Good Afternoon!

Our friends engaged in various activities this morning. We danced with silk scarves to the song, Shake Your Sillies Out, walked on a stepping stone path to feel the textures under our feet, and practiced our gross motor skills by climbing the Habi-trail ladder.

IMG_2109(4)IMG_2105(4)IMG_2113(4)IMG_2100(3)IMG_2111(3)IMG_2112(3)

We then made our way into the kitchen to paint. We used different stamps and sponge shapes to make beautiful patterns on our papers. Our friends watched as the colors mixed on their papers to make new colors. We worked on identifying the colors and the shapes of the object we were painting with.

We then headed outside to enjoy the fresh air and warmer weather. Cece got to join us this morning and multiple friends came near to watch her play. We played in the sandbox with shovels and scoops, and rode the bikes down the hill.

PREK1 friends came to the board where they chose a shape! Once they identified the shape, they sorted the shape based on size. They taped it in either the ‘small’ group or the ‘large’ group.

K.RV.2.2: Identify and sort pictures of objects into categories (e.g. colors, shapes, opposites).

IMG_4758(5)IMG_4753(6)IMG_4747(6)

‘The chain making project’ continued and evolved.  We decided to measure our chains today.  We talked about how many inches long our chain was as we lined it up with the numbers on the tape measure.  We also looked at how many feet it was closest to.  Our longest chain was 150 inches long and closest to 12 feet!

PREK2: We read the story ‘The Rabbit Listened’ during group today, a lovely social emotional learning book. We talked about what we remembered from the book afterwards.  Some of us remembered an animal we saw and some remembered what that animal did in the story.  We compiled a class list of what we recalled.

Happy Sunny and Warm Monday!

A friend came in to school talking about an alphabet book they had at home.  So today we got out our letters to stamp or stand in our playdough sensory activity.

IMG_2036(4)IMG_2039(3)IMG_2040(3)IMG_2044(3)

Then we headed out to play with baby dolls.  We worked on taking off the outfit our doll was wearing and putting on a new one.  We also carried our dolls around and fed them bottles.

IMG_2050(4)IMG_2051(4)IMG_2054(4)

We enjoyed watching all the trucks and workers on our street.  We watched the trash truck come and pick up the trash bins, watched them worked on the roof across the street and watch the lawn man spread fertilizer on the front hills.  What an exciting day on our street.

IMG_2055(4)

We then headed outside to enjoy the sunshine and play.

Good Afternoon!

This morning there was interest around finding creative ways to use a few long strips of paper that were in the scrap paper basket.  We added long strips of colorful printed paper to the art center in response.  One friend had linked two strips of paper together to make a chain.  I said, “I wonder how long you could make that if you kept adding more links?”.  Several friends were eager to find out!  Friends enjoyed counting how many links they had as well as finding out if they could make a chain as tall as themselves.

IMG_4556IMG_4579IMG_4604

We spent LOTS of time outdoors today exercising and taking in the fresh warm spring air!

IMG_4680IMG_4628IMG_4621IMG_4679IMG_4678

PREK2: During group we read the story “Cows Can’t Fly”.  We talked about which parts of the story were fictional and which parts were non-fictional.  Older friend have been talking about opposites this week so we explored the idea in our group as well.  We each came up to the board, found our name and what color square was next to it.  Then we looked for its opposite to add to the board.

Happy Friday!

This morning we engaged with the red and yellow sensory beads in the light table.  We talked about how they turned orange with the light with the colors being mixed.  We also picked them up and watched them run through our fingers.  We moved them around to make paths of no beads in certain areas of the table.

IMG_1922(4)IMG_1926(3)IMG_1925(3)IMG_1932(4)IMG_1936(4)IMG_1939(4)

We then headed out to engage with the balls and coins object permanence boxes.  We watched as we put the ball in the hole and the coin in the slot disappear and then reappear in the drawer or tray.

Good Afternoon!

PREK1 children came up the sign in board where they identified their name along with their unique pattern. They said their pattern aloud and then had to complete the pattern by adding a specific colored shape on the line at the end.

K.CA.5: Create, extend, and give an appropriate rule for simple repeating and growing patterns with numbers and shapes.

IMG_4312(4)IMG_4306(6)IMG_4299(6)

This morning we explored an open ended welcome activity that was designed to encourage pattern making and one-to-one correspondence.

IMG_4284(6)IMG_4269(6)

Our younger kids journaled this week about a variety of experiences that matter to them.  Dax and Arthur each had their own take on creating a fire station.  Arthur said his had a ladder, a garage for the trucks and a bell.  Dax shared that his was filled with fire hoses!  Amelia made a picture of herself with Mommy Smile.

IMG_4250(6)IMG_4253(6)IMG_4255(7)

We applied our exploration of color this week in the art center.  We tried mixing our own colors and creating a painting with them.  Paige made a painting of a flower with “every kind of purple”!

Good afternoon!

We started off our morning by exploring the color square pyramid, listening to books in our plastic blocks and engaging with our activity table.

IMG_1833(4)IMG_1836(4)IMG_1840(4)

We then headed to the kitchen for a loose parts activity. Our friends used the tongs, spoons or our hands to pick up the pom poms and dominoes to then transfer into the bowl or cup. A few friends held the dominoes up to their ears and used their imaginative play skills to pretend that it was a phone.

IMG_1841(3)IMG_1842(3)IMG_1853(4)IMG_1849(4)IMG_1843(4)IMG_1846(4)

Miss Bekah brought out a tunnel for our friends to explore. We took turns crawling through the tunnel and then went over to the Habi-trail area where the TinyTurf step-and-slide was.

IMG_1799(3)IMG_1801(4)IMG_1802(4)

We then headed into the kitchen to paint with dot markers on coffee filters. These beautiful masterpieces will be decorating our windows!

IMG_1808(4)IMG_1810(4)IMG_1811(4)IMG_1820(4)IMG_1812(3)

Good Afternoon!

Our PREK1 sign in asked us to complete an AABBCCAABBCC pattern today. Children took their time trying to figure out what colored heart came next in the pattern.

K.CA.5: Create, extend, and give an appropriate rule for simple repeating and growing patterns with numbers and shapes.

IMG_4195(7)IMG_4204(6)IMG_4207(6)

We continued exploring color this morning using primary colored water to mix.  Friends used squeeze bottles filled with the three primary colors to experiment with making secondary colors and their hues.  Hannah discovered that she could add yellow to one side of a long tray filled with blue and watch it slowly fade from yellow to lime green to green to turquoise as it slowly mixed.  It became a great visual representation of how the color changes as it mixes.

IMG_4222(6)IMG_4217(6)IMG_4126(5)IMG_4131(5)IMG_4120(5)

PREK2: Today during group we talked about patterns.  We made a pattern with our hands patting and clapping.  After we read our story “The Napping House” we came up to the board and circled the pattern next to our name.
