Good Afternoon!

In pre-k/k group, we read, ‘Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons’. The story focused on subtraction with numbers under 4. Pete the Cat started out with four buttons on his jacket and he started off by losing one button. After we read this, many children commented on how Pete had three buttons now. Pete kept losing one button each time until he had zero buttons left! Each time, we talked about how many buttons Pete had.

After the story was over, we started discussing the number 100 and the different ways we can count to 100. Today, we started working on counting to 100 by ten’s. A few of our older friends already have this skill so they helped their younger friends today. Everyday this week, we’ll work on this skill before doing calendar!

K.NS.1: Count to at least 100 by ones and tens.

Everyday, children have the CHOICE to do a journal, paint at the art easel, or read a story. Children make choices for themselves throughout the day based on their interests and what their body may need at any given time. This allows meaningful learning experiences to occur because they’re not FORCED to do something but rather they WANT to do something.

We make the activities and experiences available; children choose whether or not to come. If a child is involved, focused, and thriving with trio blocks, we’re certainly not going to pull them away from that to come do an art project that they may not be interested in at that time. Instead, a teacher may sit with this child and his trio block creation and start up a conversation about what he’s creating.

Good Afternoon!

Playing peek-a-boo is a popular activity with our friends.  We find many areas and items to use to play it.

We enjoyed shaking and placing the dancing scarves on our heads as we danced with them.

Good Afternoon!

**Just a reminder: Wee Friends will be closed Friday, March 30th. Thanks!

The art area was full of children transferring ideas to paper.

Grady took his finger to trace letters before writing them on a piece of paper while Ruby and David painted at the easel. Several younger friends asked to do a journal which prompted more conversations about our letters and the sounds that they make.

We moved our bodies in a positive, engaging way as we listened to music. First, we simply danced and fulfilled our gross motor urges before playing different instruments to add to the music.

Good Afternoon!

We started our day on the music rug. Some of the kids requested songs, and then performed their own dance moves. After they finished dancing, most of kids headed to the art table, where they got out colored tape. Some children decided to make shapes and designs. Maxwell created a house out of the tape, while Anna said she made a treehouse.

Even though it was sunny outside, the kids enjoyed their time inside playing and building with the trio blocks. Some of our friends like to stay focused and concentrate for hours while creating towers, buildings, and complex vehicles.

Good Afternoon Wee Friend families, we hope you’re having a great day!

Today, our friends had a new and exciting sensory activity. Miss Rebakah put together a mixture of water and baking soda.  Aggie and Daniel were both very intrigued. When running your fingers through the gooey goop, it can either be runny or hard. It’s a very fun way to get our hands dirty.

Sometimes at Wee Wee friends, we just need snuggles! Teachers are ALWAYS happy to snuggle away. Whether it’s sitting together engaged in conversation, singing, or even snuggled up reading a books…. it’s definitely a favorite part of everyone’s day!

Good afternoon!

Daniel and Pascale enjoyed the sound cylinders. The various cylinders that the classroom provides have different materials in them to make the sounds that our friends hear. Some are quiet as feathers, and some are loud like bells. While our friends are engaged in this activity, they are using their hand-eye coordination, as well as their sense of hearing.

Fine motor activities are always a big hit with our little ones. The pegs have multiple ways to incorporate learning experiences.  The recognition of colors, hand-eye coordination and the understanding of various shapes are all educational learning tools that help each of our friends achieve many of their milestones.

Good Afternoon!

This morning, children came to the art table for an exploration using play dough and plastic eggs. There were no set rules or regulations so children dove into the activity and used the two materials in every which way.

A few of our older friends turned it into a building activity where they used the play dough as a binding agent to build. They took pieces of play dough and attached eggs together using the play dough.

Dinosaur egg fossils were created as well as an egg pizza! A basic activity for all developmental levels resulted in a creativity boom!

Good Afternoon!

In pre-k/k group, we read, ‘The Revenge of the Magic Chicken’. Before we read the story, we talked about punctuation and the three different punctuation marks that we see as well as what they’re used for. Throughout the story, we pointed out the different punctuation marks that we talked about. I read a couple of sentences with an exclamation point and showed what an exclamation point does to a sentence!

Our journal experience was full of children pushing their boundaries, sharing their ideas, and collaborating with peers.

K.W.6.2b: Punctuation—Recognizing and naming end punctuation.

The excitement of journaling has filtered down to our younger friends. For the last couple of weeks, children have been asking to journal. Our younger children have been getting the hang of the journaling process. We love putting our ideas and thoughts on paper and getting to put a sticker and a date stamp on after!
