Good Afternoon!

We finally explored the new playdough that we made last week! Miss Tami brought in a garlic press for children to use and it created a whole new playdough experience!

When our younger friends come out, Maggie, Imogen, and Millie go with them on the top of the wood climbing house. They all pretend that they’re on a train. We know this because they loudly shout, “Choo-choo! All aboard!”. They take turns being the conductor.

Our imaginations were soaring in the sandbox this morning! James, Daniel, and William worked on digging holes and when they got deep enough, they made a tunnel because each hole.

Evie went around collecting nature (mainly weeds) to add to her various sized containers. She filled each container with sand and gently planted the weed in the center of the container.

Rowan found some beautiful flowers on the ground. She proceeded to walk around the backyard, holding them ever so gently. Miss Kim joked with her that she looked like a bride to which Rowan gave a subtle eye roll Smile.

Good Afternoon!

This morning a friend requested the I’m Going on a Bear Hunt song and for the bed sheet we had used before to make a cave for the bear to hide. This time we added a tunnel for us to crawl through for the cave’s opening.  Friends loved crawling in and through the tunnel or just sitting in the cave.

IMG_7688IMG_7691IMG_7695IMG_7697IMG_7700IMG_7703IMG_7707

A couple of friends used their cognitive and imaginative play skills to create a bed using the bed sheet or a scarf from the housekeeping area.  They then laid down and went to sleep.

IMG_7714IMG_7717

The rest of us decided to engage in a book in the reading area. We sat independently looking at it or having a teacher read to us.

IMG_7713IMG_7712

We then headed outside to enjoy drawing with chalk, making waffles in the play kitchen, working on our balance skills on the balance beams, climbing to the top of the climbing house and playing with the trucks.  What a busy morning!

Good Afternoon!

The lemonade stand was opened this morning in the housekeeping area! Children used lemons to make lemonade as well as perfecting the act of taking orders. They asked their friends what kind of lemonade they wanted and proceeded to make it for them before serving it as well as discussing the price for each cup.

When we went outside, we got all of the things out: bikes and balls being two of our favorites! This occupied our time until Miss Tami came outside to clip some branches off of a few bushes and small trees which ultimately meant that our attention shifted!

IMG_9748IMG_9765

IMG_9770

Kids stood back in amazement as Miss Tami started clipping low branches from two small trees/bushes. They watched her throughout the whole process and then asked to help clean up when she was all done! We grabbed the yard waste bin and children went to work, picking up small leaves/branches to put into the bin. This group of kids is BEYOND helpful and most of the time, we don’t even have to ask!

Good Afternoon!

We began our day engaged in play with the baby dolls.  We all had our own ideas on how we wanted to play with them.  Some friends danced and spun around with them, while others took care of their babies needs of giving them a bath or putting them to sleep.

IMG_7576IMG_7574IMG_7571IMG_7579

The bird seed and rice sensory table was available for us to work on our fine motor, hand-eye coordination and scooping and pouring skills.  We used a variety of different scoops to pour from and fill the bowls and cups.

Reminder:  Wee Friends will be closed Thursday, June 30-Friday, July 8th for our annual summer vacation.  We will re-open Monday, July 11th.  Thank you.

This morning one of our friends was spinning around in circles, which reminded Miss Bekah of a song.  This song is new to us and it is called Spin Again by Jim Gill.  We all enjoyed spinning around to the song. I’m Going on a Bear Hunt and Freeze Dance: Lava, were two other songs that were requested by friends to dance along with and do the motions.

After dancing, we headed into the kitchen to paint with our dot paint markers.  We all enjoyed creating several bright and colorful pictures.

Happy Friday!

Today was Miss Annastecia’s last day here at Wee Friends. We celebrated by having a pajama and nail day. After she got done painting friends nails, a few friends offered to paint hers!—how thoughtful!

We’re going to miss her a ton but are extremely thankful for everything that she’s brought to Wee Friends throughout the last four years.

We headed outside where the weather was PERFECT! The new balls and basket were a big attraction. Children tried throwing the balls into the hoop at the same time to see how many could fit at one time.

Good Afternoon What a gorgeous day!

This morning we had a good time engaging with the colorful shape stackers. This activity enhances friends hand-eye coordination, shape and color recognition as well as working on the understanding of  biggest to smallest and vice versa of the stacker shapes.

IMG_7292IMG_7282

We then got in our big blocks and had fun rowing them as our boats. We listed to a few different songs while rowing.

IMG_7304IMG_7301IMG_7302IMG_7299

During outside play, we engaged in coloring all types of things on the ground with our new sidewalk chalk. Also, we had fun playing hop scotch after Miss Marty made the number squares to jump on.

Good Afternoon!

Two very exciting events happened this morning–

First: we made new playdough! A few friends gathered around the island as I got the ingredients together, anxious to help out! They decided on the colors blue and black. Each friend helped with an ingredient and placed it into the bowl. Once all of the ingredients were added, they helped me stir the dough together. We did this again for the second color that the small group of children chose. A friend commented, “It looks like icing. I wanna eat it!”

Playdough is one of our favorite sensory activities. It’s a huge bonus that children get to help me make it!

IMG_9300IMG_9307IMG_9327

The second exciting event was new chalk was added to our outdoor environment. We LOVE chalk! A few kids decided to cover a big space with their chalk while others chose to draw simple drawings or even play a game of hopscotch! It was such a beautiful morning to be outside.
