Happy Friday! Winking smile

We want to say a sad farewell to our friend Caroline and her family. Caroline will be embracing a new baby brother or sister next week and then transitioning into a new school in the fall!

We will miss Caroline, Mom and Dad and wish them all the happiness and success in this new chapter of their lives.

Good Afternoon!

The circle table is where friends come together to do a puzzle or play a game like ‘Go Fish’—this morning it was very busy with friends moving to and from the table. Cooperative play is the last stage of play that children in early education go through. What does cooperative play look like?

Franklin and Jack decided to get out Go Fish. Franklin has been playing this game quite a lot so he asked Jack if he’d like to join him. They worked together, talking through the rules and each step of the game. They were completely involved in the game, each putting in effort towards the end.

In a multi-age classroom, with friends ranging in ages from two and a half to six years old,  a few different play stages are present. A two year old plays very differently than their six year old peer. But, one of the many benefits of a multi-age classroom is that these age groups learn from each other. We often see a five or six year old play with a younger friend, taking them under their wing.

I’ve attached a quick article that lays out the many stages of play as well as the ages that may be associated with these stages!

Good Afternoon.

We had a friend ask later in the day yesterday if we could paint. It was unfortunately too late so we painted first thing this morning. Smile

Friends were VERY excited! This activity enhances our hand-eye coordination, fine motor, sensory and color recognition skills.

Good Afternoon!

This morning was all about cooperation and conversation. There were several groups scattered throughout the environment that were working together during their play or while they were building.

A group of older peers in habitrail started building using the wooden notch blocks. They grabbed a picture of a building and tried their hardest to replicate it! Once they were done, they sat in their creation which took them to wonderous places!

Our outside experience was absolutely perfect this morning. It was cloudy with a slight breeze which is wonderful bug hunting weather. I started pulling a few weeds and I quickly got two helpers in Jack and Daniel! They even went as far to grab shovels and dig the roots out—talk about teamwork.

Good Afternoon.

PLEASE NOTE: WE HAVE EXTRA MASKS IN THE FRONT OF THE CLASSOOM IF A MASK IS NEEDED AT DROP OFF OR PICK UP.

This morning we received a shipment of food from GFS and it was of much interest to some of us to see their big truck but the really cool thing was….. THE BOXES that we were able to play in.

We made them into boats and we rowed ourselves away into the sea. Smile

We then headed outdoors and had more fun engaging with the cars and trucks. We raced them around the bench and even crashed into one another at times.

Happy Friday!

What a transitional week we had!

Two new friends joined our classroom, a few children left on vacation, and we’re missing old friends from afar.

But, it’s given children time to form new relationships and take on new roles. With our current kindergarteners soon exiting, our new group of K friends are starting to take on the prestigious leader role. This has been very evident this week especially when it comes to helping our new friends with the daily procedures that are brand new to them.

Within the next month, our classroom will go through a change as it always does in August. Somehow, we are almost halfway through July!

“Learning is messy, but it’s a beautiful mess.”

…(as evident by our feet and fingernails this week! Smile)
