Happy Monday!

In K group, we read, ‘Leonardo the Terrible Monster’. When we were finished, we went over the three main punctuation marks that we use when we write or read. I wrote out seven sentences and each friend got one sentence to complete by adding the correct punctuation mark at the end. I read them in different voices, showing excitement when an exclamation mark would be added. Friends helped one another as they came to the board to fill in the blank with the correct mark.

K.W.6.2b: Punctuation– Recognizing and naming end punctuation.

For kindergarten sign in, we started off the day by talking about punctuation marks. Children used green, blue, and purple markers to correctly identify the three punctuation marks. Children took the blue marker and circled the sentences that ended in a period, a purple marker for questions marks, and green mark for exclamation marks.

In PREK2, children sorted their pictures based on similarities. The four groups that they sorted pictures into were food, transportation, animals, and fly ability.

Good Afternoon!

Millie turned 3 years old today! We are so happy we were able to go outside this morning and enjoy the beautiful sun. One of Millie’s older peers even made her a special birthday chair in the sandbox! We hope you had a fantastic birthday, Millie!

For kindergarten sign in, children had to fill in the missing space with the correct number. We skip counted and used the colored counters to help us. One of the problems we had to complete was: 2, 4, 6, 8, _____. We talked about the pattern in each problem (add 2, add 10, etc.).

K.CA.5: Create, extend, and give an appropriate rule for simple repeating and growing patterns with numbers and shapes.

Good Afternoon.

This morning a friend thought the puff balls and wire whisk looked enticing, so he pulled it out. His friends also thought it looked enticing so they joined in the fun. This activity can enhance a child’s fine motor, sensory and hand-eye coordination skills along with color recognition.

Good Afternoon!

Today, we celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday in K group  by reading, ‘Thidwick the Big Hearted Moose’. It’s one of our favorites! After the story was done, we filled out a chart and made a tally mark for everyone’s favorite Dr. Seuss book. Friends could choose from Thidwick the Big Hearted Moose, The Foot Book, Fox On Socks, The Cat In The Hat, The Grinch, or another book. Each friend shared their favorite. We graphed the results which ultimately let us know that Thidwick was the majority favorite!

K.W.5: With support, build understanding of a topic using various sources. (Identify relevant pictures, charts, grade- appropriate texts, personal experiences, or people as sources).

DSCN7121

For kindergarten sign in, children completed the chart by filling in the number of items that were identified. Friends looked and searched for the following answers: how many doors in WF, how many windows in WF, how many exit signs, and how many chairs!

DSCN7060DSCN7063

In PREK2, children chatted about the question: “Would you eat green eggs and ham?”

As they talked about it, Miss Kim graphed their responses by creating a pie chart!

DSCN7120

Friends scattered throughout the environment after breakfast, quickly becoming engaged in various activities. Millie and Maggie snuggled up together in a chair, reading stories. James and an older peer perfected their puppet show before offering their friends a chance to watch it!

The art easel and sensory bin were used consistently right up until lunch time.
