Happy Friday! Remember to grab Mothers Day gifts at Pick-up.  They are on the work bench in Science area.

Today was a work day in the garden!  We cooperated to pull out as many weeds as we could and pile them into the yard waste bin.  Some enthusiastic workers used rakes to pull all of the sticks and leaves out of the beds as well!  What a helpful crew!

Inside we played restaurant as we have been talking about community jobs in PREK1.  Paige made a special restaurant sign.  We had several friends making, selling or pretending to consume drinks.  They said they were making Green tea,  lemonade, coffee and grape juice.  Ryan was an excellent cashier and sorted all of the coins.  He loved it so much he kept asking for more money!  Excellent business sense:)

Good Afternoon!

We started off our morning with one of our favorite activities: throwing and chasing after balls. Our friends would bring their ball to one of the teachers, who would then throw it, and our friends would have to chase after it.

IMG_6475(2)IMG_6472(2)IMG_6459(1)IMG_6468(2)IMG_6473(2)

We went into the kitchen to play with playdough and used a variety of tools to engage with it. Ms.Tina showed our younger friends how to use a rolling pin to flatten out their dough and then use a cookie cutter to make a special shape.

After our sensory play activity, we went back into the classroom to dance with silk scarves and to look through the color squares.

Good Afternoon!

**Reminder: Wee Friends is closed on Monday, May 27 for Memorial Day.

We had another lovely morning at the farm for our six oldest kids!  We started out doing some work to help Ms. Charlotte.  We helped her move the chicken tractor to a new place with fresh grass to eat, then we helped shovel manure :).  It was hard work!  We spent some time doing some life drawings of the animals and plants we saw at the farm.  Adrian drew the chickens.  He loved seeing them again!  Katherine drew the farm dog.  Nesta and William drew the big black and white rabbit along with some horses.  Nesta voiced that she was very proud of her horse drawing!  She said it looked just like the horse she was looking at!  One of our friends felt it would be too hard to draw an animals so we looked around until we found something she felt she could draw…the grass.  As she drew the grass she added flowers, the sky, clouds, the sun…and then some animals.  She could draw a lot more than she thought!

IMG_4371(4)IMG_4364(3)IMG_4352(3)IMG_4375(3)

Because of all the activity at the farm today, we didn’t get to the woods.  Hannah voiced a little crossly that “there was really no need to wear those jeans!”.  We thought of something we could do to make it worth the jeans.  We took an off road walk through a field of tall flowers, winding our way down to the pond!  Everyone loved off road walk and some said it was their favorite part!

IMG_4394(4)

At the pond we spent some time looking and listening.  We heard bullfrogs in the lily pads.  Then some swallows flew down and drank from the pond.  The kids were excited to see that since they dip down and take sips while in flight.  We looked down into the water over the dock and saw seaweed, a pond strider and some duck weed.  We also got to talk about balance dividing our weight evenly on both sides of the dock.

Back at Wee Friends, we went outside to enjoy the awesome weather! Our friends love exploring the log area at the back of the yard. It allows us to explore more risky play while also engaging in heavy lifting or a calm quiet space: it’s multi-use!

IMG_2474(4)IMG_2471(3)

Children took turns at the art table outside working with paint dotters! Not only did we get to use our artistic side while outdoors but we also got to take a break in the shade. Some friends chose to use specific colors and place them in a certain order while others goal was to use every color and dot them in a random fashion on their paper.

Good afternoon!

This morning, our friends engaged in a variety of activities. They walked around the habi-trail to go down the slide, made music with their friends, and built with wooden or plastic blocks.

We made our way outside early to beat the rain. We enjoyed sitting at the table with our friends, playing in the sand box, and pushing trucks in the rock area.

Good Afternoon!

We continued to talk about jobs during our PREK1 sign in activity this morning. Children had to come up with a job that adults can do as well as a tool that they would need to do that job. A few friends did this in reverse, sharing “a whistle!” and then having to backtrack to figure out what job would need a whistle.

Social Studies: K.4.2 Identify and describe different kinds of jobs that people do and the tools they use.

We enjoyed so much time outdoors today!  We went out very early since we thought it was going to rain.  The rain ended up holding off and the kids were enjoying themselves so much that we just stayed out.  Being outside all morning allowed some very elaborate games to develop.  A few older friends started building a fort in the log area.  More and more friends began to join in as the game progressed into a monster game.  One friends was the monster and the others were trying to figure out how to keep the monster away from the fort.  They group finally landed on the idea to make a human chain holding hands and then wrap it around the monster until he was trapped in a circle.  Next as a coordinated effort, they moved the circle together across the playground with the monster inside.  The monster found it hysterical!

Good Afternoon!

We began our morning using our imaginative skills as we built with the hollow blocks.  We turned them into lawnmowers and leaf blowers as we pushed them around on the carpet.

IMG_6061(2)IMG_6067(2)IMG_6069(2)IMG_6064(2)

Charlotte and Eden engaged with the Zany Zoo Activity cube.  They were exploring to see what animal was behind the door and spinning the alphabet letters to see the picture of the animal or object that corresponded with the letter they were spinning.

IMG_6116(1)IMG_6118(2)IMG_6120(2)

We then engaged with activities in the front area of the classroom.  We drove the car hauling truck, built with Duplos and the stacking shape train,

IMG_6128(2)IMG_6123(2)IMG_6127(2)IMG_6130(2)IMG_6135(2)

We then headed outside to draw with chalk on the cement and chalkboard, pushed the dump truck through the sand and filled a bucket with rocks using our shovel.
