Good Afternoon!

In pre-k/k group, we pulled out ‘A Light In The Attic’ by Shel Silverstein. On each page, there was a small illustration for each poem so we talked about what the drawing could possibly be telling us before we dove into the poem.

Yesterday, we worked together to sort shapes based on the number of sides. Today, we looked at the vertices of each shape and categorized the shapes by the number of vertices. Lucy told us what vertices are and demonstrated how to count the vertices in any given shape.

K.G.2: Compare shapes using informal language to describe their similarities, differences, and parts (e.g., number of sides, length of sides, and vertices.)

Children requested a couple different games this morning. Emma and several of her peers took turns interacting with the category game where different items are sorted into specific categories. For example, a friend put three animals onto the farm category and shouted, “This is my farm!”

DSCN1622DSCN1641

Anna, Lucy, and Penny used different sized rocks in our outside environment. Anna commented, “These are our creations!”. We have loose parts all throughout our backyard which allows our imaginations to soar.

Happy Thursday!

“The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind.”~Maria Montessori

Slides are so much fun. Both inside and outside slides bring so much joy to our little ones. We tend to receive big smiles and a lot of “Weeee’s.”

While outside time is a fun time in general, it’s even better when we unite with the preschool classroom! Some of our friend’s get to see their sibling and others just enjoy the company of the big kids and that they play with us. Smile

Good Afternoon!

In pre-k/k group, we read the story, ‘Fredrick’ and looked for different shapes as we flipped the pages. After we finished the story, we looked at the different characteristics of several shape cutouts. We sorted them into categories based on the number of sides each shape had. As we finished up, several friends noticed that the group of 4 sided shapes had the most. As we taped each shape under the correct category, we collectively said the name of the shape.

K.G.2: Compare shapes using informal language to describe their similarities, differences, and parts (e.g., number of sides, length of sides, and vertices).

DSCN1606

Our welcome activity enticed children once they finished breakfast. Maxwell and Grady took colored gems and used them to trace different shapes. Grady mentioned to Franklin that the shape he was working on had four sides which was called a square!

An art activity was offered at the art table for children who wanted to participate. Children took string and after dragging it through paint, transferred the paint onto the paper.

Good Afternoon!

**Our 3’s/ young 4’s farm trip has been tentatively scheduled! Our farm date will be Monday, October 8th and our rain date will be Monday, October 15th. To be able to ride in the weehicle, your child must be at least 3 years old and fully potty trained. If your child is not potty trained, a parent/grandparent is welcome to transport to the farm and come enjoy the farm with us! We will plan to leave around 9:45 am and arrive back at Wee Friends between 11:45 and 12:00. If you have any questions, please let us know Smile.

Children who got to school first thing this morning collectively played with the chains after breakfast. Anna and Maxwell used them on their bodies and as they were playing, Maxwell proclaimed, “I want to be a cowboy when I grow up.”

DSCN1464DSCN1466

Mack brought in acorns from his house to share. Children took turns at the art table painting the acorns different colors. This activity required a lot of concentration as well as fine motor skills because of the size of the acorns!

Good Afternoon!

“Happiness is not something you postpone for the future; it is something you design for the present.” ~Jim Rohn

Please Note: We unfortunately had a child go home early today with a fever. A doctor appointment was made and the diagnosis is as follows… It is a different kind of virus than the current one, most likely respiratory. The  doctor stated that the big virus running through currently is called, HRV (Human Rhinovirus) We will keep you posted on any changes.

Today was a great day for dancing while listening to fun upbeat music. Friends utilized their gross motor skills to clap, jump, and shake their bodies to the beat of the song being played. Music is also a great way to improve on a child’s coordination skills, as well as self-confidence and self-esteem. We LOVE to dance and listen to music Smile

“Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn.” ~ O. Fred Donaldson

Today was upside down silly day. Evie decided it would be fun to slide down the slide on her back and she ended up… upside down! Friends thought that was so silly, so they decided to follow suit. Hence, upside down silly day! Smile

Happy Monday!

**Our 3’s/young 4’s trip is currently being scheduled. Please check the blog tomorrow for a date as well as a rain date Smile. Thanks!

Our weekly FAB’s include understanding the difference between an author and an illustrator as well as their specific roles when creating a book. Today, we read two books: one book had a different author and illustrator while the other book had a man who wrote the words and drew the pictures!

K.RL.3.2: Define the author and illustrator of a story in telling the story.

DSCN1461

Our morning was full of creating, specifically at the art easel and with different manipulatives. Children took the chains and made belts and necklaces at different lengths.

DSCN1422DSCN1428

Our pre-k/k group headed to the farm today. First, we went into the barn where we checked on the baby bunnies. They had grown so much just in the last week! Miss Tami was able to get a chicken for us. A few of us were hesitant about the chickens but most commented that the chickens feathers were very soft.

P9171644P9171651

There was a lot of commotion going on outside and when we looked over, it quickly drew our attention. We headed outside where we saw a moving ladder transporting hay into the upper part of the barn! As we stood and watched, the word ‘machine’ was talked about and what goes into a machine functioning properly. We stood quite a ways away to keep our bodies safe but we enjoyed watching as the hay went up and then suddenly disappeared.

P9171660P9171665

We decided to take a short walk into the words where we found a toad! Children made the decision to pet the toad but we found out it was rather jumpy! Smile. We looked at Maxwell’s shirt as a guide to see what kind of frog or toad we found.

Our Friday morning was quite eventful. Today we got out some toothpicks and playdough. Our friends made various designs with them. At first, most of them made 2D structures, but eventually some of our friends made 3D structures such as castles and tents.

Ms. Melinda got out our lamps and paperweights. Our older friends explored what happened when the lamp light shined through it.

Breakfast: Brown rice cakes with peanut butter & PPC pears

Lunch: Whole wheat tortillas with cheese, PPC cucumbers, applesauce/PPC bananas

PM snack: Pretzels & string cheese

Wee Sprout: PPC cucumbers
