Happy Monday!

REMINDER: Wee Friends will be CLOSED Friday, March 30th in observance of the Good Friday holiday.

We were finally able to go outside and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. What a fantastic way to get our week started. Our friends were very excited and more than happy to get their coats, hats and gloves on this morning.

There are many choices for our little ones in the outdoor environment, with just as many learning opportunities. Our friends can utilize their gross and fine motor capabilities  as well as their sensory skills. We LOVE being outside. Smile

During our inside play today, we were actively engaged in play dough. Our friends use their imagination skills as well as their fine motor skills to make all sorts of creations.

Happy Friday!

This morning a few of our friends decided it was time to “go on break” and bring baskets of food with them. Mack and Emma found it hysterical to grab as much as they could from the kitchen, along with their phones and take a lunch break like their teachers do. Emma even said, “Oh I can’t forget my cell phone today. Mack, come on!”

We also had some greater helpers when trying to clean our toys today. They were excited to help and work hard with each other to keep our school germ free!

Happy Monday!

**Just as a reminder, we are closed this Friday, March 30th. Thank you!

In pre-k/k group, we read ‘The Shape of Me and Other Stuff’ by Dr. Seuss. Throughout the story, children noted various words that rhymed. After we finished the story, Maddie read five words for us: lip, bed, see, bean, and bug. Together, we came up with rhyming words by changing the beginning consonant sound. We wrote down words and nonsensical words!

K.RF.3.5: Add, delete, or substitute sounds to change words.

DSCN0150DSCN0151

During naptime, Maddie interacted with a ‘word family’ activity. Maddie had to determine what consonant sound to put at the beginning of each word. For example, ham, jam, and ram are in the same word family and the beginning consonant sound gets changed each time to change the word as well as the meaning of the word.

K.RF.3.5: Add, delete, or substitute sounds to change words.

The light table was made available in the science area this morning where we worked with a plethora of materials. We worked on things such as patterns, comparison, and using descriptive words.

Our older children worked on adding numbers together to get to the number 10. Lucy and Maddie were given six seashells. Together, they worked to see how many more seashells they would need to get to 10!

K.CA.4: Find the number that makes 10 when added to a given number from any number from 1 to 9 (e.g., by using objects or drawings), and record the answer with a drawing or an equation.

DSCN0105DSCN0123

Lucy made an L for her name using a pattern before she took on the Eiffel Tower using colored counters.

DSCN0118DSCN0130

Miss Melinda got a new book over the weekend called ‘Welcome to the Symphony’. We found out that a couple of friends have this book at home! As Miss Melinda read it for the first time, children found out what sounds and instruments are in a symphony.

Good Afternoon!

Several children interacted with the welcome activity this morning. Using tongs, children sorted puff balls into two different glass jars: small and big. A few of our older kids took it one step further by counting the number of puff balls in each jars after they got done sorting them.

DSCN9928DSCN9933

The welcome activity allowed children to explore their fine motor skills as well as using descriptive words to describe each puff ball. We looked at the color of the balls as well as the size.

I’ve attached an article with a few tips on how to strengthen children’s fine motor skills:

DSCN9935DSCN9961DSCN9962

We headed outside where children ran throughout the outdoor environment, pretending to be different animals!

Maddie asked if there was something we could do together. So, she and I looked around the outside environment for items with one, two, or three syllables! We found it rather easy to find items that had only one syllable (bush, grass, log, sand) while finding three syllable words tended to be a little more challenging.

Good afternoon!

Friendships are an important key factor in every child’s development. Whether they maintain a solid friendship with just one friend or many friends, it’s always refreshing to see the relationships that are being built with our little guys.

Good Afternoon!

Maddie explored word families this morning using plastic eggs! She turned the egg to make different words and using her background knowledge of consonant and vowel sounds, she was able to read the words in each family. For example, she read b-in, f-in, s-in, p-in, and m-in.

DSCN9923DSCN9926

We’re always looking for new items to paint with. Up to bat today was..balloons! Emoji balloons to be exact. Children looked at the different faces that were on the balloons before we started painting with them. We used the balloons in a couple of different ways: pounding the balloon onto the paper and taking the balloon and swirling the paint around the paper.

Good afternoon!

Our Wee Wee Friends decided they wanted to do something a little different today! The waffle blocks are always a fun choice and have a multi learning experience to make it even better. This activity enhances our friends hand-eye coordination, color recognition and the use of their fine motor skills. Mack, Emma and Pascale all had a great time building with them this morning.

Zoe also had a full morning, just like her friends. She enjoys her breakfast and is all smiles while receiving it from Miss Rebekah. She then moves onto the bouncer and finds it to be a fantastic way to have a little entertainment. Last but not least, she loves to play with the colorful and soft play fruits. Our babies love explore and learn through their play!

We opened up ‘Wee Friends Library’ in pre-k/k group. After reading ‘Elmer and Snake’, we looked at four library books and worked as a team to put them in alphabetical order using the author’s last name. We used our knowledge of authors and illustrators as well as the order of the alphabet to get the job done! We paid close attention to the first letter of the author’s last name and put them into order.

Before completing our daily calendar exercise, we counted by ten’s up to 100! Our two kindergarten friends counted aloud first before their younger peers joined in on the second round.

K.1.19: Learn and apply knowledge of alphabetical order (first letter) when using a classroom or school library/media center. (2006 standard)

K.NS.1: Count to at least 100 by ones and tens.

It was a morning full of exploration!

Max and Grady explored different inclines to see on which incline the car would travel the fastest. Max made a comment related to the speed of the car: “The blue car moves faster when I tip it like this!”

DSCN9860DSCN9858

An art activity was made available this morning that got the attention of several friends! Each child got a printout of an egg. First, they painted shaving cream onto their egg before using eye droppers to add various water colors to their creation. Children used the eye dropper to drop big and small dots of water color onto their paper, waiting to see the different between each.
