Good Afternoon.

Today we engaged in many different activities that kept our day very busy! We played in the  moon sand that is ohhhh so soft! During this activity we can scoop,  pour and even clean up any sand that falls to the floor. Our two year old’s LOVE cleaning up the sand.

Then we had fun “skating” on paper plates while listening  to the song, Listen and Move by Greg and Steve. Friends are encouraged to follow along with what the narrator of the song is asking of us. We had a great time. Smile

Emily enjoyed our colorful bucket people loose parts activity this morning. She can take the little person with their specific color and match it with the same color bucket. We can also work on her knowledge of the colors.

IMG_1110IMG_1109

We then engaged in the Roll and Race activity. There are different colored and textured ramps that friends can race their cars down. We talked about if the cars made different sounds as they zoomed down the tracks and if one track made the car goes at a faster or slower pace.

Good Afternoon. I hope you all had a great weekend.

Our two friends were happily engaged in dramatic play this morning. They both took turns covering one another up with a silky “blanket” to go night-night.

IMG_1074IMG_1075IMG_1078

Emma really has been showing a lot of interest in sitting on the rocking chair. Teachers help her up into the chair and then she happily rocks herself. She really gets her body moving so she can feel the chair move. Smile

IMG_1093

Emily was working hard while concentrating on placing the large beads onto the balancing structure today! While working on her hand-eye coordination to get the beads onto the sticks she can also start to understand the color of the beads.

Happy Monday

For kindergarten sign in, Evie wrote down the number of sides and vertices of several shapes. She noticed a pattern: the number of vertices and sides were the same for each shape!

K.G.2: Compare shapes using informal language to describe their similarities, differences, and parts (e.g., number of sides, length of sides, and vertices).

K/PREK1 group read, ‘Room On The Broom’ before diving into a discussion about authors and illustrators. We identified what an author does and what an illustrator does. We took our discussion one step further as we talked about characters in our favorite stories.

Many of our favorite books were up on the chalkboard. I read the titles aloud. Then, I read a character or characters and children told me what book the characters belong to.

K.RL.3.2: Define the role of the author and illustrator of a story in telling the story.

IMG_1417

Dr. Seuss was the topic of PREK2 group as they talked about authors and illustrators. Dr. Seuss is one of our favorite authors!

IMG_1419

We started an art project last week where children used various sized circular stamps. Today, they used the three primary colors to fill in the circles. Not only did they use the primary colors on their painting but they mixed the primary colors together, making new colors! Friends chatted while they painted about the colors that the primary colors made such as blue and yellow made green!

IMG_1358IMG_1366

IMG_1374IMG_1365

The light table was made available in the science area. Our FAB’s for the last few weeks have focused on shapes which children are quite interested in! A group of friends got out the plastic shapes. They used the plastic shapes to make new shapes or a specific design!

Good Afternoon!

In K/PREK1 group, we played a board game that required a dice. Each friend chose a specific color gem to use as their game piece. After the rolled the dice and moved the correct number of spaces, they had to come up with a rhyming word for the picture that was shown on the board.

For example, if a friend rolled a three and landed on the picture of a hat, they had to come up with a rhyming word. Several friends landed on the picture of the hat and the rhyming words we came up with were bat, cat, and mat!

K.RF.3.1: Identify and produce rhyming words.

IMG_3737IMG_3739IMG_3740

Evie was completing her sign in earlier this morning. Daniel overheard what we were talking about and ran to the trio block area and said, “Here! I can build that!”. Evie and I were talking about the difference between a square and a cube. Daniel ran to the island and shared the cube that he made!

K.4.1: Identify and describe geometric objects: circle, triangle, square, rectangle, diamond, trapezoid, hexagon, octagon. parallelogram, sphere, and cube.

IMG_1202

Children came to the art table for a stamping activity. They chose circular stamps of various sizes and strategically placed the circles around their paper. We will add another dynamic to our painting tomorrow!

Good Afternoon. I hope you’re  all having a wonderful day.

A few of our friends started their day off in the reading center. At one point one of our two year old’s turned her book so her friend cold see the pictures while she read to them. How sweet!

IMG_0772IMG_0773

IMG_0774

We all sat down on the floor in a nice half circle and rolled and gently threw balls to Ms. Marty and Emma. We waited patiently until I called each child’s name, so they k ew it as their turn to roll or toss. Having patience at such a young age can be a difficult task, but our friends do a pretty nice job of listening and understanding the importance of what teachers are asking of them.

IMG_0826IMG_0828

We then decided to get some of our energy out while getting our bodies in motion. Again, one of the two year old’s had a great idea and said, “Let’s have a race!” So everyone joined in and ran around the front part of the classroom. This was a fun and energizing way to get our bodies moving.

Good Afternoon!

We worked with shapes today in K/PREK1 group. Each friend had three shapes that they had to identify and place under the shape name. We talked about how many sides each shape has as well as similarities and differences between shapes. For example, we talked about how a square and rectangle are similar and different: they both have four sides but a rectangle is longer than a square.

K.4.1: Identify and describe geometric objects: circle, triangle, square, rectangle, diamond, trapezoid, hexagon, octagon. parallelogram, sphere, and cube.

IMG_3728IMG_3732IMG_3733

In PREK2, children played a game using hexagon pieces and a gameboard. The main object of the game was to work on rhyming words! Miss Kim started a conversation about rhyming words and what rhyming words sound like.

IMG_1173IMG_1172IMG_1175

‘Peanut’ was the star of our art activity this morning! Friends had various interpretations of what she looks like.

IMG_1108IMG_1100IMG_1117IMG_1123

We got some fresh air by going for a short walk before lunch. We even got to see a train that was on the tracks down the road!

IMG_1166IMG_1169

Good Afternoon!

The kindergarten sign in required children to draw a line from a shape to the shape name. We talked about the number of sides on each shape as the lines were being drawn.

K.4.1: Identify and describe geometric objects: circle, triangle, square, rectangle, diamond, trapezoid, hexagon, octagon. parallelogram, sphere, and cube.

IMG_0981

We played a round of memory game with rhyming words in K/PREK1! Cards were placed picture side down and we went around the circle so everyone could have a turn. We played until all of the matches were spoken for. Not only did children have to decide if the two words rhymed but friends had to pay attention to where the cards were which was the hardest part!

K.RF.3.1: Identify and produce rhyming words.

IMG_1070IMG_3714IMG_3713

In PREK2, children were given one shape. They looked at the shape and using sticks, made their own shape!

IMG_1074IMG_1078

IMG_1089IMG_1085

A fun, interactive activity was set up on the backdoor. Miss Annastecia created a contact paper snowman! There were various materials that were set out for friends to put on the snowman including puff balls, foam pieces, wooden sticks, and crinkle paper. Children LOVED adding to the snowman.

IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A NEW WINTER TIME ACTIVITY, THIS WAS A BIG HIT!

“Children learn as they play, and more importantly in play, they learn how to learn.”

We switched out the swings in the habitrail area. We got out the green bar which proves to be a little more challenging for friends to get up on the bar. BUT it offers a great opportunity for perseverance and hard work.

IMG_0960IMG_1009

Breakfast– Kix and banana.

Lunch– Ham on whole wheat tortilla, fresh watermelon, and fresh cucumber/snap peas.

PM snack– Whole wheat english muffins with peanut butter and sliced cheddar cheese.
