Good Afternoon!

Good Afternoon!

Here’s yesterday’s blog: we’re continuing to have problems with the internet so we very much appreciate your understanding Smile.

**Just a reminder: our annual Halloween Parade will take place next Tuesday, October 31st at 4:00 pm. We hope to see you there!

The welcome activity this morning focused on creating patterns using shapes. Maxwell and Grady explored the activity by using the shapes to create an ABAB pattern. After, they each used the shapes to make real world creations such as a house and a flower!

K.CA.5: Create, extend, and give an appropriate rule for simple repeating and growing patterns with numbers and shapes.

Children couldn’t wait to get started at the art table after breakfast. It quickly filled up with children who created art using paper and markers. Letter stencils were used which lead into a conversation about letters and the sounds that they make. A five year old friend was trying to spell a word using kid spelling and his peers helped him decipher between an ‘A’ and an ‘E’ sound. Younger peers listened intently to the conversation, picking up any new information that they could!

DSCN9778DSCN9757DSCN9756

Lulu, Maddie, and Lucy made pattern bead bracelets this morning. They each chose a pipe cleaner and different colored beads to make their bracelet. All three friends chose the pattern ABCDABCD. A few of their younger peers also wanted to make a bracelet. Instead, our younger friends focused on their fine motor skills by putting on one bead at a time.

During our journal time, Lulu used her kid spelling to describe what she drew; ‘tine land’ or ‘tiny land’. Every child in our PRE-K/K large group is at a different developmental level. Our job is to meet them where they’re at while challenging them just a little Smile.

The internet was down yesterday. Sorry for the late blog.

Good Afternoon!

We would like to wish our friend Ruby a Happy 3rd birthday! Thank you for the delicious apple bundt cake with raisins. We wish you a happy day!

Today was a day for books! Some children chose to look at them alone, with a friend or by having a teacher read it to them.

DSCN9666DSCN9662DSCN9708

Since it was another rainy day and we weren’t able to go outside, Miss Rebekah decided to bring out a tunnel and the sit ‘n spin for children to crawl through and spin to add different activities for us to enjoy in the habitrail.

A friend requested play dough this morning! We added some Fall/Halloween cookie cutters that we could use with our other play dough tools.

Good Afternoon!

*As the weather is changing, please check your child’s bathroom cubbie to make sure they have appropriate clothes (pants, long sleeve shirt, etc.) and please take home any summer clothing as well! Thanks!

The welcome activity this morning was pattern cards along with the cube trays. Children explored this activity in various ways. Lulu used the tray to make her own pattern while Grady used the tray to focus on one to one correspondence by filling the tray with the correct number of cubes.

Large group took a trip this morning to the library in Mishawaka! On the drive to the library, we talked about library rules that we have to follow. A couple examples were:

“You can’t run away and you need to stay with the group.”

“Use inside voices!”

“Be nice to the books.”

In the weehicle, Lulu started talking about the types of books that we may see at the library so children started recalling what we talked about a few weeks back; fiction and nonfiction stories! The group came up with a couple examples of each genre.

Maddie had been to this library before so she was anxious to show us where to go. After taking an elevator ride downstairs to the children’s section, we interacted with a few activities before looking for books. We had a quick puppet show where children acted out different characters!

PA230959PA230963

Maddie walked over to the section where she remembered that the ‘Berenstain Bears’ series was. When friends found a book they liked, they sat down to look at the pictures before adding it to our pile!

PA230965PA230970

We talked to the librarian and she started us with a welcome activity that the library was offering; leaf rubbings! I read a non-fictional leaf story while friends created their own leaf rubbings. Several types of leaves were discussed in the story and friends pointed to the leaves that they’d seen before.

K.W.5: With support, build understanding of a topic using various sources. (Identify relevant pictures, charts, grade- appropriate texts, personal experiences, or people as sources)

PA230976PA230978

We headed to the check out area where we checked out all 30 of our stories! A friend asked how long we get to keep the books for. Lulu responded, “Well I’m sure other kids want to read these stories too!”

PA230979PA230980PA230982

As we arrived back to Wee Friends, friends were anxious to read their new books. The interest range of our books was expansive: from Finding Nemo to a football book to several Berenstain Bears stories, we’re excited to read them for large group over the next several weeks!

Franklin and friends helped Miss Rebekah make sweet pumpkin seeds this morning! Lots of measuring and mixing occurred—the end result was very yummy!

Happy Friday!

In large group, we read a story titled, ‘Tea Rex’. On the cover, there was a tea party taking place and one of the guests looked to be a big T-REX! Before we started reading, we brainstormed about what the story could be about. None of us had ever read the story before so we were anxious to see how the plot unfolded. On each page, we looked at the pictures and listened to the authors words. As a group, we talked about what could possibly be on the next page using the information that we had!

K.RL.2.4: Make predictions about what will happen in a story.

A few children helped Miss Melinda with the bumpy pumpkin escapade that took place this morning!

First, Miss Melinda carved the top so that we could take the stem on and off. A group of friends decided there should be a face on the pumpkin so we chose different features that we thought might look good on the pumpkin.

Next, friends took turns getting the pumpkin guts out. A few of us noted that, “This is too gross and disgusting”, so they handed the job over to a peer!

DSCN9505DSCN9514DSCN9518

The pumpkin was placed on the art table and children took turns using their fine motor skills to place beads on several pipe cleaners that were placed randomly on the pumpkin.

Some gorgeous and creative pumpkins were made at Wee Friends this week…talk about TEAM WORK!

Please note: Wee Friends will be closed Nov 23 and 24 for Thanksgiving break.

The gross motor area was our favorite spot today! Our friends have been playing with the big blocks non stop this week. Daniel crawled up the steps to look out the window at the pretty day, and Aggie crawled to the top of the slide and slid back down on her belly!

Good Afternoon!

Enjoy a few pictures from our day!

A four year old will be a four year old only once. Concentrate on meeting his present needs. Don’t foist future academics on him. If he’s allowed to truly play now—spontaneous play with room for running, leaping, ka-powing, crying, dancing, painting, spilling and creative problem solving—then he will be ready for academics later. When children gain social and emotional skills and confidence in the preschool years, academic learning naturally follows.”
