“A mind when stretched by a new idea never regains its original dimensions.” ~Anonymous

Please Note: We are in need of plastic bags ASAP for all of our wet and stinky diapers. If you have any that you wouldn’t mind sharing with us, we would greatly appreciate your donation. Thanks in advance.

We want to extend a HUGE thanks to Mack and his Mommy for donating some fun books today! All of our friends, including Mack really enjoyed them.

Miss Rebekah captured some really awesome action shots of a couple friends utilizing their gross motor and coordination skills during outside play this morning. Just look at those fast feet!

Good Afternoon!

Our pre-k/k group was very descriptive in their journals this afternoon. Grady dictated to me that he drew a rain cloud and that his dog was outside getting wet. Maxwell focused for a long time on the tree that he was drawing. He drew several, intricate leaves and added two ladders to the tree house towards the end.

We have different levels of writing readiness. Both of our kindergarteners are deep into kid spelling where they’re able to sound out a word and associate which letters they’re hearing. Other friends are working on letter identification while our younger friends dictate to me what they drew which gives us the opportunity to talk about the letters that I’m writing and the sounds associated with those letters.

Our terrarium is coming together nicely! We have made a wonderful home for the insects and bugs that we’ve been able to find outside. In the terrarium, we have several rollie pollies, a couple worms, two crickets, and one cicada. Our friends check on the terrarium periodically throughout the day and share what they’re seeing.

DSCN9606DSCN9607

The rest of our day consisted of building with magnatiles and trio blocks. These building activities allow us an opportunity to converse with friends and use our problem solving skills.

We were able to send a good amount of time outside this morning where we focused on finding new and interesting bugs for our terrarium.

Good Afternoon!

“Knowledge is learning something new everyday. Wisdom is letting go of something everyday. ~ Zen Proverb

In the Wee Wee classroom, we as teachers are always on the lookout for teachable moments with our young toddlers. Once your child gets to a stage in his or her development when they are most receptive to learning a certain concept, we dive in and help them grasp that concept as best we can!

Quite a few of the toddlers in our classroom are really into trucks of all shapes, sizes and makes.  Miss Tami was awesome and bought the classroom over 20 new truck books! Our friends are absolutely LOVING THEM!!!! With that being said, and with all this interest we have been able to find many teachable moments. We talk with our friends and teach them all about what that specific truck does. Whether it is a trash truck, digger, semi truck, police car, fire truck, whatever the case may be, we really enjoy that teachable moment While telling your children all about these wonderful machines.  Smile

Good Afternoon.

“Every child is a different kind of flower, and all together make this world a beautiful garden. ~Dr. Suess

Today the wheels and connectors were a big hit with a few of our friends. These colorful interlocking pieces help us use our hands to manipulate, create, and utilize our fine motor skills, and as always let our imaginations run wild Smile

DSCN6258DSCN6265

We then take our imaginations to the outside world. There is always so much to do and see while we are outdoors. There’s nothing better than fresh air, sunshine and happy children. Children learn through their play, and play is a child’s work!

According to  The Center for Parenting Education, the top three benefits of children learning through their play are as follows.

1. “Play encourages communication.”

2. “Play improves cognitive development.”

3. “Play encourages relationship building.”

Happy Monday! I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.

Please Note: Just a few announcements…. WWF will be CLOSED Monday, September 3rd for the observance of Labor Day.

With some families returning from vacation and summer is coming to an end, I would like to review a few Wee Friend’s procedures. Smile

~ We stop serving breakfast at 9:00 am, if you would like your child to have breakfast, please make sure they are here prior to 9:00 am.

~ We ask that parents park in front of either WF or the WWF house, the parking pad on the side of the WF classroom, or the church parking lot. We try to stay in our neighbors good graces and ask that you do not park on the west side of the street or north or south of WF. The parking lot allows you to have a two minute with your child about their day or their upcoming day!

~ In keeping with parking, we ask that you keep it to a 10 minute limit if you’re parking on the street if front of either house. If you expect to be here longer than 10 minutes, we ask that you use the church parking lot.

~ Wee Friends closes at 5:30 pm which means you should be exiting the front door with your child by 5:30 pm.

Thanks for everyone’s cooperation and we’re looking forward to a fabulous Fall season.

“Broken crayons still color.” ~Love Mom

This morning our friends were very engaged in reading stories with their peers and teachers. I was reading a book called, “The going to bed book.”  Mack found the same exact book so we read it together, keeping the pages the same. Mack was pretty excited that he could read along with me. Smile

In pre-k/k group, we read ‘The Fly Flew In’. On almost every page, we discussed what might happen next. We looked at the pictures to see if it gave us any clues as to what would happen on the following page.

We had several children return from different vacations so children got into the grove of journaling again with their peers. Our two kindergarteners set the example for kid spelling by sounding out every word that they write. As they kid spell, their younger peers are glued into what they’re doing and talk about the letters that they recognize.

DSCN9528DSCN9535

DSCN9536DSCN9525

We spent all morning outside. Children floated from space to space with their peers, becoming increasingly involved in different activities. We had our usual bug finders, art table goers, and children who just needed to run! On the other side of that, a few older peers sat in the shade and got caught up on each other’s lives as a few had been on vacation.

Good Afternoon!

Maddie moved onto the second box of BOB books this morning. After she read all of the books, she noticed that she read a lot of words that ended in ‘-ox’,  ‘-ex’, and ‘-ax’. She asked to get out the second box this morning since, “I’m going to Good Shepherd and I want to read a lot before I go there!”

DSCN9382DSCN9389

Books continued to be a prevalent theme today as children not only read in the reading area but also the science area! Chloe and Ruby got out several science books and looked through them. They specifically looked at the pictures and talked about what they saw.

Good Afternoon!

Pencils have been popular at the art table. Children specifically like how they can erase something unlike markers! Franklin worked on a waterfall and proclaimed, “I’m doing some hard work!”

One of our kindergarteners wrote a seventeen page book today, working hard to kid spell all of the words with little teacher assistance.

DSCN9245DSCN9257DSCN9254

The rest of our morning revolved around books and experimenting in the science area with sensory tubes and different animals/insects.

DSCN9241DSCN9272

This morning was GORGEOUS! Friends were actively engaged the entire time we were outside. Children really activate their imagination with their peers to make up their own game or story.
