Good afternoon!

This morning, our friends held up different colored Magna-tiles up to their faces. Miss Bekah prompted our friends with the question “What color do you see?” as they looked through them. Our friends worked on identifying the colors such as “purple” or “red.”

IMG_4365IMG_4366IMG_4367IMG_4363

Our babies explored different shakers. They held the maracas in their hands and shook them to hear the sound they made.

IMG_4384IMG_4387

Our friends took turns going down the slide while holding hands. They also helped each other fill their buckets with rocks or used trucks to push the rocks.

Good Afternoon!

Our PREK1 friends started their Tuesday off by having to decipher which number was bigger when given two numbers. Friends found their name and identified the four numbers that were written by their name. They had to circle the larger number in both scenarios.

K.NS.7: Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group.

IMG_7819IMG_7824IMG_7826

PREK2:  Today we read “Where the Wild Things Are”.  We learned that since this story is not real, it is a fictional story. We talked about what characters are in a story.  At the end of group time we picked whether we preferred the Max character or a Wild Thing character.

Today we had a special guest come to teach us about the Mid Autumn Moon Festival.  Hannah and her family enjoy celebrating this Chinese holiday and we were lucky to have them share it with our classroom.  Tarryn read two stories called “A Big Moon Cake for Little Star” and “What is the Moon?”.  We got to learn about the festival as well as about the phases of the moon.  At the end everyone got to close their eyes and make a silent wish, which clearly required great concentration :). We got to taste moon pie and Asian pears which are traditionally eaten during the celebration.  What a treat!

IMG_7831IMG_7842IMG_7845

We explored a little science project collecting seeds from our waning zinnias.  We learned that inside each dead flower there are seeds promising new life and more flowers in the spring!  We used magnifying glasses and tweezers to explore.  Then we collected the seeds we needed…along with multiple parts of the flower that we didn’t really need…to save for spring.

Good Afternoon!

This morning we engaged with the hollow blocks and ramps.  We carried them to where we wanted to sit and scoot around on them on the carpet.  We also used the ramps to drive the wooden cars with people down.

IMG_4308IMG_4313IMG_4311IMG_4320

We also switched out the moon sand sensory table for something new.  We brought up our Fall bin that is a corn and black bean mixture. There is also some pine cones and corn cobs in it for us to explore.  We were busy scooping the mixture with many measuring spoons to put the mixture into a cup and pour it out back into the table.  We also talked about how squirrels and other animals like to eat it.

IMG_4332IMG_4333IMG_4334IMG_4338IMG_4340

We then headed outside to work on our balancing skills on the balance beam, take a little break and sit on the bench, engage with toy boats in the sandbox and engage in the rocks with the construction trucks and use our loader bucket to dump rocks into a bucket.

Good Afternoon!

Our PREK1 sign in and group time was centered around the story, ‘The True Story of the Three Little Pigs’. For sign in, children had to write their name under the character that went to each pig’s house in the story. During group, we talked about characters as well as the setting and events that occurred. We talked about the terms in general but also how they relate to the story.

PREK2: Today we introduced the idea of grouping numbers.  We had practiced the concept during activities this morning, then we practiced at group time.  We read the book “Ten Little Fish”.  When we were finished we chose a group of fish to count on the board.  We put our name next to the group we counted.

IMG_7760

This morning at our welcome activity we had three baskets of ten objects.  We worked on counting ten objects from each basket and then counted that we had three groups of ten.

IMG_7709IMG_7703

We also worked on a number groups project this morning using craft materials.  We each picked three cards and glued them to our paper.  We then picked groups of objects to glue to each card to make our number groups.  Younger kids worked on making three groups of three.  Some of the older kids were able to make multiples of three by gluing three objects to the first card and then adding three more to each group consecutively.

Good afternoon!

We engaged in a sensory art activity in the kitchen with Miss Bekah this morning. We were given some shaving cream and then some drops of watercolor for us to mix around with our hands. Miss Bekah then helped us place a paper on top of our mixture to make a ‘print.’

IMG_4205IMG_4206IMG_4208IMG_4209

Eleanor, just like the rest of the babies, loves trying to climb the reading steps. One day they’ll be able to join their older friends at the top!

IMG_4190

We were very helpful to Miss Tami while we were outside. Several friends helped pick weeds from the rock area and then helped take them over to waste bin. Eden enjoyed some outside time today and spent it with her brother.

Good Afternoon!

For sign in, our PREK1 friends had to sort shapes into two groups: zero sided shapes and four sided shapes. We sorted the shapes by similarities and afterwards, children identified the shape and wrote their name next to it.

IMG_7604IMG_7528IMG_7522

We hit on our fourth and final text genre today in PREK1 group: fairytales! We read, ‘Cinderella’ and talked about the characteristics of fairytales. A few friends shared other fairytale books and movies such as Beauty and the Beast and Frozen.

IMG_7605IMG_7611IMG_7610

PREK2:  Today we read the story “Bear Feels Scared” at group.  We each chose what would help us most for feel better: Ask for a hug, talk about it with a teacher/parent or play with friends.  We put our name up under our choice on on the board.

IMG_7614

At our welcome activity this morning we practiced different ways of sorting.  Arthur enjoyed using his small tongs to find the smallest bead and put it in the smallest jar then doing this with medium and large.  Ryan, who was looking on, was happy to jump in and help when Arthur was looking for the various sizes.  They worked together to solve the size puzzle!  Some older friends chose to sort by color.  Nesta and Hannah asked for more and more containers as they found they had a complex assortment of colors to categorize!

IMG_7519IMG_7518IMG_7498IMG_7538

In the sensory bin this morning friends enjoyed exploring ice blocks of different shapes and sizes.  We used tongs to try the slippery challenge of putting them in order from large to small.  William said he wanted to turn the ice into water and tried several ways of doing this, including chopping the ice into pieces.  We settled on an eye dropper to pour water over the ice, which was warmer and helped to melt it.  It was a fun way to experiment with water properties.
