Happy Friday!

Kindergarten sign in centered around groups of words and choosing the one word in each group that didn’t belong. For example, the words head, foot, hand, and blue were grouped together. Children had to choose which word didn’t belong into the group. Daniel thought about it and said, “blue since it’s a color!”. After Daniel finished sign in this morning, he sighed and shared, “That one was HARD!”

We read, ‘Today, I Feel Silly’ in K/PREK1 group which is a book from our MACK collection! Afterwards, we turned our attention to the chalkboard where various groups of shapes were drawn on a piece of paper. For example problem, there were two groups of shapes. Children worked together to count each group and then answer a question such as, “Which group has the most shapes?”

K.NS.9: Use correctly the words for comparison, including: one and many; none, some and all; more and less; most and least’ and equal to, more than, and less than.

Our welcome activity centered around food! (our FAVORITE topic)

Children took the pictures of food and sorted them into six groups: meat and eggs, cheese and dairy, vegetables, fruit, bread and grains, and sweets.

Breakfast– Brown rice cakes with peanut butter and banana.

Lunch– Chicken breast (lunchmeat) on whole wheat bread, fresh pineapple/apple, and fresh cucumber/cherry tomatoes.

PM snack– Pretzels and cheddar block cheese.

Wee Sprout– Fresh cucumber/cherry tomatoes.

Good Afternoon!

Friend enjoyed our Fall sensory bin with corn, beans, pine cones and a gourd so much yesterday, we opened it up again today.  They were busy scooping with different size measuring cups and spoons and pouring the mixture into some of our extra drinking cups.

Ben and Eliza engaged with pom-pom balls as their sensory experience in a bowl and in a whisk.  Eliza was busy shaking her whisk full of pom-poms.

Even though the cooler Fall temperatures were here today, it didn’t stop us from enjoying some of our favorite outside activities.

Breakfast:  Whole grain brown rice cakes with peanut butter and fresh oranges.

Lunch:  Turkey lunchmeat on whole grain wheat bread, cucumbers and apple slices.

Afternoon Snack:  Colby block cheese and Ritz crackers.

Wee Sprouts:  Cherry tomatoes.

Good Afternoon!

Kindergarten sign in had several parts! First, children had to sort four shapes from smallest to biggest. Once they had them sorted by size, they identified the shape before drawing it. The trapezoid and hexagon were challenging to draw so a few friends traced the wooden shape to practice the motion of drawing it.

We filled in the last text genre on our chart! We have been seeing so many monarch butterflies the last few months in the backyard so we decided to learn about them thanks to a non-fiction book in the science area titled, ‘Butterfly Life Cycle’. Did you know that the butterfly life cycle lasts about one month AND a caterpillar has sixteen legs?!

When we were done filling in our chart, each friend looked at a specific row of shapes. They had to identify which shape didn’t belong in the group and share why. For example, Rowan had the shapes on the green piece of paper. She said that the diamond didn’t belong because it was a different color than the other shapes.

The welcome activity centered around shapes. Since there were no directions, children guided their own experience so it looked different for every child. Bo decided to make a unique creation that involved mirror shapes; what he did on one side, he did on the other! Millie chose to strictly work with triangles but she placed them upright around her wooden tray.

Hello, FALL!

We bundled up in our jackets and headed outside this morning. We were greeted by crisp, cool air which made for a lovely outdoor play experience!

Breakfast– Toasted oatmeal squares with banana.

Lunch– Brown rice with shredded chicken, fresh strawberries/banana, and fresh cherry tomatoes/carrots/cucumber.

PM snack– Ritz whole wheat crackers and peanuts.

Wee Sprout– Fresh cherry tomatoes/cucumber/carrots.

Good Afternoon!

This morning we were busy digging, scooping and pouring in the moon sand sensory table one last day before we switch it to a different sensory experience tomorrow.

We also listened to Miss Bekah read us some teacher stories.  Some of us stood at the window on the reading step to watch the rain come down and listen to the thunder.

Ben and Eliza enjoyed interacting and playing with the Peek-a-Blocks together.

Breakfast:  Overnight Oatmeal with cinnamon/sugar mixture and fresh pears.

Lunch:  Farm fresh scrambled eggs with shredded cheese, whole grain wheat flatbread, orange bell peppers and bananas.

Afternoon Snack:  Refried beans and Blue corn chips.

Good Afternoon!

This morning the friends were looking at their reflection in the mirrors in a few areas of the classroom.  Paige made several silly faces while looking at her reflection.

We then engaged in many areas of the classroom.  We went down the habi-trail slide, played with baby dolls, looked at books, walked across the stepping stones to feel the different textures on the bottom of our feet and pretended to fill our spoon with water from the play kitchen faucet.

We then headed outside to enjoy the beautiful weather and engage in  our favorite activities.

Breakfast:  Quaker Oatmeal Squares-Brown Sugar cereal and watermelon.

Lunch:  Peanut butter on whole grain wheat bread, Colby-jack block cheese slices, red bell peppers and fresh oranges.

Afternoon Snack:  Whole grain wheat bagels with cream cheese and apple slices.

Good Afternoon!

Yesterday we focused on the fiction text genre. Today, we read, ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ which Daniel shared, “I think it’s two different genres: fiction and fairytale!”. But, we all agreed that fairytale is the perfect fit for the book.

The welcome activity from today was a sorting activity. There were several cards that children had to sort and place into one of three categories: air, land, or sea. For example, James placed the a picture of a motorcycle in the ‘land’ category.

Breakfast– Kix and fresh watermelon.

Lunch– Peanut butter sandwiches on whole wheat bread, fresh pears/apples, and fresh cucumber/snap peas.

PM snack– Whole wheat bagels with butter and string cheese.

Wee Sprout– Fresh cucumber/snap peas.

Good Afternoon!  What a busy day!

Today we……

made beautiful sounds as we played music together using pianos, shakers and xylophones….

read books independently and snuggled with baby dolls and teddy bears….

before heading outside to ride bikes down the hill, walk with an older friend, look for bugs, play with the sea animals, go down the slide and play with toys while sitting on a blanket.

Breakfast:  Whole grain wheat toast with butter and cinnamon/sugar mixture and fresh oranges.

Lunch:  Whole grain wheat pasta with shredded chicken, apple slices and broccoli.

Afternoon Snack:  Whole milk yogurt and watermelon.

Wee Sprouts:  Cucumbers.

Happy Monday!

Food was the focus of the kindergarten sign in this morning. The three kindergarteners took food squares and sorted them into six categories: bread and grain, milk and dairy, meat and eggs, sweets, fruit, and vegetables. There were a couple that caused some apprehension but we eventually got them all sorted into the correct category!

One of our FAB’s for the week focuses on text genres and we dove right into it today! We talked about each of the four text genres before identifying the genre that fit the book we read today in K/PREK1 group. We read, ‘The Giving Tree’ by Shel Silverstein which is a favorite of ours! When we were done reading it, we talked as a group about what genre we thought the book would fit into. We finally decided on fiction because, “trees don’t talk!” and “trees can’t move their branches!”.

An art project was made available at the table this morning that involved glue and nature objects! Children used a small piece of paper and a combination of nature objects that they chose to make a nature material collage.

It was absolutely gorgeous this morning! Friends danced, balls were thrown, and bikes were ridden until the lunch bell went off. It was the perfect outside experience.

Breakfast– Whole wheat bagel with butter and fresh pears.

Lunch– Whole wheat pasta with marinara sauce and shredded cheese, fresh watermelon, and fresh carrots/cucumber.

PM snack– Whole milk yogurt with graham crackers.

Wee Sprout– Fresh cucumbers.
