Happy Friday!

This week, we’ve been practicing counting by 10’s to 100. After our PREK1 friends counted to 100 by 10’s this morning, they wrote their name on the sign in sheet. In group, we read a book titled, ‘Spend It!’ which is a story surrounding allowance and how to go about spending it! The term ‘want’ was talked about a lot and within the story, we got a chance to practice our counting by 10’s to 100 as there were ten groups of ten carrots!

We also got a chance to talk about the library and how librarians categorize books! We looked at the book that we read in group and found the authors last name. We talked about how the authors last name started with an ‘M’ so it would be categorized with others books where the authors last name started with M!

K.NS.1: Count to at least 100 by ones and tens.

K.1.19: Learn and apply knowledge of alphabetical order (first letter) when using a classroom or school library/media center.

This morning we spent some time with our tadpoles…That’s right they are still here:)  They have a long three month metamorphosis and these were a late hatch collected from Ms Linseys pond.  We observed today that the tadpoles had sprouted legs which was exciting.  We all spent time watching them through magnifying glasses to get a look at the new legs.  Several friends made recordings in their tadpole life cycle journal, drawing what they saw as well as verbalizing what they saw.  Older friends were able to sound out and kid spell some of the words they wanted to record in their journal.  There were a couple of friends who added what they would like to see in the tadpole tank.  One friend made a castle for the tadpoles and another added bunny ears because the new legs reminded her of a bunny.  We got a chance to talk about observational drawing vs imaginative drawing and how we were combining the two in some of the drawings we made.

PREK2: In group today we read “May there always be Sunshine”.  After the story we talked about things that we hoped would always be there because those things are special to us.  We could chose something from the story or we could chose something of our own.

**As the weather gets colder, we ask that you please bring labeled hats and gloves/mittens to keep in your child’s cubby, thank you.**

Good afternoon!

This morning we engaged in various activities. We read books, worked with the nesting rainbow squares, explored the cube, worked on pulling ourselves up to a standing position, and danced with our friends while holding hands.

IMG_6316IMG_6317IMG_6319IMG_6327IMG_6344IMG_6359

We made our way to the kitchen with Miss Bekah to take turns with two different activities. While some friends worked on pounding golf tees into the pumpkin with a wooden hammer, others engaged with loose parts (pom poms, wooden bowls, tongs, and spoons).

IMG_6367IMG_6368IMG_6372IMG_6376

We then headed outside to enjoy the sunshine. We played with trucks in the sandbox and went down the slide with our friends.

Good afternoon!

This morning we explored loose parts with magnets and tweezers.  We practiced moving the magnetic fishing pole slowly and purposefully as we worked on our focus and concentration.  We talked about which objects could be picked up by the magnet, also how the objects were the same and how they were different.  Arthur found that the caps for the jars fit into the magnetic attraction category.  When we finished the activity we practiced our sorting skills as we each  sorted all like things into the four compartments.

IMG_0230IMG_0229IMG_0235IMG_0255

We enjoyed exploring all kinds of natural objects one might find outside in the fall.  We sorted acorns, pine cones, sticks, rocks, hickory nuts and buckeyes as we found ways to create imaginative play.

IMG_0233IMG_0247IMG_0259

…and of course art center and building rug were as popular and productive as ever!

Happy November!  It sure came in cold and snowy, at least it will not stay that way just yet.

This morning several friends were engaged in different activities on the Zany Zoo Activity box.  Eliza worked to move the beads across the metal wire, Dax and Hannah spun and looked at the alphabet letters and the picture that coincided with that letter.

IMG_6261IMG_6262IMG_6263IMG_6264IMG_6266

We engaged in the corn/bean sensory table.  We added some regular spoons and tongs to work on picking up the corn/bean mixture, pine cones and corn cobs with them.  Dax was busy shaking the gourd which made noise from the seeds inside as he shook it.

IMG_6282IMG_6283IMG_6285IMG_6281

We were busy climbing on the tiny turf mat/slide, jumping off the plastic blocks and made an obstacle course as we lined up the plastic blocks to walk on, then climb up the ladder and went down the slide.

IMG_6287IMG_6290IMG_6291IMG_6297IMG_6301IMG_6306IMG_6304IMG_6303

We then drove our cars down the wooden ramps or made a road with the thin wooden blocks to drive them down.

IMG_6309IMG_6310IMG_6311

Eden worked on standing with and without support.

Welcome to November!

Our friends were VERY excited to go out and play in the snow today! Please HELP us by:

*Boldly LABELING all your child’s items.

*Providing WATERPROOF MITTENS (NO gloves as they cannot get them on and off independently).

*Making sure your child has everything they will need here for outside play in cold & wet weather: a warm coat, boots, a hat, mittens, and snow pants

*If you want to take items home daily, they will generally be found hanging on our clothes line at the back of the classroom other than their coats.  Having snow pants and mittens that stay with us is ideal.

Thank you parents for coming to the Halloween parade yesterday afternoon!  The kids were so excited to show off their wonderful  consumes to parents and friends!  If you want to check out more pictures from Halloween there are more in the photo album for today.

Everyone enjoyed a wide range of activities today.  There were requests for more witches brew in the sensory bin so we gave it another day for the kids to enjoy.  We also made several large collaborative partner paintings this morning.  Friends who who wanted to make a giant painting picked a partner.  Then the pair made one painting for themselves and one for their partner to take home.  We also enjoyed plenty of building and playdough.  We wrapped up the morning with a romp in the seasons first snow!

Happy Halloween!

This morning our friends worked on lining up wooden blocks in a straight line so that others could practice their balancing skills on them.

IMG_6176IMG_6168IMG_6169

Eden and Eleanor showed great sharing skills! They would take turns passing a spoon back and forth. They also worked on crawling and trying to pull themselves up on the play kitchen counter.

IMG_6175IMG_6181IMG_6182

We made our way to the kitchen to engage with playdough and use different Halloween-themed cookie cutters. Each friend got a different shape such as a witch, a bat, and a pumpkin.

IMG_6200IMG_6201IMG_6202IMG_6205IMG_6199

Happy Monday!

This morning William decided he was going to interview the entire class to find out what everyone’s favorite color was.  He created a chart all by himself with a dot of each color that his class mates could choose from.  He asked each friend and made a check mark next to the chosen color.  As he worked,  other friends noticed what he was doing and decided to collect their own data.  Later we each made a graph of all of the collected data to find out what it told us about our classrooms color preferences.

Good Afternoon!

We began our morning climbing on the habi-trail ladder, going down the slide, looking through the color rings, driving the bulldozer and car hauling truck around the carpet and building with the hollow blocks.

IMG_6101IMG_6127IMG_6112IMG_6129IMG_6116IMG_6130

We then headed into the kitchen for a sensory experience with our big pumpkin.  Miss Bekah cut it open for us to explore the pulp and seeds. We each reached in to grab some and pull it out.  Dax said “uck” at first, but then when he began to play with it he said, “sticky”.  Miss Bekah also used other descriptive words to help us describe the feeling of it like cold, gooey and slimy.

IMG_6136IMG_6137IMG_6140IMG_6143IMG_6145IMG_6144IMG_6147IMG_6149

We then bundled up and headed outside.  We ran around the circle, scooped, dug and drove the dump truck in the sandbox and since it is Monday, we got the see the trash truck come down our street!
