Good Afternoon!

This morning our friends were engaged with the baby dolls.  They were bathing them, holding them and dancing with them.

IMG_0508IMG_0506IMG_0505IMG_0509IMG_0519

We then sat down to build with Magna-Tiles and the big wooden blocks.  Several of us incorporated both sets of blocks together while building.  We also looked through our Magna-Tile to see everything turn the color red.

IMG_0522IMG_0521IMG_0526IMG_0525IMG_0527IMG_0520

Dax engaged with several of our manipulatives, the Lego People and crawled with color ring necklaces to say hello to the fish.

IMG_0518IMG_0500 IMG_0507

We then headed outside to ride bikes and teeter totters and drive the trucks in the mulch.

Happy Friday!

Our favorite aspect of our setup at Wee Friends is to see children go through the entire Wee Friends experience, start to finish. Mack started at Wee Wee Friends when he wasn’t even one year old. Now, he’s leaving us a bright, energetic, and curious seven year old. We are going to miss your hugs, vibrant smile, and ability to connect with any peer, regardless of age. We can’t wait to hear how first grade goes!

Enjoy the pictures from our day!

Good Afternoon!

We began our morning in many different areas of the classroom.  We read books, played with babies and dress-up clothes, doctor tools and climbed on the habi-trail.

IMG_0378IMG_0377IMG_0376IMG_0369

Miss Tina got out the playdough for us at the table.  We enjoyed cutting it with a craft stick, pounding it flat with a hammer, rolling it flat with a textured rolling pin and cutting out different objects with a variety of cookie cutters.

IMG_0392IMG_0390IMG_0391IMG_0386IMG_0388IMG_0393

Several friends were engaged building with the big wood blocks.  Friends were stacking them 2 blocks high and then Emily and Paige decided to look and talk to each other though the open side of the block.

IMG_0409IMG_0407IMG_0408

Then all of the friends decided to look at themselves in the mirror before sliding down the slide backwards.

IMG_0412IMG_0415IMG_0410

We then headed outside to enjoy the beautiful weather and engage in many of our favorite activities.

Good Afternoon!

From baby to toddler to…

SEVEN! We celebrated Mack turning 7 years old today! We hope you had the best birthday!

 IMG_4180

We got out new magnatiles that focus on letters! Some friends decided to strictly use them as magnatiles while others searched for letters that they recognized. Maggie found an M for her name while Adrian worked on spelling his name without any teacher help!

IMG_4170IMG_4167

IMG_4171IMG_4166

Before we headed outside, several older friends did a scavenger hunt inside! Each clue involved a rhyming word and they had to figure out what the second rhyming word was which led them to the clue!

One of our favorite spaces in the backyard is where we have logs that can be moved around. This offers an opportunity for children to have physical input as well as testing gross motor abilities.

This morning, a structure was made and it wasn’t the most stable creation. We term this ‘risky play’ since there is a chance that children could fall or get slightly hurt (but there’s more benefits!). However, in risky play, children learn several things about themselves. In the article below, it is shared that, “When we have kids engage in play, it’s really a fundamental way for them to figure out the world — how the world works, how their body works,” says Brussoni, adding that these little experiments are all done “in context of a relatively safe space.”

Our children LOVE some quality, risky play because it keeps play interesting and challenges friends to go slightly past their comfort zone.

Good Afternoon!

This morning the friends engaged with a variety of musical instruments.  They were shaking maracas, bells and shakers while listening to the different sounds each instrument made. They all sounded great making their music together.

IMG_0319IMG_0324IMG_0325IMG_0328

We then headed into the kitchen to paint with Q-tips!  We began by using the color that matched our tray.  We then switched colors so everyone had the opportunity to use each of the colors to paint a colorful picture. Several friends also shared what they were painting.   Emily shared with Miss Bekah that she made ‘a birdie and a fish.”  Paige shared she made “ a butterfly,” and another friend shared she had “made a circle.”  I loved hearing all of their thoughts.

Good Afternoon!

I had turned the music on this morning for children’s arrival and shortly after breakfast, a friend came up and asked if we could do musical instruments. This peaked the interest of several friends so a large group converged on the music rug. We listened to music and worked on rhythm and beat while using a variety of instruments.

IMG_4086IMG_4082

IMG_4092IMG_4094

Once we put the musical instruments away, a few friends decided to explore a quieter activity: puzzles! Children challenged themselves by doing puzzles that they hadn’t done before or that were challenging in the past.

IMG_4121IMG_4120(1)IMG_4128

As we headed outside, we were hit smack in the face with temps in the 70’s and abundant sunshine! For early August, we’ll take it!

James found two cicada exoskeletons and decided to put them into his bug jar. He went around asking his friends if they wanted to see.

Good Afternoon!

This morning we were busy in the front area of the classroom engaged with the cars/trains textured ramps and train tracks.  We enjoyed watching the way the cars went down on the different textured ramps.  It gave us a big smile!

IMG_0274IMG_0273IMG_0279

When then headed into the kitchen to engage in a sensory experience in the moon sand table.  We used a variety of different scoops to scoop up the sand or pack it down with our hand into the scoop to make a mold.

IMG_0281IMG_0282IMG_0285IMG_0284IMG_0291

We then headed outside to play and enjoy the refreshing, cooler weather.

Good Afternoon!

For the last two days, James has been interested in nonfiction stories in the science area. Yesterday, we looked at a dinosaur book and today called for firetrucks! His interest drew in a few friends and they got nonfiction books of their own. If a picture peaked James’ interest, he would ask for me to read the description.

IMG_3982

A sensory activity was made available for children before we headed outside. Miss Kim made goop with a few of our older boys. They worked their hands through it, describing how it felt and how it changed consistency depending on how they moved it around.

IMG_3992IMG_3995

Considering that it’s August 9th, we were so unbelievably thankful for the weather today! It called for all toys on deck: balls with the basketball net, bikes, and babies!

IMG_4004IMG_4006IMG_4005

Daniel and James worked together to make a truck city. They took wooden boards and made roads that were high up by placing them on green buckets.

IMG_4016IMG_4019

Several friends worked on their aim as they practiced making baskets. Children stood at different angels and various distances from the hoop. A few of the older boys even created two teams to go against each other.

IMG_4045IMG_4055IMG_4056

Breakfast– Corn Chex and fresh pears.

Lunch– Peanut butter on whole wheat bread, fresh pineapple, and fresh cherry tomatoes from the garden/carrots.

PM snack– Whole wheat bagels with butter and string cheese.

Wee Sprout– Fresh cucumber/carrots.

Have a lovely night!

Happy Monday!

We had the best Monday! Our hands were busy this morning at the sensory bin and woodworking bench. At the circle table, various materials were explored such as math bins and Legos. All morning, friends did a great job at finding an activity that peaked their interest.

IMG_3860IMG_3869

IMG_3871IMG_3876

As you can see from the photos taken outside, we have a full and happy outdoor experience! A ton of friends worked on shooting baskets into the hoop. Once they got the hang of it, they kept stepping back, making their shot more challenging!
