Good Afternoon.

“A child’s world is fresh and new and beautiful, full of wonder and excitement.” ~Rachel Carson

Today we enjoyed a fine motor, hand-eye coordination and sensory activity! We love to paint especially at the easel. Friends used the colors purple, yellow, orange, and pink to paint their masterpieces.

Happy Monday!

After reading ‘The Magic Hat’ in K/PREK1, children used Easter eggs to complete the sentences on the chalkboard. Each child came up to the chalkboard and picked an egg. They opened it and I read aloud the words (nouns) that were on the paper. I asked them what kind of word it was such as a body part or food. They chose what type of noun it was and taped it onto the correct sentence.

I read the sentence using both types of nouns; singular and plural. After I read the sentence both ways, they decided which word sounded right. They took a marker and circled the correct noun.

K.W.6.1a: Nouns/Pronouns– Writing sentences that include singular and/or plural nouns (e.g., dog/dogs, cat/cats).

In PREK2, eggs were incorporated as well! Each friend picked one egg and opened it. They identified the letter that was in their egg and after every child had opened an egg, they put the letters into the correct order.

Happy Friday!

After having our weekly poetry session in K/PREK1, we read six sentences that were on the chalkboard. I demonstrated the first sentence. I used a marker to underline the uppercase/capital letters that I saw and circled the ending punctuation. After I circled the punctuation, I identified it to the group. Each friend had the opportunity to come up to the board after I read their sentence. If a friend was unsure whether or not a letter was uppercase or lowercase, we discussed it as a group.

K.W.6.2a: Capitalization—Capitalizing the first words in a sentence and the pronoun I.

K.W.6.2b: Punctuation—Recognizing and naming end punctuation.

Oatmeal Pancakes— several friends enjoyed them this morning so here’s the recipe.

1. Use leftover oatmeal (or fresh!). Add a little flour and either one or two eggs to get a batter like consistency. I add a little cinnamon but we’ve added blueberries before!

2. I use an ice cream scoop to make sure that the pancakes are the same in size. Brown each side and enjoy!

Good Afternoon!

K/PREK1 read, ‘A Tale of Two Beasts’. Throughout the story, we identified three ending punctuation marks that we saw: period, question mark, and exclamation point. We talked about each and in what situation they would be used. This conversation will continue into tomorrow’s group time where we’ll expand our knowledge by using punctuation in sentences.

PREK2 has continued the theme of bugs throughout the week. Today, spiders was the focus. Friends talked about the different characteristics of spiders and how to identify them.

We headed outside right after breakfast to get some fresh air and sun on our face. It was nice enough out to get bikes out. Friends rode bikes for 20 minutes straight. Our confidence it really growing on the balance bikes which allow for our gross motor skills to be engaged!

Four of our friends pretended to set the table for dinner. Maxwell initiated a game where they had different characters which ended up being a family unit! There was a mom, dad, and two sisters. They quickly got into their roles and even took on new names.

Good Afternoon.

“Kids don’t remember what you try and teach them. They remember what you are.” ~Jim Henson

Our friends enjoyed utilizing their fine motor skill this morning in a couple different ways. Puzzles and coloring in journal binders were at the top of the list.

Some of our friends are really starting to branch out, and manipulate the more difficult foam puzzles. We love to watch the children explore with new activities and get out of their comfort zone a bit.

Our cognitive skills are being put to the test with these foam puzzles and it seems as if though that is just fine and dandy with our little ones, as they all did a GREAT job mastering these puzzles today!

Jack decided it would be a great idea to place all six of the colorful big blocks into a certain pattern of his choice and drive the cars and trains on the smooth and bumpy sections of the blocks, as well as on the floor. Great minds at work Smile

Good Afternoon!

After reading a story, members of K/PREK1 looked at the pictures that were on the chalkboard: a red square, a basketball, carrots, and a person riding a bike. We identified each picture before moving on. Each friend came up to the board and was given a picture. They had to determine which category it went into. Penny was given the soccer ball and she quickly came to the conclusion that it belonged in the group with the basketball. Once we categorized each picture, we talked about why we put the pictures into the groupings that we did. Together, we came up with descriptions that summarized each group.

K.RV.2.2: Identify and sort pictures of objects into categories (e.g., colors, shapes, opposites)

DSCN6866DSCN6867

In PREK2, a book was read that focused on bugs and insects. There are a few specific characteristics that insects have: they must have six legs and three body parts which helped friends determine which group each went into.

DSCN6856DSCN6860

The morning provocation revolved around sorting gems by color. This quickly shifted as Anna and Sophia wanted to place the gems on the perimeter of the wooden tray. After a little while, Anna announced, “I’m going to try and make my letters!”. She used the gems to make an A and an E!

DSCN6759DSCN6754DSCN6755

What a beautiful morning! The sun glistened on our face as we headed outside.

We decorated shamrocks to hang in the classroom and we were finally able to go outside in the morning as well as the afternoon. What a fabulous day…. we all LOVED being outdoors soaking up the sunshine and enjoying our play!
