Good Afternoon!

We read a short Frog and Toad story during K/PREK1 group titled ‘The Story’ (that made all of us deep belly laugh, by the way!) before diving into our activity. Today, we discussed weight and what instrument we use when dealing with weight: a scale! I had a mockup drawing of a scale and we talked about how scales are used. We also referred to the teeter totter outside as a useful weight tool. I shared that if Millie and her younger brother both got on the teeter totter, Millie would go down to the ground and her brother would go up into the air because Millie weighs more. We used this way of thinking throughout our activity.

Each group member got two pictures of animals. They had to figure out which was weighed more as well as which one was lighter. Once the determined that, they placed the two animals appropriately on the scale. They double checked with their peers to make sure it was correct!

K.M.1: Make direct comparisons of the length, capacity, weight, and temperature of objects, and recognize which object is shorter, longer, taller, lighter, heavier, warmer, cooler, or holds more.

It was a busy morning full of activities! The art easel was requested so we opened that right after breakfast. Ka-noodle (a puzzle from my childhood!) has been a big hit lately with our older friends, so much so that we got a new ka-noodle where two friends can play against each other! It allows us to work on our problem solving skills, trial and error, and patience.

We are starting to say goodbye to the warmer temps but HELLO to leaves! Our wonderful tree in the backyard always drops the most perfect leaves into our play space. Today, children grabbed buckets from the sandbox to collect leaves. Several children worked together to collect leaves and make a big pile in the center of the yard. They took turns jumping into the pile which is one of our favorite fall time activities outside!

Good afternoon.

We started off our morning by exploring the Habi-trail. Some friends explored the area underneath while others explored the area on top.

We then danced to some of Jim Gill’s songs and incorporated some of our classroom toys, like the plastic rings, into our dancing.  When we froze our bodies, we said the color ring our foot or feet were in.

We enjoyed using markers and crayons to draw on a pumpkin shape that Miss Tina outlined on orange construction paper.  We are going to display them around the classroom to decorate for the season.

As we walked outside to play, we noticed a couple of trucks surrounding some of the trees behind our backyard. We watched from afar as they cut down some tree branches.

IMG_2612IMG_2616

We enjoyed some other outside activities as well, such as: drawing with chalk, riding bikes, playing in the play house, and playing with baby dolls.

Good Afternoon!

This morning we all went our own separate ways to different areas of the classroom to play.  We explored the wooden loose parts, drove trucks and planes, climbed up the steps onto the habi-trail and built with Magna-Tiles.

IMG_2517IMG_2519IMG_2520IMG_2521

We then were busy making our own music while shaking our shakers, rain stick and tambourine.

IMG_2530IMG_2522IMG_2525

A friend then asked for the See The Bunnies Sleeping Song.  We acted out the sleeping part and being flamingos in the pictures.  The other animals we acted out were; pigs, horses, lions, and bunnies.

IMG_2535IMG_2538

Miss Tina and I attended a conference over the weekend. Jim Gill who is a children’s songwriter and musician was the keynote speaker, so we listened and danced to a few of his songs,  the Silly Dance Contest and Jump and Count.

Today was trash truck Monday, so we were excited to see the truck come and empty our trash bin while we were outside.  After seeing the trash truck we headed to bury our feet in the sandbox and step out of it, dig and pour with shovels and small cups, use our fingers to poke holes into a sand mountain and drive and empty the dump truck in the rocks.

Happy Monday!

Our three kindergarteners were given five different items, varying in length. They had to sort the items starting with the shortest to the longest. Daniel fixed a mistake he had made very quickly while Bo and C compared the lengths of the items before placing them in order.

K.M.1: Make direct comparisons of the length, capacity, weight, and temperature of objects, and recognize which object is shorter, longer, taller, lighter, heavier, warmer, cooler, or holds more.

After reading, ‘Kindness Grows’ in K/PREK1 group which is a book from our MACK section, each child got a different colored pipe cleaner. We measured the pipe cleaners using a ruler. When I got the ruler out, I asked the group, “Does anyone know what this is called?”. A few friends called it a tape measurer while Rowan raised her hand and suggested, “Ruler?!”

Each child used the ruler to measure their pipe cleaner and we wrote down how long it is. Once we had the measurements of each pipe cleaner, we sorted them starting with the shortest to the longest!

An art activity was available at the art table this morning. We didn’t use brushes though: we used spray bottles to distribute the water colors! Each friend used a leaf stencil so leave prints were left behind once they were done spray their paper.

Good Afternoon!

Kindergarteners explored our clock this morning as they had to find five specific times. We talked about both hands, the minute hand and the hour hand and how they correlate to the numbers on the clock!

K.M.2: Understand concepts of time, including: morning, afternoon, evening, today, yesterday, tomorrow, day, week, month, and year. Understand that clocks and calendars are tools that measure time.

IMG_8012IMG_8008

We continued this activity into K/PREK1 group after we read Croc Around the Clock. The three kindergarteners shared what they learned with their two preschool peers. Each friend got one time card and they had to find the time by moving both hands.

Happy Friday!

This morning we had our gross motor skills in motion as we crawled through the tunnel or watched as our friends crawled through.

IMG_2488IMG_2489IMG_2490IMG_2492IMG_2500

Miss Tina read us several bilingual books that were written in both English and Spanish to introduce us to a new language.  She read several books to us in English first and then we got to hear her read it in Spanish to hear the difference in the languages.  We were very interested in learning the names of the animals in Spanish.

IMG_2504IMG_2509IMG_2511IMG_2512

We pulled down our sheer curtain for our friends to look and walk through and feel the texture of the fabric in their hands.

Lunch:  Turkey lunchmeat on whole grain wheat tortillas, fresh apple and pear slices and peas and carrots.

Good Afternoon!

This morning Miss Tina set up a playdough sensory experience for us.  We enjoyed using our rolling pins to poke it, hammers to pound it and craft sticks to cut it.  We also used a variety of different shaped cookie cutters to make our shape cut outs.

IMG_2392IMG_2391IMG_2389IMG_2390

Arthur and Paige then went into the front area to engage with the textured ramps using our cars and trains.  They watched as their cars and trains went down the different ramps and how they bumped or zig-zagged down the ramp.

IMG_2396IMG_2399

Arthur and Emily then built together with the Magna-Tiles.  They placed Little People inside and then covered them up with another tile and continued to build it higher and higher.

IMG_2386IMG_2387

We then headed outside to stand at the window of the climbing house, ride the teeter-totter, cook in the play kitchen and scoop with a funnel in the sandbox.
