Good Afternoon!
We read a short Frog and Toad story during K/PREK1 group titled ‘The Story’ (that made all of us deep belly laugh, by the way!) before diving into our activity. Today, we discussed weight and what instrument we use when dealing with weight: a scale! I had a mockup drawing of a scale and we talked about how scales are used. We also referred to the teeter totter outside as a useful weight tool. I shared that if Millie and her younger brother both got on the teeter totter, Millie would go down to the ground and her brother would go up into the air because Millie weighs more. We used this way of thinking throughout our activity.
Each group member got two pictures of animals. They had to figure out which was weighed more as well as which one was lighter. Once the determined that, they placed the two animals appropriately on the scale. They double checked with their peers to make sure it was correct!
K.M.1: Make direct comparisons of the length, capacity, weight, and temperature of objects, and recognize which object is shorter, longer, taller, lighter, heavier, warmer, cooler, or holds more.
It was a busy morning full of activities! The art easel was requested so we opened that right after breakfast. Ka-noodle (a puzzle from my childhood!) has been a big hit lately with our older friends, so much so that we got a new ka-noodle where two friends can play against each other! It allows us to work on our problem solving skills, trial and error, and patience.
We are starting to say goodbye to the warmer temps but HELLO to leaves! Our wonderful tree in the backyard always drops the most perfect leaves into our play space. Today, children grabbed buckets from the sandbox to collect leaves. Several children worked together to collect leaves and make a big pile in the center of the yard. They took turns jumping into the pile which is one of our favorite fall time activities outside!
