Good Afternoon!

This morning we began positioning our bodies into several yoga poses.  We did downward dog and dead bug.  We then listened to versions of Animal Action by Greg and Steve and moved our bodies like animals.

IMG_6858IMG_6860IMG_6862IMG_6863

We then walked on the stepping stones, had a teacher read to us, used our imaginative skills while playing with the Little People with a friend and engaged with babies and dress up scarves.

IMG_6874IMG_6875IMG_6878IMG_6881

We then headed into the kitchen to engage with playdough.  We used many tools to flatten it and cut it.  We watched to see the designs and holes appear as we used them.  We were also given golf tees to enhance our experience.  Several friends used their imaginative skills to pretend the golf tees were candles and sang Happy Birthday to their friends.

While the rest of us were engaged with playdough, Eleanor enjoyed crinkling her book while sitting in her chair with us in the kitchen.

Good Afternoon!

Today, in our sensory bin we did a water systems project. We were able to experiment with pipes and connectors to build different water systems.  We tested the pipe systems pouring water through and observing how the direction of water flow was affected.  We could pour our water in different ways as well.  We could used measuring cups and  funnels as well as using eye droppers to make the water flow through the pipes at different speeds.  We had some pipes with an on and off lever as well.  We were able to look inside the pipe as the lever was turned and see how water flow could be started and stopped in real plumbing systems.  We learned through trial and error how water always flows to the lowest point.

At the round table we had a terrarium habitat building activity for snakes, frogs and turtles.  Many of us have been itching to play with water and gravel outside so we created an activity inside that would (hopefully) indulge this  interest.  We used gravel, water, silk plants and rocks to build habitats for our amphibians and reptiles.  We ended up having an interesting conversation as a group at this table about how snakes can unhinge their jaws in order to swallow their food whole!  When they are finished they must yawn in order to put their jaw back in place!

Happy 1st day of March.

Today we engaged in a painting activity with blue, red and yellow tempera paint.  We worked on mixing new colors using a variety of brushes.  We painted with a toothbrush, a skinny and wide paint brush.  We also used white paint to see how white paint makes the colors lighter on our papers.  Several of our friends shared they were creating paintings for their siblings either in our class or the preschool class.

IMG_6827IMG_6828IMG_6829IMG_6835IMG_6836IMG_6838

We then headed outside to enjoy the beautiful sunshine and warmer weather.  We were busy riding or pushing the bikes, pushing a cart or digging in the sandbox.

Hello Sunshine!

IMG_5768IMG_5807

We conducted a popped corn and water experiment today.  One of our friends asked while eating a popped corn snack what would happen if he put his popped corn in water.  We did this experiment to find out.  We were asked what we thought would happen.  Some thought the popped corn would break apart, others though it would blow up.  We were asked if we thought the popped corn would displace the water like the rocks did.  Some of us thought yes and others thought no.  As we did the experiment some of us noticed that the popped corn made a hissing sound.  We learned that the popped corn did not displace the water because it was full of air and the water filled the air space.  We also learned that the hissing sound was made as the air rushed out of the popped corn.

K.M.1 Make direct comparisons of the …capacity…and recognize which object… holds more.

Our Kindergarteners were given four measuring cups/tools. They filled each one of them with their purple water until it reached the one cup line. We discovered that the denominator gave us the clue as to how many cups it would take. They recorded their observations in their journals.

We experimented with weighing different objects today.  We could use wood, rocks, corks, pine cones and acorns.  We attempted to balance the scale using objects of different mass or two of the same object.  Questions where asked which lead to a conversation about what weight is.  We learned that weight caused by the mass of the object combined with the force of gravity, as the object is pulled to the earth.  One friend asked what gravity is  and we talked about how it is a force in the universe that attracts objects toward one another.  The earth being so big, it pulls everything toward it, rocks stick and kids!  In response our friend exclaimed  “Oh yeah!  I know about gravity and the universe!”

IMG_5644IMG_5632IMG_5597

We did a still life this morning with the lights out and nature music playing in the background. Ms. Kim set up pieces of wood shapes with tea lights spread around the display. We had a discussion about how the lights shined on parts of the of it, while the other parts of the display had shadows. They enjoyed painting their pictures, but they all loved painting their mini easels even more.

Lunch: Cheese quesadillas on whole wheat tortillas, peppers/cucumbers, & pineapple

Good Afternoon!  What a rainy day it has been.  We listened to the song, Rain, Rain Go Away, but unfortunately the rain didn’t go away for us.

We engaged with several of our musical instruments this morning.  We created our own music with the xylophones and pianos and then shook our bells to the song Jingle Bells.

IMG_6696IMG_6695IMG_6704IMG_6705IMG_6708IMG_6707

We then headed into the kitchen for water play and washed the toys from the housekeeping area.  We added a little soap to our water and used sponges and toothbrushes to help us get our toys clean.  We worked on our pouring skills, using the bowls, cups and spoons.  We loved it!

IMG_6722IMG_6727IMG_6729IMG_6734IMG_6735IMG_6736IMG_6720

We then headed out of the kitchen to use our imaginative play skills and talk on the telephone, explore using the doctor’s blood pressure cuff, dress up and drive the truck around with Little People inside.

Good Afternoon!

This morning Miss Tina read to us some books that we chose for her to read to us or looked at books independently.

IMG_6614IMG_6615

We then listened to several songs by Jim Gill.  We listened to Stick to the Glue and Count and Jump.  In the pictures we are using our fingers to show the numbers we are counting to and used our hands to count all the way to ten.  We added baby dolls to our dancing to music.

IMG_6627IMG_6629IMG_6631

After listening to the song Stick To The Glue, we headed into the kitchen to use some glue to stick colorful foam pieces and shapes onto a piece of cardboard to make a collage.

IMG_6632IMG_6633IMG_6634IMG_6635IMG_6636

We then headed to the front to do some climbing up the steps and slide mat or rocking on the rainbow star mats.
