Good Afternoon!

We read ‘The Tiny Seed’ in K group today which coincided with our activity/conversation starter. The Tiny Seed is a story about the cycle that a seed goes through before it gets settled into the ground where roots are started, leading into it becoming a plant!

Once the story was finished, we looked at a diagram of the plant life cycle and the specific steps a seed takes before it becomes an adult plant.

Science: K.4.2 Observe plants and animals, describing how they are alike and how they are different.

Kindergarteners completed their sign in activity which focused on the specific area in our classroom where we can find books about plants and animals (the science area!). Next, they had to write what genre these books belong to—everyone quickly responded “nonfiction!”.

In PREK2 group, friends talked about specific habitats and what types of animals live in each habitat!

Miss Kim set up an activity in the art area this morning that allowed us to move a body a little! In the bin, littles balls were placed with a piece of paper and a couple different paint colors. Once the bin was closed tight, they either sat down or stood up and shook the container which moved the paint and balls all around. All of the finished art pieces had various designs on it depending on how soft or hard the bin was shaken!

The sunshine greeted us as we headed outside this morning. A few friends camped out in the housekeeping area, using weeds from around the yard to add to their play. The rock area was a busy place as children worked together to fill trucks with rocks. We got the bikes out which is one of our favorite outdoor activities. We LOVE our balance bikes.

Happy Monday!

We read, ‘Kindness Grows’ in K group (it’s an AWESOME story). It elicited a ton of conversation, especially about the illustrators choices of shades and colors to tell the story.

Afterwards, we created a list of living and non-living things. Each child came up with an example for each category. We talked about the similarities and differences between the two groups.

Science: K.4.2 Observe plants and animals, describing how they are alike and how they are different.

For kindergarten sign in, children had to write down two things that animals need to survive as well as two things that plants need to survive. Once they wrote these things down, they looked to see if there was an answer they had for both plants and animals. Water seemed to be the most popular as plants and animals need water to survive.

During PREK2, children chatted about plants and what makes plants special and unique!

We spent a ton of time outside today, exploring and looking for bugs! With all of the rain we got this weekend, we were finding rollie pollies left and right!

Good Afternoon!

This morning a parent shared that one of our friends was really into books by Dr. Seuss over the weekend.  We only have the book, In A People House that our friends love.  So, we went to the other classroom and borrowed some of their Dr. Seuss stories for us to enjoy.

We then enjoyed reading and acting out the book, There Were Ten In The Bed.  It is a Sing and Read Storybook by Scholastic, illustrated by Susan Chapman Calitri.  We used the big pillow from the reading area to pretend was our bed.  Each friend was given a turn to act out the rolling off the pillow part like the puppies do in the story while Miss Bekah sang the song.

Happy Friday!

This morning we engaged in a color matching and sorting game.  We used the colored circles and had to go around the classroom and find an item to bring back and place it in the circle that matches the color of the item.

Good Afternoon!

After reading, ‘The Kissing Hand’, in K group, we all got a chance to say what our favorite animal is and why. Friends shared their favorite animal and one characteristic that the animal possesses that makes them special or unique. Our favorite animals range from tiger to bat to various dinosaurs.

Science: K.4.1 Give examples of plants and animals.

DSCN1140DSCN1143

For kindergarten sign in, children had to draw a flower and identify the parts of a flower. Children were very detailed in their drawings, even drawing the water underneath the ground that gets absorbed by the roots!

DSCN1114DSCN1115DSCN1128

We are so thankful for a daily schedule that can be altered to benefit the children’s needs. We were supposed to get rain around the time we usually went outside so instead, we headed out right after breakfast. Miss Annastecia and Miss Rebekah came out with our younger friends and brought a special book: Yoga Bunny!

A large group gathered in front of Miss Annastecia and listened to the story which is full of directions and yoga posses. What a great way to start our morning!

DSCN1061DSCN1063

The yoga session and various activities where our bodies moved energetically made us hungry! We stopped for a quick veggie break and our Wee Sprouts didn’t even last two minutes! It didn’t help that our sprouts for the day were cucumber and pepper: our two FAVORITES!

Good Afternoon!

This morning we went out earlier to get some outside time in before the rain.  While we were outside, Miss Annastecia read a book called Yoga Bunny by Brian Russo to all friends that were interested. While she was reading it, friends practiced the yoga poses on each page. Friends were then each given the opportunity to choose a yoga pose they wanted the friends to do.  Nesta chose the superhero pose.

Katherine enjoyed some outside time as well.  She engaged with the Little People and pushing her truck across the blanket.

P4080957P4080953

After the rain shortened outside time, we engaged in the rice sensory bin and a tunnel that has 4 tunnels for us to choose to crawl through.

Good Afternoon!

This morning we engaged in a painting activity.  We started the activity off by reading the book Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh.  Each friend was then given a little blue, red and yellow paint in a small bowl.  Each friend then chose 2 colors to mix together using their paint brush to see what new color they created on their papers. Our painting creations are amazing.
