Good afternoon!

Our babies were full of smiles and silliness today! Eleanor kept lifting her shirt to cover her eyes to play peek-a-boo with her friends. Eden shook her toy to hear the rattle inside and smiled at her teachers.

We asked our friend Emily to choose the activity she wanted to do today and she said “dot markers!.” We made our way outside with Ms.Tina to paint with the markers under the shade. We all made wonderful art pieces with so many different colors!

Happy Wednesday!

It was a creative day!  A child lead art experiment took form this morning in the art center!  We started a request for glue.  Paige has been particularly active in the art center and wanted to work on a collage.  Rowan quickly joined and the two were more interested in making designs with the glue that gluing on objects.  From there we tried filling some squeeze bottles with paint and allowing then to run with it!  This drew the interest of quite a few other friends as it developed and turned into a productive morning of art experimentation.  We are very proud of out older kids reminding our younger ones to make shapes instead of puddles:)

IMG_4311IMG_4310IMG_4309IMG_4307IMG_4300IMG_4306

Arthur was quite the marble run engineer this morning!  He made a three level working marble run all by himself.  He had a group of older kids gather around him and ask to try his marble run.  He was very kind letting friends try it out.  What an accomplishment for such a young Wee Friend!  The marble runs have been popular for lots of friends lately!  There has been a great deal of trial and error as well as sharing of ideas on the building rug!

This morning we spent some quality time engaged in a book on the reading step with several of our friends.

IMG_2250(1)IMG_2251(1)IMG_2254(1)IMG_2253(1)

We then headed into the kitchen to work on our puzzle skills.  We worked to manipulate our puzzle piece to fit in its place in the board after we matched the colors or pictures together.

IMG_2259(1)IMG_2262(1)IMG_2261(1)IMG_2263(1)IMG_2267(1)

We then headed outside to engage in some water play with sea animals, plastic boats and small containers to use to scoop and pour the water.  Eliza drove her school bus around the cement with Little People passengers inside.  Dax explored a little stick he found that he could hold between two fingers.

Eliza and Dax engaged with the object permanence boxes. They worked on putting either balls or coins through a slot and then they switched boxes so that they could each have a turn.

Good afternoon families! What a beautiful Monday!

We welcomed our new friend Albert and his family  to Wee Friends today!

IMG_4159IMG_4108

Outside this  morning, the sandbox became the site of a huge land building project!  Some of the first friends outside noticed quite a bit of erosion had taken place over the weekend.  We talked about how the large amounts of rain water from the storms had caused the wash out everyone was interested in.  This spired a lot of interest in experimenting with erosion using water.  A group began a lake and river building project immediately.  It turned into tiered lakes, connecting channels and water falls.  This project brought out some incredible team work as well.  A couple of leaders directed and a growing group of friends created an assembly line for pumping buckets of water to bring to the project.  Another group rounded up all of the shovels for digging holes and connecting them with channels.  A couple of our youngest friends were mesmerized simply watching the process unfold!  It turned out to be an experimental learning project as well as a lesson in team work.  All of it imagined, organized and brought to fruition by children!

IMG_4150IMG_4139IMG_4137IMG_4155IMG_4159

Inside we enjoyed experimenting with magnets.  Some of our newest friends have been very interested in the magnetic  building toys in science center.  We have noticed them trying to stick the magnets to different objects.  So this morning we set out some different magnets and metal pieces to explore.  William was particularly interested in one of the objects and began asking questions about how it was used in real life.  It turned out to be a climbing carabiner.  We talked about how it is a safety device used to clip on and hold ropes in place while rock climbing.  He went on to try attaching it to several different objects.  He also taught other friends about its use, which he found intriguing.
