Good Afternoon.

This morning Katherine was happily looking at herself in the mirror. She would then glance back at a teacher and just smile then go back to looking at herself the mirror. Smile Precious moments!!

We made new playdoh today! Miss Bekah asked our friends if they would like to help! We were able to see all of our ingredients and participate in pouring and stirring the different items we needed. We were also able to feel the soft texture of the flour and feel the fine rougher texture of the salt we used before smelling the cinnamon we added.  We were great little bakers.

The preschool classroom placed their pumpkins out in the back parking pad area for animals to eat off of and we saw squirrels chomping away! We were very excited to watch them.

Good Afternoon!

For kindergarten sign in, Evie had to identify which shape came next in the pattern that was given. Evie looked at four different patterns that focused on color AND shape. She determined which colored shape came next in the blank spot and filled it in.

K.CA.5: Create, extend, and give an appropriate rule for simple repeating and growing patterns with numbers and shapes.

IMG_2717

After we finished our story in K/PREK1 group, Evie and her two preschool peers got to make up their own pattern using shapes! Usually, making up an original pattern is a little more challenging that completing a pattern that has already been given to you.

Some friends chose to use shape and color in their pattern while others chose simply to use color!

We’ve been slowing working our way to this point with the pumpkins this week: the removal of the pumpkin guts!

It is quite the sensory experience so inevitably, there were some friends who were all about it while others chose not to participate or simply chose to ‘touch’ it.

It’s getting to be that time of year where children have to grab a jacket or sweatshirt before heading outside, especially in the morning! The sun was out which made for the perfect fall morning.

Good Afternoon.

Today our sensory activity was painting with small cars. We chose the colors we painted with, which were pink, green, yellow, purple and orange. We zoomed our cars through our paint then had fun with hand/finger painting to finish off our creations.

During outdoor play we excitedly engaged in the slide area. We can strengthen our core muscles by walking up the rocks placed on the sides of the slides, or in the middle on the long piece of wood. We always love the end result of sliding down the slides. Smile

Good Afternoon!

After reading, ‘I Am Human’ from our MACK book collection, members of K/PREK1 were given a specific block pattern to which they had to identify the pattern and continue it.

K.CA.5: Create, extend, and give an appropriate rule for simple repeating and growing patterns with numbers and shapes.

IMG_2699IMG_2695

PREK2 children were introduced to patterns today. Miss Kim explained what a pattern is before having each child take a turn at identifying a specific pattern. Once each child identified their pattern, they used the items available to finish the pattern.

Good Afternoon!

Evie looked at a graph that focused on favorite pizza toppings for her sign in. She answered questions such as which topping had the least number of votes as well as the specific number of votes for each pizza topping to document it.

K.W.5: With support, build understanding of a topic using various sources. (Identify relevant pictures, charts, grade- appropriate texts, personal experiences, or people as sources)

DSCN9741

We continued our discussion about graphs into K/PREK1 group where we read, ‘Rah Rah Radishes’ which set up a graphing opportunity for us. We all voted on our favorite vegetable, choosing from broccoli, pepper, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, and green beans. There were five of us that voted so we tallied up our votes and placed the results on the graph.

In PREK2, Miss Kim asked the question, “Is your costume, scary, cute, or funny?”. Each child got to answer the question and then the results were put on the graph. The majority of friends plan to have a scary costume for Halloween!

We started one of our most coveted activities today: the yearly pumpkin smash using golf tees!

We look forward to this every year!

Good Afternoon, I hope you all  had a great weekend.

This morning a friend was reading stories to herself and chose a book she knows quite well. From Head to Toe,by Eric Carle is a great book that our little ones can act out motions throughout the book. We can clap our hands. bend our knees and even arch our backs like a cat along with many more fun actions we can act out.

PA180227PA180226

We then had some fun engaging in the sensory table. We can scoop, pour and pick apart corn kernels off the corn cobs. We also feel the prickly feel of the pine cones.

PA180259PA180261

PA180264PA180266

We then went outdoors to enjoy the crisp fresh Fall air and get our bodies in motion with quite a bit of gross motor play!

Happy Friday!

We ended the week by reading, ‘Froggy Plays In The Band’ in K/PREK1 group. At the beginning of the story, Froggy decided to start a band that would march in a parade. The winner would be given a prize and together, we brainstormed about what the prize might be offered! We came up with a trophy or medal and sure enough, the prize was a trophy!

K.RL.2.4: Make predictions about what will happen in a story.

After the story was done, we used a food scale to measure three things: a rock, glass container with gems, and glass container with nails. Everyone got a chance to hold each item. They each made a guess as to what item was going to weigh the most: and everyone was right in their guess!

We talked about the different types of scales and ways to weigh things after Mack said, “I have a scale at home but it’s for your body!”

K.M.1: Make direction comparisons of the length, capacity, weight, and temperature of objects, and recognize which object is shorter, longer, taller, lighter, heavier, warmer, cooler, or holds more.

Colored water was placed in bins this morning for a sensory experience. Children used various sized spoons to move the water as well as explore fall materials such as bones and eyeballs.

An extensive game of Simon Says took place this morning. A few of the commands we heard were:

“Simon says…smell your shoes.”

“Simon says…do downward facing dog.”

“Simon says…do a pushup!”

…we have to work on our pushup form just a little bit! Smile

Good Afternoon and Happy Friday! I hope you all have had a great week.

Miss Emma climbed up onto the habi-trail and found the wall abacus. She really enjoys manipulating the small beads on the board and working her fingers and hands to get them to move to different areas. This activity enhances Emma’s cognitive, fine motor and hand-eye coordination skills. She does a great job! Smile

PA150153PA150152

A friend asked Miss Annastecia yesterday if she and her friends could play with shaving cream for today’s sensory activity. So that was just what we did! The Little People dolls were added into our play to make it more fun and interesting.

Good Afternoon!

In K/PREK1, we read ‘Lion Lessons’. Right away, every member of our group shared that they had read this book before so throughout the story, they shared a few sneak peaks as to what was coming up next.

We started a conversations about lions which sparked a wider discussion about animals and comparing weight. Each friend got to add one animal to the ‘light’ category and one animal to the ‘heavy’ category. When everyone got a turn, children immediately started sharing, “We forgot giraffe!” or “We should’ve added fish!”

K.M.1: Make direction comparisons of the length, capacity, weight, and temperature of objects, and recognize which object is shorter, longer, taller, lighter, heavier, warmer, cooler, or holds more.

In PREK2, children worked with volume. There were test tubes with various volumes and they had to figure out which test tubes had the most liquid as well as the least.

DSCN4924DSCN4918

Playdough was requested this morning and instead of using regular playdough tools, children used bones, eyeballs, and snakes in their playdough! We’re definitely getting into the fall spirit over here!

Happy Thursday!

This morning our little friend, Emma was engaging in the tiny Duplo people. She was working on taking them out of  their basket and placing them on the green board. Her hand-eye coordination skills were being put to full use during this fun activity.

PA140073PA140067

Our friend, Paige was happy at the habi-trial gross motor center. She loves to balance her body leaning on the ladder and then walking down the slide vs sliding on her bottom or belly.

Evie, from the preschool classroom absolutely loves our little Wee Wee’s. She and a couple other Wee’s take our little ones by the  hand and walk them around the outdoor play area. What a sweet sight!!!
