Good Afternoon!

This morning we were very intrigued by what the squirrel was doing, so we stood at the window to watch.  We first noticed him hanging from the neighbors bird feeders.  He then scampered into the garden under some plants and we could barely see him.  He then found a nut and enjoyed eating it in the grass.  We had so much fun watching him.

We then enjoyed listening to some new teacher books.  Our friend, Daniel, from the other classroom and his family donated some books he has outgrown to both classrooms.  We have really enjoyed listening to the teachers read them to us.  Thank you for thinking of us.

After working on a special surprise in the kitchen with Miss Tina, we all headed over to roll or toss our balls with Miss Bekah.  We worked on listening for our names as Miss Bekah called them to let us know it was our turn to roll or toss our ball to her.

IMG_0862IMG_0865IMG_0863

We then headed outside to get some fresh air and engage in our favorite activities.  We rocked on the teeter totters with a friend, cooked in the play kitchen, looked for bugs around the garden, drew with markers at the art table, hopped on the stepping stones, worked on our balancing while walking on the balance beam and went down the slide.  What a busy morning!

Good Afternoon!

Loose parts are a common activity lately in our classroom! Children love getting to explore a mixture of materials without any set rules or procedure. The materials are made available to them and depending on the child’s way of thinking and processing of events, children use the materials in very different ways! We also added new trays and that always adds a new and interesting dynamic to the activity.

We beat the rain and thankfully got lots of outside time this morning. The bugs were out and about and several roly polies were found! Children sure did get out some energy as most kids spent the first few minutes running around the outdoor environment. The cool air was a nice change the last few days.

Good Afternoon!

**Wee Friends will be closed for summer vacation starting Wednesday, June 28th through Friday, July 7th. We’ll reopen Monday, July 10.

Today several friends where excited to explore straws in the art center and come up with varying ideas about how to used them.  Some taped them together to make shapes.  The most popular idea was to create puppets out of tape straws and paper.  As one friends began to to this many other wanted to try too.  Everyone put their own ideas into the puppet making.  It was fun to watch what each other did and combine ideas in an almost collaborative puppet making project.

Happy Friday!

Emily asked Miss Bekah for the Bear Hunt song.  After listening to it, she asked for the We’re Going On A Bear Hunt book by Michael Rosen.  While she was reading it, we acted out the motions for each page like we do when listening to the song.

Good Afternoon Families!

This morning we all had a wonderful time at the “Lemonade Stand”.  This activity will be back tomorrow morning.  Even though this imaginative play area was opened all morning, friends stayed to play so long that many of us have not gotten a turn yet!  We are always thrilled to see young learners so engaged and happy to keep an activity going as long as interest persists.  Our yellow tinted water in combination with our lemons and lemon slices seemed so real it was like we were actually making lemonade, mixing it and pouring it for our friends.  One friend even created and performed a lemonade party song, complete with dance moves, for everyone at the table!

To help with our Wee Friends that were waiting for a chance to make lemonade, we also created an ice cream shop with play dough.  We talked about pretending that we were different vendors selling summer treats next to one another.

Good Afternoon!

Reminder: Wee Friends will be closed for summer vacation starting Wednesday, June 28th through Friday, July 7th. We’ll reopen Monday, July 10th. Thanks.

The art center today became mixture  language arts and creative play where children were excited to work on phonics and spelling!  Several friends created books using a set of letter stamps and stamp rollers.  One of our younger friends stamped her name in order for the first time today.  Daniel was making a book about a foot army versus an ant army…which was obviously a good read!  Millie was partial to a checker board pattern so her book was about checker boards.  Maggie made a book about everything!  All ages did a wonderful job finding their letters and stamping their names.  Some also went on to spell out the names of  family members in their books!

IMG_1917IMG_1913IMG_1908

Today we introduced a book about trilobites based on some child interest in them.  Imogen and Hannah chose to journal about trilobites.  They each drew one in their journal today.  Both girls went on to do their own journal writing as well!  I would bet there are not many four year old’s out there learning to spell the word Trilobite!

IMG_1950 (2)IMG_1949

Daniel finally made the right modifications to his back pack design so he could put it on and use it as a real (light weight) back pack!  Nice work Daniel!

This morning we went into the kitchen to make pictures with dot markers.  The friends used a variety of colors to create their colorful masterpieces.  Each friend made multiple pictures.

The art center was transformed into a bag making center today!  Yesterday Hannah made a beautiful purse in the art center using just tape, paper and markers.  Maggie who was watching, wanted to make one too.  Hannah was happy to show her how she made it and Maggie was over joyed with hers when finished!  This morning Maggie came in to school ready to make a Purse for her sister and set to it right away.  When Daniel and Bo saw this project going on, they modified the idea into a back pack project.  Both boys were excited to work on the back packs together and through trial and error, arrived at a good design!  It was such a wonderful child created and lead project learning about creative design, teaching and working together!
