knowledge of different body actions as well as context clues in the sentence, children were able to write their own action verb into the sentence. One of the sentences read: Can you ____________ like a bunny?

This lead children to answer in a few ways. Two children wrote ‘jump’ and another child wrote ‘hop’.

K.W.6.1b: Verbs- Writing sentences that include verbs.

Our older children are loving board games and today, Jenga took over the circle table. Board games such as Jenga teach children many things including playing cooperatively. We often hear children cheering each other on or giving a vote to confidence as a peer takes their turn. Jenga specifically requires patience and trial and error skills. It challenged us this morning!

Good afternoon!

**Wee Friends will be closed Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25 for Thanksgiving break.

This morning we engaged with dress-up clothes/accessories in many ways.  Emily put on a red dress to dance,  Hannah used her silk scarf as a tablecloth, Dax laid on top of his silk scarf as he pretended to take a snooze and Arthur wrapped the scarf around his face.

IMG_3647IMG_3651

IMG_3653IMG_3650

We then made our way outside to ride our bikes, mount the teeter-totter, engage with the sand with different tools and cook in the play kitchen outside.
