Good Afternoon!

This morning several of us were engaged with the cars and train cars. Arthur built a train track for his train cars while Emily and Paige drove their cars and trains on the hollow blocks and ramps.

Hannah worked her fine motor and hand-eye coordination skills to move the beads in the tracing board while Dax and Eliza enjoyed the shape block houses.  Ben was using his climbing skills as he climbed up onto the habi-trail and crawled his way through to go down the slide.

We enjoyed a sensory experience with shaving cream, animals and bugs with Miss Tina.  Emily was very excited to show us her hands covered in shaving cream.

Good Afternoon!

We focused on charts and graphs today in kindergarten sign in as well as in K/PREK1 group. For sign in, we looked at a pie chart that revolved around our favorite colors. We talked specifically about what we use charts for and what this type of chart was called. Then, children answered questions based on the information that we learned about using the pie chart.

K.W.5: With support, build understanding of a topic using various sources. (Identify relevant pictures, charts, grade- appropriate texts, personal experiences, or people as sources).

After reading, ‘The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin’ in K/PREK1 group, we looked at a bar graph that focused on our favorite breakfast meal. After I explained the specifics of the information that was shown on the graph, I asked questions like, “The yellow bar is oatmeal. How many kids said that oatmeal was their favorite breakfast?”

We were also able to compare breakfasts and answer questions about our least favorite as well as our most favorite breakfast!

Yesterday, children worked on hollowing out the two pumpkins so they could explore them today! Friends used a hammer to nail in golf tees around the entire pumpkin! It is our favorite fall time activity and children always look forward to it! While it’s fun, it is also a great activity that focuses on hand eye coordination.

Good Afternoon!

This morning several of us were busy with our colored beads and stacking them on one of the stackers or the balance.

IMG_2782IMG_2783IMG_2786

We then went to make our own music on the piano or shaking the shakers to hear the different sounds the instruments make.

IMG_2790IMG_2789IMG_2797IMG_2796IMG_2795IMG_2799

Miss Tami bought us the big orange pumpkin and Miss Tina brought in the small white pumpkin.  We enjoyed exploring the stems and skin with our hands.  We talked about  the colors and sizes (big and small) of them, weight of them(heavy or light) and how the outer skin (smooth or bumpy) felt to us.

Good Afternoon!

Our daily kindergarten sign in activity focused on patterns, taking into account shape and color! They had to identify the pattern and figure out what colored shape went on the blank space. Not only did children get to work on identifying patterns but it was a nice shape refresh!

K.CA.5: Create, extend, and give an appropriate rule for simple repeating and growing patterns with numbers of shapes.

IMG_7381IMG_7386 (1)

We read ‘Caps For Sale’ during K/PREK1 group. Afterwards, we continued the pattern trend for our activity. Each group member got one shape handed to them. We went through the six patterns on the chalkboard and had to figure out what shape came next in the pattern. Whoever had the shape that completed the pattern raised their hand and came to the chalkboard to tape it at the end of the pattern.

One of our favorite things about the fall time is getting to explore pumpkins! Today, children took turns scooping the pumpkin guts out with their hands! They used very descriptive words about the pumpkin guts such as slimy and gooey. Next up: golf tees!

Now that the weather has gotten colder, please make sure your child has winter mittens and hats for morning outside play everyday.   Also, if you could put your child’s name or initials on their outside clothing that would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Good Afternoon!

This morning Miss Tina brought out the big tunnel with 4 different pathways to choose from and an opening to pop up out of in the middle.  We absolutely loved it!

IMG_2716IMG_2714IMG_2719IMG_2721

We then headed into the kitchen to engage in a sensory play experience with playdough.  We explored using a variety of textured cutting tools and rolling pins to see the different designs they made in it.  We also worked using playdough scissors to practice cutting our playdough.

IMG_2728IMG_2726IMG_2724IMG_2727IMG_2723IMG_2730

Even though it was a chillier morning than we are used to, we bundled up and headed outside.

Good Afternoon!

As one kindergarten shared once they were done with their sign in, “Wow! I wrote a lot!”.

The three kindergarteners had to write down a person in the classroom who is taller than they are as well as a peer who is shorter than they are. Once they were done with that, they had to list their family members in order from tallest to shortest. One kindergartener even added in their family dog!

K.M.1: Make direct comparisons of the length, capacity, weight, and temperature of objects, and recognize which object is shorter, longer, taller, lighter, heavier, warmer, cooler, or holds more.

IMG_8386IMG_8374(1)

Two of our kindergarteners built a very detailed creation using a combination of wooden train tracks and magnatiles. The magnatiles were individual houses while the train track went through the town. In the middle of the track, they wanted to use a bridge but it wasn’t staying up. So, using their problem solving skills, they used magnatiles to place underneath the bridge so that the bridge would stay up!

Good Afternoon!

This morning friends were busy using their imaginative play skills while engaged with several items.

First, Emily was putting the colored rings up against the wall and was moving them in an up and down motion.  Miss Bekah asked Emily what she was doing with them?  She replied, “painting the wall.”  Several others joined her.

IMG_2653IMG_2655IMG_2654IMG_2661IMG_2651

The second activity was using the animals and wooden blocks.  They were putting their animals inside the hollow wooden blocks.  Paige said her animals were sleeping so we needed to talk quietly.

IMG_2670IMG_2673IMG_2671IMG_2675

We then headed into the kitchen for some sensory play in the corn and bean table.

IMG_2680IMG_2681IMG_2684IMG_2683IMG_2682

Eliza engaged in a sensory experience with the scarves while the older friends were playing in the sensory table.

IMG_2686IMG_2685

We then headed outside for more sensory experiences while exploring the leaves, sand, rocks and chalk dust.
