Good Afternoon,

Fab of the Week: Describe the relationship between illustrations and the story in which they appear.

MACK of the week: Children will learn to recognize and name emotions in themselves and others.

During PreK2 group time, we talked about the emotions that the characters in the book felt throughout the story. The group was able to discuss how they felt at given moments. We  also worked together to put our four story cards in order of how the events took place in the book.

The PreK and Kindergarten group also discussed and identified feelings in the book Stellaluna. They created a web in their group time.

“In my world there are NO BAD KIDS, just impressionable, conflicted young people wrestling with emotions & impulses, trying to communicate their feelings & needs the only way they know how.”

Since we have a whole lot of new friends this fall, we are changing out our canvas display to include our new friends. Those who chose to paint today painted with white and royal ruby. To add some texture to their paintings, they used sponge brushes with scaping and rolling tools. They really experimented with how each of these tools changed their paintings, so they all turned out unique.

Good Afternoon and Happy Monday. I hope you all had a fantastic weekend.

This morning we engaged in music and all the joy it brings. We manipulated many different musical instruments and LOVED all the various sounds that each one brought. We used shakers/maraca’s, pianos and xylophones. Wee all had a great time. Smile

We then had several requests for stories. One of our favorite books right now is… There’s a Monster in your Book, written by Tom Fletcher.

This book is an interactive and fun story all about a silly monster who doesn’t want too leave our book and we have to do all kinds of actions to get him to leave it. It’s a great story!

Good Afternoon!

K/PREK1 had a poetry session today where children got to choose one poem. In almost every poem, we noticed rhyming words. Once we were done, I read four words on the chalkboard. Each friend got a turn and chose a word. They had to come up with a word that rhymed and I wrote it underneath. For each word, we came up with at least two rhyming words. There’s a difference between identifying rhyming words and producing rhyming words. Today, we did both!

K.RF.3.1: Identify and produce rhyming words.

In PREK2, members took two dice and rolled them. They used their one to one correspondence skills to count up the dots they saw. After they came to a total, they represented this total by placing the correct number of white tiles by the dice!

Children came to the table this morning to use pastels to draw a still life of a beautiful bouquet of flowers! Children focused and took their time, using specific colors that they saw in the bouquet.

This week’s MACK is: Children will practice mindfulness strategies to calm their minds, calm their bodies, and to increase their concentration and attention. Strategies can include visualization, breathing, and movement exercises.

In both group settings, children have been working on various breathing exercises. This helps children calm their bodies and minds so that they can pay attention to the story/activity for a longer period of time. We’ve been utilizing our new books that are geared toward our MACK curriculum in group time.

Breakfast– Whole grain Cheerios and fresh oranges/banana.

Lunch– Brown rice with turkey and shredded cheese, fresh pears, and fresh peppers.

Good afternoon.

Today marks the second week of our Musik Garten class with Miss Melinda. The WWF were VERY excited when they saw Miss Melinda and a couple others from the pre-school class come across the bridge to come and get us. Just look at those faces. Smile

Good Afternoon!

**Reminder: Please don’t allow your child to open the front door when exiting the building. Our rule is that only parents and teachers are allowed to open the door as it’s a safety issue. Thanks for everyone’s cooperation.

After reading, “He Bear, She Bear” in K/PREK1, which focused on rhyming words, we sorted shapes based on the number on sides each had. After we sorted the shape into the correct category, we identified it. Several friends commented, “We have more four sided shapes!”

K.4.1: Identify and describe geometric objects: circle, triangle, square, rectangle, diamond, trapezoid, hexagon, octagon, parallelogram, sphere, and cube.

DSCN7705DSCN7707

In PREK2, children worked together to match the uppercase letter to its lowercase counterpart. One of our FAB’s this week that our kindergarteners are focusing on is being able to write most/all lowercase and uppercase letters. PREK2 started by identifying them first!

Good Afternoon.

Today friends happily engaged in the very fun sensory activity, moon sand! We all love the soft texture and the ability to be able to scoop, pack and just run our hands/fingers through the mixture. It is however quite different from our regular sand that we play with outside. It LOVES to stick to our clothing vs just falling right off and it is a safe and easy activity you can make right at home with just a few simple ingredients.  Smile   We all had a great time!

Good Afternoon!

Today was a day full of sensory experiences.  We used our fingers to spread paint all around our trays while making circular motions, lines and hand prints. Miss Rebekah then took a piece of white paper and made a print of our creations from our tray.
