Barge Building Day WF 02-15-2023

This morning we enjoyed a barge building challenge.  We were given a truck, a piece of cardboard with holes in it, string and rubber bands.  The challenge was to build a barge and attach it to our truck using some type of connector.  Our teacher helped us make knots if needed.  Next we tested our work in the science center.  We loaded up our barge with materials of our choice like blocks, pieces of wood or magnetic tiles.  We tested our project to see how much it could pull.  Some of us found that the rubber band was not strong enough to pull as much as we wanted to pull but the string was.  Most of us played with our creation all morning!

Hannah had the idea to make her barge bigger.  She asked for another piece of cardboard to attach.  As she worked she realized she would need another set of holes in the back so it could be attached on both sides.  I added the holes and she completed the project.

FAB: Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group.

PreK/K: After reading “Be Kind” for our story time, we worked on identifying which groups of objects were less than, greater than, or equal to. We took objects such as shells, tokens, and coins and put them in different groups. Then we went around the circle and had each friend count the number of objects in each group, then say which one was greater, lesser, or equal. Afterwards, friends had fun journaling about various pictures such as cobras and volcanoes.

Valentines Day WF 02-14-2023

We were all VERY excited to pass out our Valentines to our friends today! We each took turns placing our Valentines in our  friends bags..  The kids can’t wait to see what treasures they got when they take home their bags!

IMG_4509(2)IMG_4504(2)IMG_4506(2)

We enjoyed a “Loose Parts” Valentines activity at the round table today.  We used red colored gravel, wood hearts, gems, bowls, spoons and cups of different sizes to create any imaginative play ideas we could think up…

IMG_4525(2)

We also got to do a “Valentines Love Potion” science experiment using baking soda, pink vinegar and eye droppers.  As we dropped the vinegar into the baking soda we got to see a chemical reaction creating festive pink foam.

IMG_4517(2)IMG_4520(2)IMG_4532(2)

PreK/K: Today before journaling we read “The Tale of Two Beasts”. We talked about how there are two sides/perspectives to each story and to try to see things from different points of view.

Breakfast: chex square cereal and orange slices

Lunch: heart shaped peanut butter sandwiches, pineapple, and wee sprouts

Snack: heart shaped whole grain english muffins with butter and cinnamon, strawberries, and string cheese

Wee Sprouts: carrots, snap peas, and bell peppers

Happy Valentine’s Day, Friendship Day or “Hearts Day” as Paige shared with us.  There are many different terms that fit for today.

We had a very busy morning.  We made a new batch of playdough.  All of the friends helped to pour the ingredients into the pan, stir them together and squeeze red food coloring into it to make it red.  We learned the names of the different ingredients and practiced saying some of them.  Miss Bekah had to then cook it, and afterwards showed us how our mixture turned into our playdough when it was finished.

IMG_6231IMG_6232IMG_6238IMG_6242IMG_6246IMG_6250IMG_6253

While our playdough cooled, we took turns passing out our Valentine’s cards to all of our friends.

IMG_6257IMG_6260IMG_6264IMG_6266IMG_6270

We then headed back into the kitchen to play with the playdough we made.  We loved it.

IMG_6271IMG_6273IMG_6275IMG_6277IMG_6279IMG_6280

We then headed outside for a bit to engage in our favorite activities.

Good Afternoon!  It is so great to see the sunshine so often lately.

This morning we were all engaged in the habi-trail area.  We laid under it, went down the slide, teetered on the rainbow mats and sat or stood in the plastic blocks.

IMG_6161IMG_6159IMG_6158IMG_6175IMG_6174IMG_6168IMG_6167IMG_6163

Arthur, Dax and Paige sat down on the floor to build with Duplos.  They all were busy building their own towers.

IMG_6169IMG_6172IMG_6170IMG_6171

We then headed into the kitchen to use markers to decorate our bags for Valentine’s tomorrow.  We filled our bags with a variety of colors.

IMG_6176IMG_6177IMG_6178IMG_6179IMG_6180IMG_6181IMG_6182

Preparing for Valentines Day WF 02-13-2023

The kids created their Valentines bags today using an apple stamp (an apple cut in half) to decorate their bags with  heart shapes.  They  mixed red and white to make different tints of pink as they worked.

IMG_4477(2)IMG_4462(2)IMG_4453(2)IMG_4454(2)

We also  experimented with sand and various types of funnels.  They found using the funnel as a tool was helpful in easily filling a bottle with sand.  The bottles were topped with squeeze top caps so the kids could pour the sand out of the bottle and watch the funnel working the opposite way.  This allowed them to make interesting sand designs on their trays.

At morning snack everyone who did not get to taste our fresh baked bread on Friday got a taste of the second loaf today.

IMG_4488(2)

At small group we did a mindfulness exercise using our hand.  We traced our five fingers taking a breath in as we traced up and a breath out as we moved down.  We talked about how our bodies felt calm and quiet at the end.

FAB: Identify important elements of the text (e.g characters, settings, or events).

Happy Friday!

This morning we engaged in books, having the teachers read us teacher book stories or stories from the bookshelf.

IMG_6101IMG_6122

We then engaged in building with Duplos, Lego People and Interstar Connectors. The friends worked independently to build or worked together to build a tower.

IMG_6086IMG_6109IMG_6111IMG_6095IMG_6117

Several of us then headed into the kitchen to work on puzzles that matched our skill level.  We worked to manipulate the piece to fit in the correct place in our puzzle board.

IMG_6123IMG_6127IMG_6132IMG_6134

Eleanor interacted with Paige while she was talking to her.  Eleanor gave Paige lots of coo’s and smiles.

We made bread today!  Everyone got to help add ingredients for a simple yeast bread.  We added water, salt, sugar, flour and yeast. We stirred our ingredients and  watched the bubbles form as the yeast reacted…so a little chemistry lesson in the mix.  We took turns kneading if we wanted to give it a try.  We are excited to bake the bread later today and give it a taste!

IMG_4370(2)IMG_4384(2)IMG_4383(2)

We also experimented with soap bubbles today.  We got to try pouring, stirring  and squirting out water to make more bubbles, learning that aerating the soapy water causes the bubbles to form.

Breakfast: rice cakes with cream cheese and bananas

Lunch: Humus sandwich on whole wheat bread with fresh green beans, cucumbers and pears

PM snack: whole wheat crackers and colby jack cheese

Good Afternoon!

This morning our friends engaged with the star rainbow mats to rock on them like  teeter totters.

IMG_6033IMG_6032IMG_6043IMG_6042

We then headed into the kitchen for an exciting sensory experience with corn starch and water.  We worked our fine motor and hand-eye coordination skills to use an eye dropper to add water to our corn starch.  We noticed as it got wetter the consistency of the corn starch changed.  We then used our hands to scoop it up as it was solid on the bottom of our bowl and when we picked it up it was a liquid and ran through our fingers.  Emily shared that it was “gooey and looked like snow.”  There was lots of laughter when several friends found out they could squeeze their eye dropper to make bubbles in the liquid.
