Monday, December 20th through Friday, December 31st.

Mack and Evie rounded out the week by identifying the verb in a sentence. I read them five sentences and they had to circle the action verb!

K.W.6.1b: Verbs–Writing sentences that include verbs.

In K/PREK1 group, we read ‘The Thankful Book’ which gave us several examples of things that people are thankful for. Once we finished the story, each friend got the opportunity to share what they are thankful for.

In PREK2 group, explored rhyming words. There were several cards that belonged in pairs. Each group member got the chance to match a few rhyming words.

Good Afternoon and Happy Friday!

This morning Paige and an older friend were chasing one another by crawling as quickly as they could around the habi-trail landing. They both were in such a joyous moods and full of laughter and smiles. It’s always a wonderful feeling and sight to see our older friends engaging with our smaller friends.

Emily has been enjoying reading to herself with the books from the classroom bookshelf. She will get out a few books to look through and then work on putting them back onto the book shelf.

We work diligently with our friends to achieve putting their books and other activities around the classroom back in their correct spots before going to another area to play with something different.

PB120149PB120155

We also enjoyed engaging in the sensory table today! We have added Arthur and Emma’s old formula scoops in the corn and bean mixture for some extra fun. They are smaller in size compared to some of our other scooping items, so it’s always fun to compare just how much of the mixture can be scooped up in the different scoopers.

Good Afternoon!

Happy 5th birthday, Daniel! We are super glad we were able to help you celebrate your birthday! Can’t wait to see what year 5 has in store for you!

DSCN5303DSCN5255

After reading, ‘Rainbow Fish’ in K/PREK1 group, we gathered in a circle to explore math equations where the total was 10 in each equation. In each equation, the second number was missing so we used colored counters to figure out the missing number.

In any group setting with children who are mixed ages, scaffolding usually occurs. We are able to meet children where they’re at, challenging them instead of frustrating them. A few children needed help writing the number in the blank space so I dotted the number for them, offering them a chance to participate while working on number formation.

K.CA.4: Find the number that makes 10 when added to the given number for any number from 1 to 9 (e.g., by using objects or drawings), and record the answer with a drawing or an equation.

In PREK2, children helped Miss Kim complete the ‘Tom the Turkey’ poem. There were various words that were missing. All of these words happened to be verbs so children worked together to come up with a verb that made sense in the poem!

The rest of our day focused around an art activity at the table and some outside time before it started raining! Tons of table top games were explored while other children chose to utilize alone spaces for some down time. It was a full morning!

Good Afternoon.

This morning a friend climbed up the ladder and wanted to end her climbing adventure by doing a silly dismount. She laughed very hard at herself and continued to keep going with this same dismount. Smile

Going down the slide is just as fun. There’s many ways we enjoy going down. We go down on our bellies, our bottoms, even backwards at times.

We got outdoors a little earlier to beat the rain. We still got caught in it, but had a great time enjoying the outdoors while we could.

Good Afternoon!

Mack and Evie created four word families for their kindergarten sign in. They worked with the words ball, mail, tin, and fan. For each word, they had to come up with two rhyming words. They wrote the words down and then we talked about the letters that were present in all three words, making the three words a ‘word family’.

K.RF.3.5: Add, delete, or substitute sounds to change words.

DSCN5179DSCN5198

They used their understanding of ‘word families’ in K/PREK1 group as they helped their younger peers create word families. Friends were quick to shout out a word that rhymed! Once we had our two rhyming words, we underlined the letters that were the same in each word. Children quickly noticed that the endings of each group were the same.

Good Afternoon!

We finished reading, ‘Freckle Juice’ today in K/PREK1 group! Afterwards, we started talking about numbers and how they are in a specific order. We looked at the five numbers on the chalkboard, identified them, and then worked together to fill in the blank spaces. We wrote the number that comes before and after each number that we said aloud.

K.NS.3: Find the number that is one more than or one less than any whole number up to 20.

Mack and Daniel explored the light table. Mack took the initiative to get out the colored shapes. He also got out a game board and made up his own game! Mack shared direct and specific instructions when Daniel sat down to play with him.

DSCN5084

One of our favorite table top games is a wooden activity that has ramps, balls, and various materials. It is completely open ended and children can explore the activity how they wish.

This morning, friends used this game in a variety of ways such as building vertically to practice balancing while others used the materials to work on one to one correspondence, matching up one ball to one cylinder.

It was quite the active morning outside! There was a lot of running, climbing, and jumping!

We have several spaces in the outdoor and indoor environment that require a little more focus out of our children to make sure their body is safe. What’s a phrase adults use when cautioning children to pay attention to where their body is? “Be careful!”—I often say this a lot and have tried to cut it out of my vocabulary, trying to be more direct and truthful, using statements that may help a child consider what they’re about to attempt.

Here’s a situation that Teacher Tom went through and thought I’d shared his thoughts!

Good Afternoon.

This morning we had a dance party to the song “Let it Go” requested by one of our two year old’s. Anna and Elsa are very popular these days with our older girls. Our little ones even enjoy  the music. Smile

We then had a block party while singing, Row Row your Boat! Friends wiggled their bodies into the colorful blocks as if they were sitting in a boat and rowed their arms. Arthur and Emma joined in as well.

We then engaged in a sensory activity. We got our hands and fingers full of soft, fluffy shaving cream. Leaves were added in from outdoors to make this activity more interesting. PB091421PB091423

Happy Monday!

**Reminder: we need updated shot records for your child by Monday, January 3rd. Thanks!

Mack and Evie were introduced to verbs today for their kindergarten sign in. They each had a word bank with several verbs. Their job was to place each verb into the correct sentence. They used context clues in the sentences to determine which word went into each sentence.

K.W.6.1b: Verbs–Writing sentences that include verbs.

IMG_2908IMG_2911

We continued working with verbs in K/PREK1 group. Children again used context clues to figure out which sentence the verb went into. When I read a sentence using the wrong verb, it elicited some laughter as the sentence definitely didn’t make sense! For example, ‘Cassie hikes at the art table’ when the sentence should read ‘Cassie draws at the art table’.

K.W.6.1b: Verbs–Writing sentences that include verbs.

In PREK2, children stacked Legos while working with one to one correspondence. Each child had a few numbers that were given to them and they had to create Lego towers with the exact numbers that were in front of them.
